The All-New EVH® 5150® Iconic® Series

Description
The EVH 5150III Iconic Series 40W 1x12 combo amp delivers the legendary Eddie Van Halen tone in an affordable, gig-ready package. Evolving from the revered 5150 series that defined the sound of a generation, this iconic amp is powered by two JJ 6L6 valves and voiced with two ECC83S preamp valves to provide the firepower needed for face-melting solos and chunky rhythm work. The custom 12" Celestion speaker is tuned specifically for the amp's preamp to produce tight, articulate cleans and high-gain tones.
Two Fully Independent Channels With Extra Voicings
This compact combo amp features two independent channels with additional voicings to explore a wide range of tones. The Green channel offers an overdrive button to go from pristine cleans to increased gain. The Red channel's burn button adds fiery crunch ideal for blistering leads. Each channel has dedicated gain and volume controls for balancing levels when switching between clean and high-gain sounds.
Shape Your Tone With Powerful EQ and Added Features
Shared EQ controls for low, mid and high frequencies allow you to craft your tone. A global resonance control tweaks the amp's low end, while presence shapes the highs. Add reverb with the onboard control for extra depth and dimension. The noise gate on channel two quickly suppresses hiss for articulate riffing. A boost function on channel two adds up to 10dB of volume for solos that cut through the mix.
Versatile Performance and Recording Capabilities
This iconic combo amp delivers 40W of power with a 1/4 power switch to reduce wattage for cranked tones at lower volumes. Dual parallel speaker outs and an effects loop provide flexibility for performance and recording. The DI XLR output emulates the amp's valve tone for direct recording or running through a PA. A footswitch controls channel switching and the boost function.
Legendary Style and Build
Sporting EVH's signature style, this amp is wrapped in textured black vinyl with a black front grille featuring the iconic 5150 logo. Silver and black badges adorn the amp's brushed aluminum panel. Vintage-style chicken head knobs and a molded handle complete the legendary look. A fitted cover is sold separately to protect your investment.

SOUNDS GREAT
Sounds great for 70s and 80s plus rock. Super nice overdrive and gain channels and the clean sounds good too. I play it at 1-1/2 if in my studio by myself and the volume is nice and low. With my band volume at 3 is fine. No way i could imagine getting it to 10. I don't love the 1/4 mode because it seems to cut into tone, which happens on all amps with attenuation. I love the mute button, then you know you can play without the house hearing, however the button should be visible on the front instead of on the back and very hard to see. I also wish the standby switch was on the front. A minor design flaw is that on the rear the speaker input jack sticks out thereby not possible to lay it on its back. This is minor and I'm not knocking a star for that or anything else. At 55 lbs., according to my bathroom scale, its not light for me but not a deal breaker considering the excellent sound quality and the weight is more or less consistent with other amps of similar wattage and speaker size. Lastly, the FX loop and speaker emulation are killer and really make this amp great.

Cut out on me after less than a month of use
I LOVED this amp for the first two weeks I had it. Sounded killer, until it randomly lost all output, and nobody could fix it. Had high hopes, ended up refunding it. Dissapointed to say the least.

I bought this amp after checking out all of the other offerings in the store... I was about to purchase the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, when the salesman asked if I had played the 5150. No, I have not... so I plugged into it and within 5 minutes I knew it was the one! The clean tones are just gorgeous... Very glassy and Fender like. Great reverb. Just awesome. Then you hit the overdrive and you get this awesome classic crunch that sounds really killer! Then, you change over to channel 2, and get ready, because it will melt your face! Ultra killer metal distortion! Then you hit the boost and it blasts you through the wall! I truly think this is the most versatile, best sounding combo tube amp out there. Check it out, you're gonna love it!
Great amplifier.

Great sounding amplifier! Has all the gain u need and more. Alittle heavy but manageable. Only Con is that the noise gate is a little on the weak side. So I add one. It cleans up nicely also.

This is a great budget tube amp for hard rock and if you put a tube screamer in front of it, metal. Sure it has gain for days but a tube screamer really tightened this thing up for modern metal. Bit of a natural mid scoop but set EQ to the trusty 6-6-6 and its amazing out of the box. Keep the resonance a bit past noon and set presence to 1 or 2. The presence knob really adds fizz to this thing with the stock speaker so watch for that. The stock speaker is a bit weak but that is easily replaced. Metal heads may want to put in a Redcoat or a V30. Closed back cabinet sounds great. At 1/4 power this is still very loud. Also, don't let only two preamp tubes fool you, this thing still sounds and feels like a tube amp. The brittleness is from the speaker. upgrade the speaker or drop the presence down to zero and that will fix it. Overall GREAT amp for metal. Does the 6505 thing very well.
I would buy this product again and again and again!!

I use it as my primary recording and road amp. SUPER durable. "IF" I have to pick a downside, it's that the amp is 55lbs and I'm like 400 years old...hah...but that's the ONLY thing I can pick on about it. She's Rock Solid!!

Can I add a 2x12 EVH cabinet? If so, can I use the combo speaker at the same time using the 8ohms setting?
1) Yes 2) Yes but I don't know how this is set out of the box. I'm guessing 16 ohms. 16 + 16 = 8.submitted2 years ago

I bought this amp at the local GC and I want to get more sounds/effects than what is available from the amp out of the box. Any suggested foot pedals or effects kits that go well with the EVH 40w iconic? I'm considering returning for a Boss Katana Artist
