Comments about EVH 5150III 50W EL34 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Best amp I've ever bought! I primarily use the blue channel for Blues and Blues rock. If I need to change gears. This amp will handle my Fuzzferatu pedal extremely well. This amp has very sweet and sharp miss. It sustains clarity throughout gain and fuzz. What shines about this amp is versatility. Light knob tweaks on guitar, amp, pedals etc., then BOOM you are creating different tones and sonic textures. This amp is is sensitive to your adjustments. I have to be honest, I am NOT a Van Halen fan. I played this amp but by seeing one in-store and gave it a try. This amp really inspired how I played riffs/leads and gave them a "new" perspective. Get this amp and trek to the Riff Filled Land.?
    Genres I use it for
Blues/Blues-rock a la Howlin Wolf, Muddy waters
    ZZ Top,
Stoner Metal, a la Sleep, Down, kyuss
Metal (mix), Entombed, Planet of Zeus, Black Sanbath,

Comments about EVH 5150III 50W EL34 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I usually don't write reviews, but with this amp, I just had to. I have always been a Dual Rectifier owner, but when I tried this amp it just blew me away. The blue channel that some people criticize is actually similar to the vintage mode on my Dual Rec, but with a Marshally tone ( I actually love it). If I feel like it I use a TS 808 to tighten things up, but I find that the organic sounds it produces in the blue channel are great. Now to the Red channel, well, what can I say, it's just pure liquid distortion and extremely tight (no need for any type of overdrive here). The punch that the am sends out is just incredible. Last, but not least, the Green (clean) channel is pristine. This EL34 model is meaner sounding than its 6L6 brother. I find it much better sounding than my Dual Rec. To conclude, this amp is just awesome and versatile. I am thinking of selling my Dual Rec and purchasing the 100W version to add to my arsenal. Just because they sound that good. Trust me, it will not disappoint you. BUY IT !!

Comments about EVH 5150III 50W EL34 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

1st off let me start by saying this is my 3rd version of a 5150 . I owned a Peavey 5150 combo , Next was the LBX head. I loved the original combo but as silly as it sounds I hated the knobs being on top and it was just so heavy , clean was okay but it was dirty clean. Next I bought the LBX . Light ,small but still had plenty of volume . I run it though a 2 x 12 cab. The LBX sounded great. Blue channel really sounded fantastic and not as fizzy as my old combo. Same issue hard to get a good clean sound out of it. I realize most people dont buy a 5150 to play clean and if you don't care about cleans both these amps are great. Now the el34 50 watt. This amp to me combines those two but with a sparkly clean. The Clean channel is chimey it stays really clean too . Even if you turn the gain all the way up on the clean it doesn't distort much at all . I play a coil tapped Charvel with Duncans in it and this amp really pics up any changes in pickup selection well. Now for the blue channel , this is where this amp shines You can go from blues to metal in this channel , Even strumming chords in the channel with the gain up you don't lose string definition its what I like to call a clean distortion . Great crunch . Now the red channel . This channel is over the top gain . Even with the gain only on 2 its about as heavy as any amp out there . With the red channel you do kind of get that fizz that I thought the Peavey had but it still sounds better in my opinion anyway . Harmonics come so simple , and the sustain in this channel is just crazy. So this being my third 5150 I have to say this amp provides the best of the two I had before it plus a fantastic clean channel . To me the clean falls between a Marshall and a Mesa. Not as bright as a Marshall and not as dark as a Mesa. I loved the LBX but kind of missed the wallop of the old Peavey had that depth and bass . This amp can be played at bedroom volumes no problem at all. One Note an MXR 10 band EQ helps these amps a ton too.

This is simply an incredible amp! I waited for a few years to finally pull the trigger on a tube amp, several months of research and trying amps in stores etc.....and this was by far the best amp especially at this price! I gig live, jam, rehearsals and this amp does it all. I can run my 2X12 or my 4X12 and the flexibility of tome and gain is fantastic!

Great amp head. Get all the sounds you want. Sounds amazing with a Marshall 1960 4x12. Effects loop works terrific...modulation and reverb work awesome in effects loop. Clean channel is Pink Floyd. Channel 2 is your AC/DC channel and Channel 3 is over the top gain for 80's metal and and thrash. Best amp Ive owned.
Traded in my Marshall JCM2000 50W DSL. Very happy with trade and purchase.

Comments about EVH 5150III 50W EL34 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

So after tons of research I came across this little power house I've always liked the 6505 but as everyone knows the clean isn't perfect well EVH fixed that problem for ed's 5150 model of heads. I have only had it for a day now and no buyers remorse at all this thing has tons of tone. Clean is crystal clear and punchy the crunch has tons of potential for blues to heavy rock and the lead channel is everything a metal guy could want (that's me) . plus all the flexibility for effects with the midi input. Its only 50w but I haven't had it pass 9 o'clock on the volume yet and it shook the foundation. Great amp for this price range and all the tone you've ever wanting. Only thing that could make it better for me is if it had a bias switch for switching from el34 to 6l6 for more tone options.

Had the 6l6 version of this for awhile and decided to upgrade. The independent gain and volumes for channels 1 and 2 are great and should be put on the 6l6 version. The only issue I had was after a couple weeks I had a bad set of power tubes which caused the amp to blow fuses. Ordered a new set of matched JJ el34's and we're back up and running.

Comments about EVH 5150III 50W EL34 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Everybody knows that EVH amps are known for their high gain and soaring leads. I knew what I was in for when I purchased it. What surprised me was how great it made a cheap guitar sound on the clean channel. The first guitar I played on it was a beaten and bruised Ibanez RG250DX with a broken neck that I repaired myself with Elmer's Glue (which works btw). It made that guitar shine, ready for a recording session. I could have chimed away all night on the clean channel, but we all know that we want to crank this thing. Channel 2 (Blue) is a crisp, clean drive that can be pushed well beyond my JCM900. No noise, and articulate attack. Channel 3 (Red) is just melt your face Madness. There is a bit of high gain hum if you idle on the channel, but once you start playing it makes you sound better than you are. At least in my case. You can hear every note, every hammer-on and pull-off, and every harmonic. With this much power, the guitar practically plays itself. Try it and you'll understand. This amp is so well made that I'm perfectly happy playing it with everything dialed in at Noon. I'm playing out of a 1x15 and it sounds heavenly. Loud enough for a partial outdoor venue at 30% volume.
