Not bad!

Truth be told, I bought it because it was on sale for a VERY good price. I wanted a decent mic that I could just keep in my gear bag for jams, etc. and not worry about it too much. Turns out, this mic does the trick quite nicely. Sounds pretty good so, I bought a second one to keep and use at our rehearsal space.

I occasionally host open mic and karaoke along with other events and needed a couple of cheap microphones that I wouldn't worry about strangers using. I picked up an EV cobalt co9 and this digital reference DRV200. I have to say this microphone is outstanding for a cheap mic! I observed plenty of people using both microphones and this one had little to no handling noise. I do know what I'm doing on a mixing board, so I did make proper adjustments. However this mic handled an opera singer, a guy screaming metal music and even female vocals, flawlessly. My suggestion/settings when using this microphone are using a foam pop filter over the head, press the high pass filter button on your mixing board, setting the gain at 12:00, if you have a compressor setting bring up the compressor as needed, roughly 9:00 to 12:00, adjust EQ, reverb and volume as needed per vocalist. Main output volume on board 3:00.

  • Works good for band practice and back up mic.

Low gain. Not as "hot" as I had Thin box. hoped. On/off switch would have been nice.

  • Good mic, clip too cheap

Pretty decent mic for the money. It is clear and sensitive enough for any loud singer or instrument. But the clip that comes with it is not good. The tolerances of the clip's threads is poor. They screwed onto a mic stand, but not securely. They only threaded on about 1/4 of the way down the stand's threads and bound there. They are supposed to screw all the way down for a secure fitting. Mics get knocked around and this makes it a problem.

I bought this for my home recording studio, though I already own a condenser. But we wanted to mix it up considering some dynamics do a decent job. This one worked for a few weeks. Allowed us to record several demo cuts. But then we experienced mild noise interference, 'pop's and, cracks, which was not great.

  • I would buy this product again.

This mic can be used on an acoustic piano but a condenser mic might be a better choice.
