Overview

The DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard is for electric guitars with standard 11-hole pickguards. It's got an Area '58 pickup in the neck, Area '67 in the middle position, and an Area '61 at the bridge.

Area '58

The Area '58 offers excellent treble response and dynamics with little magnetic pull and virtually no hum.

Area '67

In the middle position, the Area '67 pushes sounds like the single-coil pickups of the late '60s-bright and very clean. The Area '67 totally eliminates hum and offers reduced magnet pull for improved sustain and clarity.

Area '61

Finally, the Area '61 in the bridge position brings a steely, yet woody sound to the table. As with the other two pickups, the Area '61 eliminates hum and features reduced magnet pull. These 3 guitar pickups combine to create unique, undeniably vintage tone.

Pretty good pickups...

By Jason

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

I bought this unit to replace the pickups in my Mexican Strat, which were noisy and too full of midrange. I could tell a big difference immediately when I began playing with these pickups. Great vintage tone and vibe, and while they're a lot cleaner than my stock pickups I feel that there's still a bit too much hum when not playing, and the output isn't as hot as I'd like. But, the Strat's in-between tone character really shines in the 2nd and 4th switch positions. A nice step up.

Just Awesome!

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

I am a "tone freak" and very picky about sound quality. I have tried several pick up sets and over 25 guitar pedals looking for the perfect Strat sound. These Area pickups are just awesome! Very "Stratty" sounding with great clarity and no hum. All 5 positions are very usable and my cleans and overdrives have never sounded better. These replaced an expensive set of boutique pickups and they are much better in every way. I was a little concerned about installing them myself but the on line video is spot on. Solder-less and a piece of cake to install even for a novice like me. The white pickguard changes the look of my guitar in a good way. Absolutely love it! I have spent stupid money on guitar upgrades, amps, pedals, etc. but this was the best decision I've ever made.

Once I got the Wiring Straight - Great

By Carl Czaga

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

Came with no instructions, but DiMarzio has video installation guide online. Unfortunately, the ground terminal on mine was mis-marked (wondered why the black wire was on that side). So I reversed it & it worked great. Easy, but test before reinstalling! Pick-ups are quiet & have great tone. Nice upgrade to my strat.

These PUPs Sing! x2

By Patrick Schaeffer

from Southern Oregon

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

This is my second DiMarzio Area prewired pickguard purchase. My initial purchase was with MF: see review on 4/7/12. As a Stratocaster tone snob my closet is full of so many ex-Strat pickups that didn't make the grade it's embarrassing. However, these DiMarzios are GREAT! I installed them in a brand new black American Deluxe Stratocaster...ripped out the stock pick-ups they're so lifeless... and installed a black DiMarzio Area prewired pickguard. First, they look great. Second, installation was so easy it's ridiculous. Finally, these sound phenomenal! They offer great chime, clarity, quack and all the other descriptors you hear associated with a Strat, but they're noiseless. They also sound great in hi-gain situations. You gotta try these! Can't say enough good about 'em.

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

Added some great tone to my strat. The combo of these three pickups gives me the sound flexibility I need to play a variety of music...soft rock, hard rock, country, blues.
Install was simple.

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

Really, through no fault of DiMarzio I couldn't get it to work properly on a white Squire Strat I had due to the cramped quarters in the cavity of the guitar. Some part of the electronics were touching the inside of the shield-painted cavity
and was shorting out the neck pickup when I tried to screw the pick-guard flat against the body. After trying to figure out the problem and trying to remedy it I tried the unit on another Squire Strat I own (tobacco burst finish) it fit right in with no problems and sounds awesome. Equally satisfying of the tone, the lack of single-coil hum is gone so, I`m super pleased with it all. Most likely I will also get the upgrade for a Telly I have.

3 Stars ONLY because of poor fitting pickguard

    By Edwin

Comments about DiMarzio Area Model Prewired Pickguard:

The Area 58,67 and 61 pickups are a great combination. For years I've looked for single coils that sound like single coils without the hum, and always found the performance either lacking in clean or overdriven tones compared to real single coils. Something was always slightly off.

These pickups are the best I've tried in my years of searching. I'm very pleased with the tone. The one disappointment was how poorly the screw holes match an American Standard body. The body I used fit perfectly with the original Fender pickguard, and also with a WD pickguard I custom ordered several years ago. This pickguard left several screws in a "cockeyed" position as they didn't line up. I've since read reviews of a major online retailer, stating the same issue.

This is not a hard thing to get right. This isn't milling precision rocket engine parts to thousands of an inch tolerance.

I would recommend these pickups, but not the prewired pickguard. Buy them separate and retro fit into an existing pickguard, or search online as several other companies sell prewired pickguards for the same price, with the same pickups, and what appears to be a different, non Dimarzio sourced pickguard.
