I finally decided to go with the brass. The biggest benefit: They won't break as easily. As far as tonality is concerned, I think it might vary from guitar to guitar. On my acoustic, the pins definitely increased the bass and somewhat alleviated a dead fret problem (F on the 5th string - standard tuning.) On the other hand, the pins robbed some of the highs and quieted the guitar down just a bit. On the whole, I am satisfied with these subtle changes in tone. I'm going to switch from Ivory to brass depending upon the situation. (I mostly use the guitar for recording.)

I can hear a change in sound with these pins, unfortunately, they don't stay as seated as my tusq or bone pins. In my seagull, they seem much smaller than the bridge pin hole - I *loathe* restringing with these pins in. In the end, these lasted about 2 weeks and are back in the drawer. Save yourself the effort and look around online for some nice bone pins.

Sustain

By CactusClef

from Houston, Texas

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

I've changed out the bridge pins on several guitars that I own to the solid brass because of the better sustain that they offer. They work without a hitch. I also like the fact that the large head with the serrated side grip makes it easier to remove the pin and can be done in most instances with out a bridge pin tool. It's also pretty cool that the flat head reflects lighting for an occasional glimmer that's picked up by the audience.

Pretty good

By Jeff

from Marine City, Michigan

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

I put these in my Mitchell to add sustain and I figured they'd look better then my plastic pins. The only problem I had with these is they didn't fit snuggly into the bridge. They weren't big enough to hold the string in, so when I tuned the string the pins would fly out. Right now they're kinda crooked but they work and sound great.

A Terrific Investment

By J.Hetrick

from Socorro, New Mexico

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

I purchased these when I saw that my new Ibanez came with plastic bridge pins. The D'Andrea pins are smaller than the pins that came with my instrument (AEG20E), but if they are held in place while tightening the strings, they stay in just fine afterwards. As for aesthetics, there really isn't any competition with the abalone/brass combination; it really compliments the sunburst design. Being a new player, I feel a little unqualified to opine on the tone quality, but I think it says something for the pins that even I can hear a distinct improvement in the sound. These pins are absolutely worth their price tag.

Classic Look

By Kevin Buck

from Granbury, TX

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

The D'Andrea brass bridge pins are definiately worth the few dollars you pay for them. I haven't noticed any difference in the sound or tone from my acoustic but these brass pins with the mother of pearl heads really dress my Martin up.

More sustain, nice alternative to ebony pins

By Michael Lyman

from Spring City, TN

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

I just put them on my Taylor 314CE, it improved the sustain dramatically, the sound is not as bright but definitely sounds good. When installing keep a finger on the pin while tightening the strings or you may have a launch. I wasn't holding it down when I tightened up my "D" string and the pin flew about 6 ft into the air. I purchased the gold abalone and they look kind of unfinished close up but fine at a distance. Worth a try if you want to improve the sustain.

I bought these for a Yamaha acoustic they worked better than I thought they would. It got rid of a small buzz I couldn't find and made the guitar sound better. I can lay into it harder now to.

I bought these yo replace some cheap plastic ones on a cheap guitar. They both improved the look and sound of it. Considering putting them on all my acoustics.

        The pins are very photogenic

        By Regis Grote

        from Kanawha County, WV

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

I purchased the abalone pins. The brass around the inlay isn't as crisp as I expected but a person would have to be examining the pins up close to notice. An audience would never notice. The other folks were right about the pins jumping out when strings are replaced. Changing the string on a 12-string acoustic is difficult enough without this extra challenge. Until I find sweeter looking pins though, these are more than fine.

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

The pins that came with my Fender FA-100 were all cracked. I bought these to replace them, thought brass pins would be more durable, so got these instead of plastic ones. They cost a little more, are worth the extra cost.

This Brass Bridge-pin set is excellent and should of received a 5-star rating if the Mother-of-Pearl was at least polished; it's function is spot on.

        Nice quality, large heads

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

Buy these in store if possible. I had these shipped - two sets - and in shipment the pins came loose from their place holders. They banged around against each other, and the abalone, which is quite thin, got scarred up pretty badly. Some people may find the heads of the pins are larger than they may like.

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

I bought these to put on my cedar top Seagull. As others have said, the initial fit is a little loose as they are a smaller diameter and shorter than the original pins. I also managed to launch one during initial tuning up so keep a finger on them when installing. In the Seagull they severely muted the tone and volume of the guitar, so much that I thought my strings suddenly went dead. The biggest impact was on the G string and in case your curious I use Martin Retro's.

So after a couple of days I swapped them out to a inexpensive laminated spruce top I have. In the spruce to they did slightly mute the overly-bright tones it had, which helped to balance out the bass vs treble tones of the guitar. I did notice increased sustain, so overall a nice improvement on this guitar. I use Martin Retro's on this guitar also for reference.

In summary, these pins look really nice. I would hesitate using them in a cedar top but suggest giving them a try if you have a guitar that is overly bright.

Not only do these pins improve the look of your guitar and they definitely will the bright sound that they produce is awesome. I have put the abalone on my Ibanez that has abalone all over it and have put the mother of pearl on all the rest. If u want to improve the sound while improving the look as well as increasing the value of your guitars you need these pins!
