NEUMMAN TLM 49 CONDENSER STUDIO MIC

Neumann

collapse expand iconDescription

The Neumann TLM 49 condenser microphone is a professional-grade studio mic optimized for vocal and instrument recording. Inspired by Neumann's iconic vintage M49 and M50 mics, the TLM 49 combines a retro design with innovative transformerless technology for pristine audio quality, high-gain and low self-noise. Its large-diaphragm capsule and cardioid polar pattern are tailored to capture the warmth and detail of any sound source with stunning realism.

Pristine Audio Quality for Any Studio Application

Whether recording intimate vocals, acoustic instruments, drums or amps, the TLM 49 delivers audio with a level of depth and clarity that brings out the full character of any sound. Its wide, flat-frequency response captures the nuances in a performance while a gentle high-frequency boost adds detail and presence. With a sensitivity of 12mV/Pa, this mic handles high sound-pressure levels with ease and a dynamic range of 114dB ensures crystal-clear audio even at high-gain settings.

Versatile Polar Pattern for Flexibility

The TLM 49's cardioid polar pattern provides focused sensitivity in front of the mic with excellent off-axis rejection. Its tendency toward supercardioid at higher frequencies helps capture subtle details while minimizing bleed from nearby sources. This versatile yet directional pattern makes the TLM 49 an ideal choice for any close-mic application in a studio environment.

Built to Last With Vintage-Inspired Style

Housed in a durable nickel-plated brass casing, the TLM 49 combines a rugged build with an elegant retro design inspired by Neumann's most coveted vintage mics. Its elastically mounted internal components provide effective isolation from mechanical noise and vibration. A swivel mount allows flexible positioning and the included shockmount and pop filter provide additional protection and versatility. With premium components and solid construction, the TLM 49 delivers professional performance and reliability for years to come.

  • The Neumann TLM 49 is a robust studio microphone with a cardioid polar pattern that specializes in preserving the timbre, texture and warmth of voice. It is encased in an inner mount and supported with an elastic suspension. Its design and sound quality are inspired by the M 49 and M 50 microphones, (commonly used in the ‘50s). The Neumann TLM 49 kept its original matted nickel finish and cool retro vibe but has newer features to keep up with today’s fast-paced vocal recording trends.

    Uniquely Crafted Capsule

While designing the Neumann TLM 49, developers performed several tests to manage and maintain the incoming voice audio, whether the performance was simply dialogue, flowing melodies, or unique sonic effects. The mic is designed for vocals but can also record other instruments and produce a truly professional sound. The sizeable diaphragm capsule of the TLM 49 was carefully crafted to a diameter of 34 mm to better enhance the direction of high-frequency vocal blasts. The microphone has a flashy red Neumann emblem to mark the front of the mic and its designated workspace.

    Acoustic and Electric Features

The TLM 49 harnesses the well-known K 47 capsule, (also found within the M 49 and the U 47 models). The capsule possesses a lineal frequency reaction to the upper mid-range and beyond 2kHz, an automatic boost kicks into gear all the way to 3dB. A robust microphone head grille securely encases the capsule, protecting the ample space for the ultimate natural acoustic sound. “TLM” represents a transformerless microphone, and the mechanics of the transformer are simply swapped-out for an electronic circuit. Most transformers ensure common mode rejection, preventing any RF interference to maintain the reliability of the audio signal. Sound indicators that interfere with the modulation flow are automatically subdued. TLM 49 functions at decibel rates up to 114dB (minus the distortion) and extends the range to 102dB (A-weighted).

    Diligent Tweaks

To prevent unwanted auditory squeaks and murmurs from the microphone structure, an elastic harness suspends the capsule using a rubber shockmount. The TLM 49 can also cut uber low frequency signals and is responsive to sound indicators like wind or buzzing. An elastic suspension helps the mic deliver a clean signal. At the microphone’s closest range, a pop screen PS 15 or PS 20 (sold separately) can be applied on its front side to protect against occlusive sounds. This ensures a low level of structure noises the ample access to high gain.
