I bought this because I wanted an acoustic with bright sounds, but still have some sustain. Also, I wanted an acoustic that is easy to play, light weight, comfortable, and beautiful. This guitar does that for me. I had played this at my GC before ordering online, because I like to have my guitars new, and not touched by countless others who mess around at the store. I use it to record with my Reason 9 software by Propellerhead, and the guitar sounds better than some of the samples on Reason, and that is impressive! I have also been told that it's sound matches it's beauty, so that just reaffirms my comparison with its sounding better than some other professional recordings on Reason 9. The construction of this guitar is above average from what I can tell at this price. Martins make some of their guitars with the same X bracing, but this guitar has a gloss finish, whereas low end Martans are laminated, and that is huge if you know anything about acoustic instruments in general. Lamenated equals a choking of the sound, and that's not a good thing. Lamenated instraments are usually for beginners who bang up their guitars on accident a lot due to being young, inexperienced, or just clumsy. Which reminds me. If you get this guitar then I recommend a good case that fits this guitar perfect. It's the Musician's Gear Deluxe Gypsy Jazz Hardshell Guitar Case Black. I own this case and I'm glad I do. One, to protect my beautiful guitar when I go teach lessons, and to keep it humidified with my Music Nomad The Humitar - Acoustic Guitar Humidifier.

When I first bought this I had had my other acoustic Ibanez stolen so I was looking to this as my replacement. Many employees told me to grab this one as a fingerpicking guitar because of the small neck and comfortable body. At first for a few months it sounded great but the annoying flaws began to surface. My two biggest gripes are:

1.) This thing is WAY too quiet
If you plan on taking this to parties, or any place without an amp you will have trouble being heard. Anytime I would take this to a party, a hangout, or a public event without an amplifier the situation would quickly become hopeless. You will either need to sacrifice your "touch and feel" for volume or play ridiculously quiet. The slim body struggles to produce enough sound for a room of more than 3 or 4 people. This is especially a problem for fingerstyle players like myself, so unless you will be strumming basic open chords with a pick the entire time as loud as you possibly can, expect to hear a lot of comments asking you to play louder.

2.) The skinny neck
If you have small fingers, or are skilled enough to get around having thick fingers ignore this point. But for me as I've had this guitar for maybe 3 or 4 years now my fingers and hand have become a lot bigger since I've bought this making playing on the neck very difficult. I know that this shouldn't be a good excuse but if you can afford to avoid a narrow neck where the strings are so painfully close together then why not? I can see how a small neck would benefit maybe a solo playstyle but for personal preference it was just a nuisance.

Overall this guitar makes a good portable taker, with a handy onboard tuner and a beautiful color to show off. But ultimately it's narrow body and neck comes back to bite you especially to fingerstyle players like myself. Either way, I will be holding on to mine as I've made so much memories with it!

Love this guitar!

Comments about Mitchell MX420 Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The MX420 is an incredibly beautiful guitar and it just feels right in your hands. The body is not as deep as most grand auditoriums, so it feels great holding it, and it is extremely portable. The sound is deep, bright, and has a wonderful twang in every note. The neck is slightly more narrow than most acoustics, and is much more playable than your standard size acoustic. Let's get back to the beauty of this guitar, it is a piece of eye candy. The 'blackburst' finish is simply gorgeous! I highly recommend this guitar.

Comments about Mitchell MX420 Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is our 5th guitar in the family. All from Guitar Center. We have Classical acoustic nylon, electric Bass, electric guitar, 2 acoustic steel string. My daughter loves this Mitchell MX420 Midnight Black finish guitar. It's perfect for her size, not too big not too small. Sounds great especially with acoustic amp. Everyone who sees it make their head turns for a second look because of the beautiful color. The strings are far from the neck so you need to have it adjusted immediately at Guitar Center for free. After the adjustment it plays so easy.

This was purchased for me as a Christmas gift 2 years ago and it is still going strong. I travel and play about 35-40 shows a year in clubs, festivals, fairs, and concert venues, and it works well for all of the above. I also use it in the studio and use the pickups plus an ambient mic and it sounds wonderful. Comfortable to play and I look forward to adding other Mitchell guitars to my collection and arsenal.

Comments about Mitchell MX420 Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I don't normally buy a guitar I can't touch first but reviews were great so I took a chance. Very glad I did. This thing is amazing! When I got it the action was pretty decent, but I loosened the truss rod to lower it. Then I did it again, even lower. One more time and it was as far as it could go. The strings were so low they were almost touching the frets, but not one hint of a buzz anywhere! Now this acoustic plays like my American Telecaster! Best action I've ever seen on an acoustic guitar. Love the smaller size too, very comfortable for gigging all night.

It's really bar for me to put down. Along with sounding and feeling great, the finish is also gorgeous. I have a friend who's spent $700+ on an acoustic and he even likes mine more.

This is a great beginner to novice guitar for sure. It feels good, stays in tune and has a rich sound that equals higher end equipment. Great buy for the money.

I've had this for about a year and a half now and am still blown away every time I pull it out and play it. I just don't make snap decisions when I am making a guitar purchase. I had gone back to Guitar Center several times over over a few weeks testing different brands and even though this and it's counter part the MX400 were a beautiful guitars, sounded amazing and played very well. I didn't want to like them because they were Mitchells. The day I finally decided to buy this one, I took them both into the high end guitar room and matched them up to a Martin and a Gibson Humming bird. I kid you not, both these Mitchells matched up very well to the higher end guitars. the playability of these guitars warents a much higher price. I was going to buy both of them because you can't beat the price but decided to take just this one home one because I liked the dark color but secondly to test it out for awhile, then give my review. I'm probably going to get the other one now.

The downfall to thatvis that its not as loud but thats ok, you can plug it into an acoustic guitar amp. The tuner it has on it isnt very good but you can always get a better one separate. It stays in tune more than often. Has a very nice sound to it.

It is a slimmer body guitar compared to pretty much most other acoustic guitars so it isnt as loud but it can be plugged in to an acoustic electric guitar amp. The tuners, they are alright.

Comments about Mitchell MX420 Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First off ,I was talked into this guitar after the one I originally wanted wasnt there. I wish I would've just left as if he would've been honest I wouldn't of purchased this one, but that's on me. Now the fact that it came with 2 broke strings is on GC. I haven't taken it back as of yet because of the ill experience I had buying it.
