Description
The MS450 Modern also includes high-output, dual-humbucking paraffin-dipped Alnico V pickups that reduce microphonics and unwanted feedback. The MS450 Modern comes equipped with premium D'Addario EXL120 .009–.42 strings.
The MS450 Series is available in eight gorgeous finishes: Sunset Burst (SSB), Trans Black (BK), Aqua Burst (AB), Forest Green (FG), Honeyburst (HB), Trans Purple (TR) and Gold Metallic (GM).

Great guitar, with a few small issues. Price is outstanding.
I love Les Paul type guitars. My main workhorse is a Dean Evo Noir. I found a used Mitchell TD400 (Strat type) which I liked so much I jumped on the MS450 when it went on sale. The finish is great, probably a photo finish, very beautiful red. There was a tiny nick on the head, but nothing too bothersome. The input jack sits at an unusual angle which is good when wearing a strap as the cord goes under the strap with no tension. It has a carved top but not a deep carve, the body is thinner than a traditional LP, hence lighter. The guitar has 2 volume, 1 tone control. The pickup selector switch when in the middle position only plays the bridge pickup. So the advertisement is wrong, as it refers to a "blend" of tone. You can't "blend" if you can't play both pickups at the same time. I don't really see why there is a 3 way switch there. I thought the guitar had a flaw but I took it to the local GC, and the tech got a new one out and it had the same "feature". A 2 way switch would serve the same purpose. It makes no sense to me. Aside from that weird design (flaw/feature?), it is a very playable guitar, and the pickups sound especially good. They say it is set up, but I had to spend some time lowering the action on it. No big deal. It has a Tusq nut and locking tuners. They are not the highest quality but they are okay. The guitar stays in tune fairly well. It has to be tuned again a day later. And usually loses tuning at least once while practicing for an hour or more, but it is not too bad. Intonation was good out of the box. What I like the best about it is the thinner, very comfortable body. No sharp frets, finish is very well done. Jumbo frets which I like. I'm very glad I purchased it. I have more expensive guitars but this is the type I will use outside the house. I'd get another one if it got stolen and at this price, it would not be a devastating loss.

Ah Guitar Center
I am always researching guitars and this is one that I have wanted to try out for awhile. They went on sale and I bought one. It got here fast, GC is always around 3-4 days shipping. They never sent a tracking # tho, I had to email them. On unboxing day I was sad to see a generic guitar box- no Mitchell labels. No manual or "case candy" whatsoever. Not even a wrench. Upon a once over I found a big ding in the 2nd fret over the G string, so that playing something like the bend in "Back in Black" was not possible. The guitar was not in new condition which was not cool because I purchased a new guitar. The guitar itself would be pretty nice if it were brand new. It came setup nicely. The fretboard is comfortable and fast. Features like push pull coil splitting and locking tuners don't usually come standard in this price range. The pickups were good enough for a wide range of styles. The toggle switch looks unfinished lacking the poker chip most Les Paul style guitars. The finish on the sunburst model is just ok, not the prettiest I've seen but not ugly either. This will be the 3rd time I've posted a review for this particular guitar. Hopefully it goes through this time though I'm losing faith in Guitar Center all the time.

I purchased mine almost 2 years ago, and I like it. Recently one of the tuners failed. It's a minor repair, but after contacting service, they asked for a video, and I provided one. I have not received another response since.

I was primarily looking to get an electric guitar that was light weight with a comfortable fit for me as I am a petite guitar instructor and musician with arthritis in my hands/fingers. Wow! I truly lucked out with this gem! The features include locking tuners, humbucking pickups that can produce single coil sounds, jumbo frets, and a slim tapered neck to name a few. But what impressed me the most was its comfort and playability in my hands! It is not as heavy as other electric guitars I have played, and it feels like it was custom made for me. It appeared to have been set up already straight out of the box! The neck fits my hands perfectly and the action is perfectly set. I have been a guitar player for 50 years and am so grateful I found this guitar with not only great sound and tones but one that plays so easily for my arthritic hands. The only issue I had with this guitar is that the nuts had fallen off the toggle switch. Since then I regularly check to make sure they haven't loosened or fallen off. #sweepstakes

This appears to be a floor model, though this was indicated nowhere on the product page. It was shipped in a Gibson box. The guitar was in good condition - just a few small dings. The problem was the electronics. The pots were scratchy and one pickup know wasn't working properly. Returned.

i've been a guitar player for a little over 10 years, and always preferred S type guitars i was in a guitar center one day in Austin texas, just browsing and i saw this, and despite not being one for les pauls, i picked it up and gave it a try i plugged it into a Line 6 catalyst because it was what was the closest to me, and threw the pickup into the middle position and split the neck pickup and was extremely delighted to hear the clean sounds i got i immediately bought it, and took it home and threw some distortion on it and explored the sounds that i was able to get from this guitar despite not looking like it, this guitar is great even for disgusting amounts of distortion it sounds like no other guitar i have and rivals my fender strat for clean tones it sounds just as good if not better than some of my ibanez guitars which some i paid 3-4 times the price for. seriously, for the price and quality and sound of this guitar, it is an absolute steal it rarely ever goes out of tune, and is by far the most versatile guitar i have in my arsenal if you have the $200-400 and are looking for a decent all rounder, definitely get this guitar. you will not be disappointed
It is worth the price(and more)

This is my second MS450, I also have a red one. This guitar is inexpensive, but is loaded with things found on much more expensive guitars. I own a Gibson Les Paul, Fender Stratocaster, and a Deangelico Bedford. Although the Mitchells are less expensive, they are easy, fast and FUN to play. Most cases they are my first "go to" guitar when I just want to kick back and practice.
Yes i would buy again

It's around 7 lbs. I believe the 9.1 lbs is the packaged weight.submitted4 years ago
