Mitchell MD300S contrasted against the ME1 Element series

By Bruce

Comments about Mitchell Element Series ME1 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

First of all, the ME1 is NOT a top of the line model for Mitchell. Both the ME1 and the MD300S feature a solid spruce top. But the MD300S goes beyond with INDIAN ROSEWOOD sides and back, NOT wimpy, cheaper Sapele. You might visually mistake the striped Sapele grain for Rosewood, but when it comes to tone there is NO comparison. I have played both, and the one I chose, for the Martin-like tone, was the MD300S. In addition, the MD300S also features gold-plated hardware, for a truly top-end presentation. GC sells the MD300S at a resonable price To the ear of this pro who's been playing acoustic guitars for nearly 50 years, the difference in tone more than justifies the difference in price.

Comments about Mitchell Element Series ME1 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Great guitar. Rings like a Martin I am sold on Mitchell. I bought eight of them on sale. Great investment. One arrived with a broken neck and Guitar Center is rectifying the situation.

Comments about Mitchell Element Series ME1 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I LOVE this guitar.. You wont find a better guitar for the price. Great tone, great action. great sustain. I played this guitar in the store and compared to more expensive brands.. I could not believe the tone from this guitar.. So full and rich. Its a guitar that I love to pick up, and IMO Guitars like these make learning (we're all learning) easier.. A guitar is supposed to be engaging not a chore.. This is like a friend who you just hit off with,, or a BF/GF where the sparks just fly.. Makes playing fun and addictive!!! Bravo Mitchell!

Comments about Mitchell Element Series ME1 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

No problems so far. It has a "natural" finish (as opposed to a glossy finish). First one I've had like that. I will have to get used it. It notes out correctly up the neck and seems to have good tonal qualities and a good overall sound. I would rate it higher, but I am still getting used to it.

I got this guitar on sale for $99 for taking on trips and campouts instead of my custom made guitar. I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent tone and action on this guitar. Great sounding acoustic guitar for the money!

Comments about Mitchell Element Series ME1 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

For the price, this guitar can not be beat. I gave myself a 400 dollar budget to get a new acoustic guitar to use at home, and maybe the occasional bluegrass jam. This is the one I landed on, and I am very happy with it. The matte finish feels great, and gives it that nice punchy "Martin" sound. This guitar makes me want to pick it up and play it, which wouldn't be expected from an instrument in this price range. If you are looking into learning to play, or you just want a spare acoustic guitar, the Mitchell ME1 would be a great choice.

Comments about Mitchell Element Series ME1 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This all-wood guitar (no laminated spruce top - and maple binding on body and neck ) was a very pleasant surprise. It is all wood, has scalloped bracing, and a Nubone nut and saddle (not plastic). Set up was great out of the box. The nut was well carved; neck relief and truss rod were set great; and the string action generally, and at the nut, was very good - better than many more expensive guitars. My only criticism is that the bass response is less than on more expensive dreadnaughts. So, strummers will want more bass response. But if you play fingerstyle - without using finger picks or your fingernails - the enhanced mids and highs are welcome and provide better sound articulation. You can also change the strings to offset the accentuated mid and high tones of this guitar. The Guitar stays in tune even though the tuners are not the best quality. On the fingerboard there were a couple of high frets that needed to be taken down, re-crowned and polished, but after that the neck is precise and world class. I've been playing more than 50 years. and it plays as good as any Martin or Taylor. The sound, however, is not as deep and rich. Nonetheless, what a great deal - all wood and high quality for the money.
