Comments about Meinl Generation X Johnny Rabb Safari Crash Effects Cymbal:
First off, the 16" cymbal has a brighter tone than its brother- the 18". I have this 16" and the 18". Out of 24 cymbals that I have, I can tell you that these are my favorite "special effects" cymbals. The reason is because the type of music I am into is metal (real heavy) and with so many loud cymbals and instruments happening, these give a quick accent when I don't want all of the "crash" from a regular cymbal.....the best part is that I can hit them as hard as I want, and the volume does not overtake the other cymbals on my set. It actually fits rite in to the other cymbals "ringing", and finishes before the sustain of the other cymbals, allowing the effect to simply do its job. I always "crack" the 18" first, and then the 16". These two combined really are a nice combination. My comparison of the sound would be that of a hi-hat slightly closed, being hit with the stick, but you can tell the sound is not from a hi-hat. I think for the price, these are great effect cymbals to go along with the rest of the set of cymbals you are using. If you go into the store to hear them, you probably won't be to impressed, but when you "crack" them with your set, it is a whole different story. I would say that they are definitely meant for a faster type of music...i.e. .....death,thrash,.....and the origination.....techno-house. Since this cymbal does its job, I'll give it a 5. The only con that I have........The name on the cymbal.....uh.....I don't think most drummers want another drummers "name" on their cymbal. For this reason, I knock the rating down to a four.
