Overview

Martin’s Road Series line of guitars features a blend of the legendary Martin tone with solid-wood construction and lightning-fast playability. The Martin Custom GPRS1 Grand Performance acoustic-electric guitar was designed for the player that is searching for incredible tone and playability at an affordable price.

Its all solid-wood construction produces a tone that will rival some of the most expensive guitars made today. The body is made of sapele, a cousin of mahogany, known for its balanced tone and striking appearance. The GPRS1’s solid-wood construction has plenty of tone and sustain that will improve as the guitar begins to age. Unlike laminate or layered woods that are stiff and lack bottom end and resonance, this solid-wood instrument has a punchy bottom end and lots of sustain.

Martin’s Grand Performance body is a little deeper than your typical 000 or OM guitar. Its sleek design of added depth and a tight waist yields a loud, punchy tone that is balanced across the entire musical spectrum. The combination of body and sapele tonewood creates a sound that is extremely expressive and dynamic. It will have all the power of a dreadnought, blended with all the clarity and brilliance of a smaller, auditorium-sized guitar.

Playability is a must for many of today’s musical styles, and Martin has you covered. The GPRS1 has one of the most comfortable necks on the market. The slimmer profile and taper lets you glide across the neck with ease. You will be able to make a smooth transition from your electric guitar to this acoustic. And as an added bonus, the custom GPRS1 has a precision setup by one of Martin’s Plek machines. As one of the last steps in final setup process, Martin uses the Plek machine to give you the ultimate guitar setup. If you were to have a technician Plek one of your guitars, it would cost you anywhere from $250-$400. Martin includes this bonus on every Road Series guitar for free. If you’re a fingerstyle player, professional, novice, or singer songwriter, you are going to love the way this guitar sounds and plays.

The Martin Custom GPRS1 comes complete with Fishman Sonitone electronics. This compact, easy-to-use electronics package lets you plug in and play. There’s no need for you to spend hours getting a great guitar sound. Just plug in, and you’re ready to go. For easy access, the volume and tone controls are positioned directly in the soundhole of the guitar. This gives you the ability to make changes to your tone in real time.

The Martin Custom GPRS1 Grand Performance Acoustic Electric guitar is everything you have dreamed about in an acoustic. Get that great legendary Martin tone, at a price that will be sure to make you smile.

Hardshell case included.

This guitar is a Beast!

By Sam the Butcher

from Oakland CA

Comments about Martin Road Series Custom GPRS1 Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I spent three weeekends in Guitar Center playing every acoustic guitar they had. Repeatedly. I knew within the first 30 seconds of playing this guitar it was "The One" for me. Even after just playing a $3000 Martin. The GPRS1 looks, feels and sounds great, but I cheaped out and bought something in the $100 range. After some buyers remorse and a few more paychecks, I brought the GPRS1 Home and cannot stop playing it. I strum a couple chords in the morning and bring it to work with me and play it on the downlow at work, and stay up way too late playing it at night. It's a fine and highly addictive instrument. I recorded with it when I first bought it and after a few weeks the sound is already getting alot bigger, with sustain that I could fall asleep to and wake up to still hear it ringing out. Being that it's solid wood, you can really hear it tighten up when it's cold and loosen up when it get warm. This really is "The Working Man's Martin" without a doubt; great for strumming and finger style and affordable to anyone who is serious about owning a solid wood Martin. If you want to bang out a couple chords once a month, buy that $120 Epiphone (it is a nice guitar), but if you are serious about your acoustic guitar game, pick one of these up and watch that monster grow!

EXCELLENT FIT AND FINISH AND SETUP

Comments about Martin Road Series Custom GPRS1 Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

It fit and finish on this guitar is 100% String height on mine was perfect. I played it for two minutes and bought it on the spot. The little thicker body adds a lot to the overall well balanced tones. The guitar looks beautiful. You open the case and you smell "wood". I play everything from bar room country or blues, dinner house easy music. I have owned at least a dozen Martins over the years. This guitar sounds and plays like a much more expensive Martin. AND it comes with a hard Martin case.

Comments about Martin Road Series Custom GPRS1 Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm not an excellent guitarist but as an old guy I stillI love to play and sing. I've had many guitars over the years: Martin D18, Taylors, Washburns, etc...this is a top flight axe at a very reasonable price, and I love playing it both strumming and finger picking...great sustain sound natural & plugged in, easy to play, beautiful to look at...couldn't be happier...you won't regret getting this one...

Comments about Martin Road Series Custom GPRS1 Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Frankly, I've never had the desire to own a Martin. I have many guitars and I just never found anything spectacular about the lower end Martin guitars. That is until I played this GPRS1. Picking it up in the store solely because it was the essentially the only one there I had yet to play, it immediately blew me away. It had an incredibly warm tone. Very good balance across all strings. I could strum it hard, and it sang. Playing fingerstyle, the notes just complimented one another incredibly well with great sustain. The construction is solid! Better than many of the American made Martins I've seen. The neck is stellar - smooth and comfortable, yet substantial. No sharp edges on the frets and the action was great from the start. There isn't a style of music that doesn't sound great on it. At least acoustically. When it's plugged in, though, it's a different story. The electronics are horrid. The sound through an acoustic amp or PA is atrocious. It's very "electronic" sounding, and rolling the tone control up or off does no good. It's almost embarrassing that Martin would put this system in its guitars. I understand that this is a made in Mexico, lower priced Martin. I get it. But it still carries the Martin nameplate and one would think the company would want to make every one of their guitars sing and impress. In this area, Martin has failed miserably. That being said, I'll switch out the electronics for something much better. The guitar deserves it. It truly is a remarkable acoustic guitar.

Comments about Martin Road Series Custom GPRS1 Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Tried some Taylors, Breedlove, Yamaha, and then the Martin GPRS1. No question the Martin was the nicest sounding and playing guitar of the bunch. Someone said a great guitar plays itself, and if this is true then this is a great guitar. So easy to strum and pick.

Comments about Martin Road Series Custom GPRS1 Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I wanted to love this guitar for a lifetime but when I got it home and lived with it for a week I noticed more and more how compressed the sound was / loved the tone but the voice of the guitar sounded as though it couldn't escape the sound hole ( unplugged )/ moody an dark but very little articulation . I thought perhaps it would open up over time but I wasn't sure it would / I was sold on the fantasticly fast solid mahogany neck and felt assured being plecked by Martin I had a keeper but I wondered if the other Martin Sapele guitars were better . I thought I made my mind up earlier when choosing this one that the Martin DSR1 being a dreadnought was gonna be to large and I would give up a faster solid wood neck but I had to go and try one again b 4 my exchange time window closed / Well I traded up to the DSR 1 I like the sound better / not because of the given depth , punch an boom u would expect are inherent in a dreadnought but because it's voice didn't feel choked

          Great Buy,

          By Marty

          from Near Charlotte, NC

          About Me Experienced

Comments about Martin Road Series Custom GPRS1 Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar because I loved the size of the Grand Performance. I have never had a mahogany guitar and wasn't sure I would like the tone. Maybe too mellow for me. Boy was I surprised. As much output as my Martin Dread. And very clear tones.

I bought this guitar on a Sunday afternoon and there were tons of people playing in the Acoustic room. I could not really hear the guitar. When I got home, it seemed the A and low E were muffled and would not ring out. I plugged the guitar in and tapped on the saddle with my pic. The area around high E transferred a strong signal, but when I tapped on the saddle at the side of the low E... nothing.
It could be there was something under the saddle and an easy fix, but it was brand new and shouldn't have an issue. I went back to the store the next day and the guitar tech heard it also. He got me a new one out of the back. We opened it, plugged it in and bam.... beautiful, balanced and loud! We did an exchange and they were extremely helpful at the north Charlotte store.

I immediately took this home and played for about 3-4 hours. What a beautiful sound - both plugged In and unplugged. I see comments where people weren't happy with the plugged in sound and I wasn't with the first guitar. Not sure if it was the bridge, the pick-up or just not sitting flat on the saddle. The second guitar was perfect and sounded great plugged in. The finish is perfect, the set-up is great and the wood smells wonderful when you open the case. This is my 5th Martin. Not counting my Little Martin, it is my least expensive guitar. I think now it is my favorite. It is definitely my wife's favorite. She loves the color and the tone.

Also, I wasn't expecting much with the case that comes with it, but it is the same case as my more expensive Martins. Guitar fits tight like a glove.

          Very happy with this purchase

This guitar is awesome. Really good bang for your buck. It came set up perfectly. This body shape is comfortable and projects well. The sound is warm and full with some good rounded lows and highs that come through just right. Plays like a very well made guitar should. Plugged in it sounds good. Great for a person on a budget that needs a professional looking and sounding guitar. The case is also good quality.
