Great Tone

By AcousticDude

Comments about Martin MEC12 Clapton's Choice Phosphor Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I have used these on my Martin OM for fingerstyle pieces and really like them. I've moved to the Marquis strings since they wrap the ball end in silk and they are very similar. Sounds good with blues as well as regular fingerpicked music.

Great for Taylors!

By Mike Harris

from El Paso

Comments about Martin MEC12 Clapton's Choice Phosphor Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Love the feel and playability of Taylor acoustics, but think they are little too bright? These strings are the solution. They have rich full bass, and clean crisp highs without being overly bright like Elixer's are on my Taylor 314CE. Elixers are great, and I used them on all my guitars except the Taylor because they were just too bright for this guitar. Now the brightness has been toned down and the overall sound is fuller and richer than before. It sounds fantastic, and now I am totally satisfied with the sound of this guitar.

Great strings

By Craig

from Nebraska

Comments about Martin MEC12 Clapton's Choice Phosphor Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I've been playing guitar for just over a year so I decided to get light strings to make it easier to play bends and just easier to play in general. I put these strings on a cheap guitar that I bought to learn on and they sound incredible. They really improved the sound quality of my guitar. I would recommend these strings for beginners on up to advanced players. Great Strings!

Comments about Martin MEC12 Clapton's Choice Phosphor Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

When asked, "do you play the guitar?" I often respond, "No, I pretty much play with the guitar." Still, while I am not a guitar technician nor professional player, I recognize a good, strong string with long life and good tone up and down the neck. I play a 1989 S&P Mahogany, serial number 6091. I didn't use the instrument for a good number of years, so it sat in the case for nearly fifteen years with the original strings. When I pulled it out of the case after all that time it was still in tune, only very fine adjustments needed to bring the tuning back to perfection. I was amazed. I have no idea what strings. Simon and Patrick put on these guitars out of their shop, but they must be some great strings. The MEC12 Clapton strings have the same good tone as those original strings. I do not intend to find out if they have the same longevity.

Comments about Martin MEC12 Clapton's Choice Phosphor Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

After trying many strings, I've always returned to Martin medium phosphor bronze - MSP 4200 - strings on my D-28.

Always use D'Addario phosphor bronze - EJ16 / EJ17 - strings on my Alvarez and Yamaha guitars. To my ears, Martin strings sound best on Martin guitars. D'Addario on others.

I recently purchased a Martin 000-28 EC. I tried Martin, light phosphor bronze - MSP 4100 - and D'Addario light phosphor bronze - EJ16 - strings. The Martin strings were better. I was happy. On a whim I purchased Martin's Clapton's Choice light phosphor bronze - MEC12 - strings. To my surprise I like this set more. That said, they are different. To my ear, they are warmer, more articulate, have a bell like clarity, and hold sustain more than any string I've ever used. Others have described them as woody. I don't hear that. They feel nice under your fingers and bend a bit easier than others. The two key differences are, a warmer tone and longer sustain. Without a doubt, on the 000-28, they are noticeably different than other Martin or D'Addario strings.

I like all of the strings that I mentioned and will continue to use them on specific guitars. Try the Clapton's Choice set if you're curious, you may be pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting to be surprised but I was. I hope that you find this info valuable.

This was a good set, but I settled with EB PB 12s. Sounds good but corrodes too soon, and loses smoothness and tone after about a couple of days.

I bought these strings to put on my Ibanez acoustic guitar. Good thing I got two sets, because I broke the high E string on my first try, with what I thought was very little tension. The tone of these strings is outstanding compared to the old (original) strings that came on it. The feel is also very nice and quite smooth.
