Do not order this case!!! If you do, you WILL NOT receive the item that is pictured here on Guitar Centers website. You will receive a completely different product and not the one you see here with the large molded feet on the side of the case and the molded bumper around the bottom. You will receive an inferior product with a major manufacturers defect, design flaw or whatever you would like to call it. You will be sent the case with the metal feet on the side that are TOO SHORT and do not extend past the hinge. It is large, narrow and SHARP and will gouge yours or someone else's hardwood floors and scratch other materials. (It also has an impression on the top shaped like an "m") Also as a result, your case will not sit level on its side, it will tilt to one side. That hing is not made like the ones on the wood case to be used as one of the feet. 3 times I was sent one of these cases, all with this problem. THEN, ONLY 1 MONTH LATER, THE PICTURE ON THE WEBSITE WAS CHANGED SHOWING A DIFFERENT, NEW STYLE CASE, the one that is there now with the large molded feet and bumper. So I ordered the NEW case shown on the website. SUPRISE!!! I received the OTHER case....TWICE again. Store Managers got involved and nobody at GC (or Musicians Friend) could figure out how to get me the proper case I ordered and was now being shown on the website. Calls to the warehouse and everything. The reason why it appears is because it does not EXIST. I called Martin and they said the case shown on the website (with the large molded feet and the bumper) IS A MODEL NO LONGER MADE OR AVAILABLE. So, from what has happened it appears GC is showing you a product with better features that is not even available, so you will order it and then they will send you a different one WITHOUT THOSE FEATURES.....AND IS FLAWED. Just to move their bad product. Lousy thing to do....by a lousy company!!! Spending my money elsewhere like many others now.

A Must for all Martin Dreads

By Pro From Dover

from Dover, NJ

Comments about Martin 640 Dreadnought Hardshell Case:

If you purchased (or have) a Martin Dreadnought guitar that did not come with this Martin 640 molded case and are considering the purchase of a case other than this Martin 640, my advice to you: DONۡT DO IT! Shell out a few extra $$ and buy THIS case instead. This case is well-built and is designed to hold and protect your Martin Dread (D- models) perfectly. I tried other cases first for my Martins that came with lesser Martin cases, like the Gator, Road Runner and even the venerable SKB-18. All of these are too large in the body area, and your Martin will slide around even with the case closed! On the other hand, your Martin Dread will fit like a glove in this Martin 640 case. Protect your Martin guitar investment with the case thatۡs made for it!

Molded Martin Case

By Mark Chalupsky

from Carver, MN

Comments about Martin 640 Dreadnought Hardshell Case:

My custom Martin HD-28VS was supposed to come in a 645 Martin molded case, but came in a very nice more expensive case. Martin was kind enough to have a 645 case specially made and sent it to me to replace the Geib which I bought from Martin for my Martin D12-20 12 string guitar. The Geib case is a very nice case, but very heavy with an old style look. The molded case is sleek, very light, and very protective. The Martin logo is molded right into the top of the case. Get the molded cae, you will not regret it.

Plastic cases hold humidity better and with a Martin logo

By Gino

Comments about Martin 640 Dreadnought Hardshell Case:

Guitar sleeps inside it and You can condition the case ready for humidifying by keeping it closed at all times and I notice the guitar takes most of the humidity and not the case like the wooden versions. It also has a cool effect with a CF Martin molded in.

Excellent case

Comments about Martin 640 Dreadnought Hardshell Case:

I wanted to offer a "workaround" to one of the negative comments I read before purchasing the case. The user had a problem with the plastic cracking in the vicinity of the center clasp. I will say that I have noticed the fit on the case is quite tight at this location, especially because I have added a peg for fastening my guitar strap to the base of the neck. I have found a simple solution - just fasten the two adjacent clasps first. This distributes any stress on the plastic case and makes it easy to fasten the center clasp without risking damage to the case. I am grateful to the reviewer who pointed out this potential problem so I could address it before it manifested itself on my case.

Expensive but perfect fitting great case

By Joseph A. Cote

from Woolwich, ME

Comments about Martin 640 Dreadnought Hardshell Case:

This case is very durable and is a perfect fit, but to have that perfect fit you lose an important feature: storage space. I love this case, but I wish it had a slightly larger space for picks, tuner, capo, and a strap. There is no way possible to keep a strap in this case with a guitar. This case is also quite pricey, but it has that martin logo on the front so you get what you pay for... as long as you know what you're paying for.

Martin Guitar Case

By James D. Domino

from Elmwood Park, IL

Comments about Martin 640 Dreadnought Hardshell Case:

As a Martin guitar owner for the last 38 years, I decided to choose the best in a replacement case. I was very impressed with the Martin 640 case not only for its looks but for its quality workmanship and design. I was particularly impressed with the fit of the guitar as well as the balance when being carried. The "look" is typical of Martin, always a step ahead!

Comments about Martin 640 Dreadnought Hardshell Case:

What can you say. It's a Martin Dreadnaught molded case. It fits my D35 like a glove. It is better quality than the original case, in some ways, in others not so much. The first case lasted 35 years before it started cracking. If this one lasts that long, I will be a long gone happy camper.

Comments about Martin 640 Dreadnought Hardshell Case:

This is an amazing case. With a few, in my opinion, major drawbacks. Maybe it's just mine, but either way.
        1. The case won't hold itself open, therefore forcing you to use the pocket cover as a prop to hold it open. Over time I'm sure this will break that little lid.
        2. The clasps are incredibly sharp. I'm worried ever single time I put my $3300 martin in this case that the case is what's going to damage it. I really wish that they had taken a better look at the details. Spending this much on a guitar and having a case damage it is kind of a big deal, and something I worry about daily.

Other than that it's a lovely case. Strong, durable, beautiful green interior. A decent pocket for capos, strings etc. fits like a glove.

Comments about Martin 640 Dreadnought Hardshell Case:

Love my new 2017 Martin D-28 but the case that came with the guitar, not so much. It is not that this is a bad case it is just that there is no room to put a case humidifier and have it work efficiently. As it is I have two Oasis humidifiers in the case, one in the body of the guitar and one near the neck. The case holds the guitar very securely and the latches are very well constructed so from that point of view it is a very good case. Here in the high desert with humidity in the single digits you really need a case that accommodates a humidifier.

While being a little spendy for a hard shell guitar case this one is well worth the extra dollars. Very well made and fits the Martin DX1 like a glove. If your looking for a protective case that seals well for hydration this case is for you.
