Martin Dreadnought
The very first dreadnought guitars were designed and crafted by C. F. Martin & Co. in 1916, but marketed in Boston and New York exclusively under the Oliver Ditson brand. Originally made for Hawaiian slide playing style, the very first dreadnought made was a Model 222 shipped to Ditson in August of 1916. After Ditson went out of business in the early 1930s, Martin introduced the D-1 and D-2 dreadnoughts for standard playing style that would soon become Martin’s iconic D-18 and D-28 models. I finally get my Dream Guitar!
By Ms Selah Peterson
from Champaign, Illinois
Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
I have played as a hobby for the past 40 years and have always wanted a Martin acoustic guitar.I have'nt played for awhile because of my arthritis in my hands. However, when I picked up this D-16GT Martin in the store I was amazed at the action because I could actually play it! I played all the Martins in the store but I fell in love with the D-16GT for it's playability and sound. I thought I would never be able to play again but Martin has made my dream come true! Thank you Martin Guitars.

The ACTION!
By Converted Martin Player
from Burlington, Ontario
Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
The most shocking thing I can come up with about the D-16GT, is the playability....not a buzz anywhere....I looked for months, not weeks, for that "Oh my gawd I love this guitar!!! This is the one!" And although I never listened to any of the hype about Martin vs. Gibson or Taylor, I am a Gibson camp guy when I comes to electrics....I had discounted Martin, wanting a Gibson, but boy was I wrong....in fact....my D-16GT has lower action than my Gibson Les Paul, which is as absolutely low as it gets on jumbo frets.....for the price it's a steal....

Sweet!!
By Corey
from Mesa, Arizona
Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
I purchased my Martin D-16GT in January of this year. I had spent weeks searching for just the right guitar. As soon as I started playing the D-16GT I knew I had found the one. I was amazed by the rich warm sounds produced by this guitar. I play it every day. It sounds so sweet I have a hard time putting it down. Hence, my guitar skills have improved drastically since I bought it. All of my friends are jealous and jump at any opportunity to play it. I was also pleased with my experience at Guitar Center. From the time I walked through the front door, to being ushered into the quiet room, to being approved for credit, I was treated by a most pleasant and efficient staff.

The best Mid-range Martin
By Alexanddurrr
from Los Angeles, CA
Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
I'm a HUGE fan of Martin guitars, although I have only owned one. The Martin D-16GT is my choice for a mid-range priced Martin guitar. Mine actually came with the pickup installed, and that's what was one of the more important features to me. When I first bought this guitar, it had an amazing sound to it. It's not as light and twangy as a Taylor, and not too loud like a Larrivee. To me, the Martins are right in the middle with a smoothe and rich sound. When you go for the lower end martins, you don't get that rich quality of a sound, so I went with this one. The Martins that go for higher, such as the D-28 is my dream guitar. Sometimes i wish that I saved up more for the D-28, but I am content with the D-16GT. This guitar isn't as good sounding when it comes to finger picking. I recommend this guitar to somebody such as me. Not enough money to spend 2 grand on a fancy Martin, but you still love the Martin sound over any other Acoustic companies.

Totally satisfied...
By Mark
from Carmel Valley, CA
Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
I bought my D-16GT sight unseen, knowing that I've simply never played a bad Martin in 40 years of guitar playing. I ordered it online, picked it up at the store in Gilroy (CA) and proceeded to jam with friends, all playing Martins of various flavors. The D16GT fit right in with the D28 and 000-18 being played; the friend playing the D28 was pleasantly impressed when we swapped guitars. The guitar has a full dreadnought sound, which may be a bit loud for some players and I might try some other strings to cut the bright sound a bit (it comes with Martin Lifespan SP strings) but other than that, all the tone I expect from a D18 is there, especially in the bottom end. It really blasts with a pick, so I often just finger pick or use the fingernail to control the volume a bit. (speaking all acoustic here; no electronics onboard) The action is excellent and is steady all the way up the neck. The top has a gloss finish with a matte finish on the sides and one-piece back. The workmanship is classic Martin. I cannot say that I'm missing any of the finer D-18 appointments that have been swapped out with the D16GT in order to lower the cost. (Richlite fingerboard instead of ebony, ply block construction instead of solid mahogany blocks, etc) Like I said, I'm completely satisfied, and if I ever did want to 'upgrade' to another Martin, I'd have to play them side-by-side and have to really hear something special from another guitar before I'd feel like I needed to change. If you're not sure, play one in the store and see what you think. It's a Martin for sure.

Martin D-16GT
By Mike
from Maplewood, MN
Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
Great Sound, comfortable to play, I traded in a Martin DCX1E which played extremely well but didn't have the low end or volume that I was looking for. The D-16GT has both. Completely satisfied so far.

Happy With My Choice
By Cameron
from Minneapolis, MN
Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
I recently purchased a Martin D16GT and love the tone and playability of this guitar! I chose it over a Gibson Songmaker that was similarily priced and while I liked the Gibson playabilty, tone, and quality,it really was no match when compared with the Martin D16. Besides great tone and playability, I wanted a solid body guitar that was affordable and was made in America. I haven't had this guitar for very long but have already fallen in love with it. I'm very happy with my choice.

I love this Guitar!
By JD

Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
I play electric so this is my really first acoustic. I spent days and hours at music stores searching for a Martin I wanted but each one had a different feel and sound. I did not want to spend the money on this guitar because it was over my budget but I am sure glad I did. The feel and sound is amazing. It has a nice warm but punchy sound which is what I was looking for. The neck, action is perfect and so easy to play. This is a USA made model Martin not a Mexican made one. I will be installing Fishman electronics in the future. This is no doubt and excellent guitar for beginner or advanced guitarist. Buy one you'll be glad you did. I am

Affordable Martin
By travlin
from Loire, Tx
Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
When I first picked up the D16GT, I saw the price tag and thought "That's not bad". Then, I played it and thought "That's great!" Finally able to purchase a Martin at a price that was affordable to me with the sound that I was looking for. I compared the D16GT to several other higher priced Martin's and found the sound to be just about the same in all. If you're looking for a great guitar at a great price, this is it!

Great Martin sound, new materials and good price
By Bltprf502
from Chattanooga, TN
Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
Nice guitar! Not all the same materials used to make a classic D-18 or D-28, but they did a great job on the sound... Very nice. The bolt on neck and micarta fret board is great for durability and outdoors. I use this guitar as a travel guitar as I travel a great deal and want a solid wood guitar to play while on the road. They is when I get to play most. I also own a D-18 which I love, but does not take me away from playing the D-16 GT. I strongly reccomend this guitar for any type of acoustical guitar needs.

Same Martin Sound
By Wayne Barron
from Winnipeg
Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
Have tried many higher priced Martins ,but compared to the D-18 or D-28 I liked the warmer sound this projects. All Martins have a great sound ,but the rosewoods sound a bit tinnier.I have to agree with other reviewers ,this is a great buy. Got a Mint condition D-16GT from Guitar Center for a great price on a Martin that I thought I never would be able to afford. Wrong this is like brand new ,all the tags and plastic still on the pick-guard, strung with Martin SP Lifespan coated light strings. Agree the action is a little high for me and the same model I demoed in a local store had regular SP medium 80/20 strings which I think I prefer. It may be that with SP mediums the action is perfect.

By Gregg Hickman

Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
A nice fit in the Martin line as this guitar is about $1k less than the D-18 but the differences are minimal. I ordered online with Guitar Center. The guitar arrived in perfect condition and I caught a good discount with the pre-holiday sales. Finally something made in the USA!!

So good, I bought 2!
By JeffA

Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
I went to my local GC store, looking for a high school graduation present for my 18-year old son. Picked up the D16-GT, and I immediately fell in love. Bright highs, deep lows, wonderful action... I bought it and sent it to him in Alaska. After a couple of weeks, I missed the sound of that guitar.. The feel... The smell of a this Martin. I drove to my GC and bought another one for myself! You cannot find another guitar under $1000 with this sound, projection and quality!

get one while they make it
By Gino

Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
I own an original D28 and a 2004 HD28V but I play with the D16GT everyday from sunrise to midnight. I have installed a bband a2.2 pick up and will never part with this ever. The fret board is made of tough material that will never get scratched and you just need to lower the action and get light strings for long jam sessions and you will never let go of this "EVER". pros use it we can too.:) gino

Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:
I have been taking lessons now for about a year, after coming back from a layoff of 40 years. I began a year ago on a Yamaha with Nato sides and back. This Martin has mahogany sides and back that produce a much richer sound that makes playing more desirable. The fretboard is a composite fiber, that I suppose keeps the price down. I bought this during a sale at GC and am thoroughly satisfied with the product. I'll play this a few years before moving up either to a better Martin or a Gibson.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
