i got this for X-mas...someone has to take care of yourself. anyway, i wanted a lightweight 12" speaker solid state amp that had marshall like tones. i found this and bought it. you can set the four channels to your own preferences, but each channel is different(clean, crunch, od1, od2) with increasing gain and whatnot. you can still get 4 distinct sounds and it comes with a footswitch (great!) that allows you to cycle thru each saved setting. the effects are there nothing special but you have to lean over and set them as your playing...they are okay but i havent really used them...i mainly plug in and play...it goes for just under 400 bucks and hopefully it is tough and reliable for what i am going to use it for...just a hobby of mine...you never know what will develop...so pick one up and let it rip !

I had this amp for 1 day and returned it.
Please believe me that this solid state marshall amp has one of the worst sound quality i've ever heard. Especially the OD2 channel. The gain sounds very artificial. Palm muting causes a garbled and disgusting sound. There are too many useless effects, and controls are very user-UNfriendly.
Don't waste your money on this amp please. I returned it and got a DSL40c tube amp. It's a WORLD of a difference!

Solid amp for starting

By Matthew Sorrentino

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG50CFX 50W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp about a few months ago and its a good amp, but it has its drawbacks. The clean setting is great sounding and works well with the built in effects. The crunch and distortion settings are not as nice sounding but still solid. I feel like its just missing a little bit of crunch and bite to it. All of the effects and reverb work well with all of the channels though. All in all a solid amp but a little pricy for what you get.

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG50CFX 50W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I need a good small amp for home. This was a good choice. Although I do wish it had the 4 button foot controller, which I will get as soon as they are available. This amp will be better with assignable foot control. The 50 watts is plenty loud for small gigs and garage practice.

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG50CFX 50W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

By utilizing the Guitar Center demonstration video of the product while concurrently playing the guitar to address the features functionality and responses, I was amazed at the sound quality, versatility, and power of the amp.

I'm 100% satisfied with this product. Also, I was fortunate in that I purchased the product online from the Guitar Center at a sale price and, through an additional promotion, I received an additional 15% discount.

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG50CFX 50W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I use this for practice and performances in small to medium venues of 500 to 2000 people. It is small enough to carry easily, loud enough to keep up with a six piece band and six singers on stage...I mic it through the FOH system for larger venues. The effects are good enough that I don't have to carry my pedals (with the exception of a Wah/Volume pedal and a Korg pedal tuner). I have the MG 4 Channel Foot Controller which allows me to preset my sounds; however, there is a volume drop between Clean and Crunch/OD1/OD2 that has to be adjusted manually (...I use the Wah pedal so that I don't have to keep going back and forth to my amp). I use the Korg tuner pedal because it is easier to see, easier to use, and I believe just as accurate as the foot controller. I love the sound and versatility, dependability (no tubes), and ease of transport. I play regularly in churches, at fair grounds, and at university halls in venues of 500 to 2000. It saves my back and sounds great for whatever style I need to play from country, to rock, to jazz, to blues. I can always add an extra cab (if need be) for very large stages; but, I rarely have too. I can get this little solid state unit to feed back perfectly just by turning my guitar into it (for a thrilling effect) and find it sensitive to the many other nuances of my technique and guitars (Gibson SG, Studio, and Gold Top, and my Fender Stratocaster). I am going to buy a couple more (one for home use and another for stage and warm up). I highly recommend for any musician from beginner to pro. You cannot beat the bang for the buck. At 25 pounds it is a delight to carry. You should also consider the 2-12 100 W model (56 pounds). It is another amazing amp for the serious musician. Many people will argue that Tubes cannot be beat. If you are recording, that is true. But, if you are on the road, Solid State is the way to go. I get some of my best sounds out of this amp and it is dependable night after night.

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG50CFX 50W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

The MG50CFX was a replacement for the larger MG100 half stack, which I bought used (service is another issue addressed below) because the 100W was actually too loud, something a hard rock guy has difficulty saying. Therefore, the MG50 was a logical choice for practice or miking, same controls, very good 'warmth' (analog circuitry) for solid state and still enough power to drive the 4 X 12 cabinet I kept. I dislike the hassle and expense (and nowadays, over-ratedness) of tube amps, so this should have been perfect, with 4 channels of great clean to super overdrive. The onboard effects are so-so and I use foot pedals, so Marshall could have added a presence knob instead and I would have been happy. The preset and manual modes are a bit cryptic, using the damping button to switch.
Overall, an excellent sounding, good-looking smaller amp and fair value that could use some quality control. It may not 'feel' like a tub amp, but it certainly sounds like one without the valve amp drawbacks.

MG OWNER NOTE: for some reason, Marshall's manuals and sales stores seem to think the MG4 foot controller works with the newer MG amps. IT DOES NOT. It only works for amps ending with model letters "FX", "CFX". I tried one and had return it too. Shame Marshall can't keep its act together on updating accessories, as I'd really like to use, store and recall the onboard effect and reverb settings without having to walk over the amp between songs.

Worse, somehow I ended up with a bad stock Marshall footswitch out of the box – on the MG series there are two footswitch buttons to control between the four channels. This didn't work, and it rendered the onboard effects worthless as well. GC said I had to return the entire amp package to get a new one. Not happening, so I ordered a $90 replacement GC assured me would work. It didn't, and I ended up shipping it back today (feel free to reimburse me for the freight, GC) and bought the proper PEDL-90010 from a local Marshall dealer.

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG50CFX 50W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I own two. One for rehearsal and one for homework. I've owned other Marshall amps but getting old sucks and lugging around a full stack is not what I want to be doing at this point in my life. That said, this amp will NOT give you the legendary plexi tone by itself. But I use a T.C. HELICON dark matter pedal for that. And through the clean channel it produces a very pleasant roar at a reasonable volume which works for me. Completely dependable too. So all in all this is a good amp for the money. Just don't expect miracles. You get what you pay for.
