Overview

The next generation of the Marshall DSL series has arrived! These DSL amps are laden with Marshall tone, features and functionality for the novice, as well as pros performing on the world’s biggest stages. The DSL series includes the following updated features:

Adjustable Power Output
The DSL models feature adjustable power settings, which delivers all-valve tone and feel, at any volume, from bedroom to stage. This technology adjusts power to the valves, instead of just turning off valve stages, allowing the amp to remain articulate and dynamic.

EQ Refinements
Some innovative tweaks to the EQ circuitry have given the new DSLs even greater tonal flexibility. The EQ section of the new DSLs can deliver exactly what your ears are looking for.

Emulated Output
Marshall's partnership with Softube has led to the creation of award-winning plug-ins, as well as exceptional tone in its CODE digital amps. The same team is responsible for the development of the new emulated output feature, found in the DSL series. Both the headphone out, and line out on the DSL models boast incredibly accurate emulation of Marshall's famed 1960 cabinet.

Reverb, Resonance and Master Volume
The DSL is now more versatile than ever, with features including discrete master volume controls for each channel, built-in reverb and resonance controls (the DSL1 and DSL5 do not offer resonance controls).

New Models
Additions to the range include the DSL1 head and combos, which offer all-valve Marshall DSL tone in a smaller package, plus a DSL20 combo and head.

Ahh.... the 70's!!

Comments about Marshall DSL20HR 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have been playing guitar for almost 50 years, but due to a hand injury, I have started experimenting with electrics because playing acoustic has been difficult. I haven't owned an amp since the late 70's when I had a Fender Twin Reverb. I was always in awe of the big Marshall stacks that were popular with bands back then, so when I saw this bite-sized version I was very intrigued. I had been considering either a used Lead 12 or 15 watt Marshall head, but when I accidentally ran across this unit, and saw it had an effects loop, that sealed the deal.

Typical easy-peasy Guitar Center online order, quick shipping along with the 2x12 Marshall Vertical Slant Cabinet.

I don't have a lot of experience with amps, but I'm pleased with the sound so far. I have my Trio Band Creator Plus running through the effects loop. The 10 watt setting is nice, as this amp has plenty of power for my use. I'm waiting for a day when both neighbors are away from home so I can really crank it up. I play mostly on the clean channel. You have to keep the gain under 9 o'clock to keep the signal clean at high volume. The Ultra Gain channel really barks, great for the Neil Young songs.

The reverb is a little on the weak side, being used to the Fender Twin, it's really not noticeable until it's at least halfway up. Also, I really don't notice much difference in the sound when tweaking the Resonance and Presence controls, maybe it makes more difference when the amp is cranked up.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the purchase.

Comments about Marshall DSL20HR 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

more clean head room than my old DSL15H, which i traded in towards this amp....i bought the Marshall DSL20H, because Marshall added an effects loop, which works fine....the reverb is fair, it doesn't do much....where this amp shines vs the old DSL15H is the ultra gain channel...it was virtually unusable on the old amp...way too much gain and very noisy....Marshall has fixed that on the new model...much more usable gain channel with a lot less noise..

Comments about Marshall DSL20HR 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

i am a former owner of the DSL15H, which i traded in towards the purchase of my new DSL20H.....for the most part, the DSL2OHR is an improvement over the DSL15H.....that being said, i actually prefer the clean (classic gain) channel of the DSL15H slightly more than the DSL20HR., although the new amp does seem to have a bit more clean headroom....like the DSL15H, the classic gain is actually a clean channel, there is not a whole lot of crunch on it.....the reverb is pretty mild, and does not do very much...i do like the bass resonance and presence controls...the bass, mid-range and treble controls work for both channels and work well....there is also a mid-scoop feature... the effects loop works well and is what attracted me to this amp.......the ultra gain is far superior on the DSL20Hr vs my old DSL15H...on the old amp, the gain channel was very hissy and had too much gain...much better on the DSL20HR...great Marshall tone and crunch...overall i do like this amp, and it is a nice upgrade over my old DSL15H.

      Marshall or Nothing.

Comments about Marshall DSL20HR 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Great sounding amp. Both the Classic Gain and Ultra Gain channels are very usable. There is plenty of headroom on the clean channel (speaking from bedroom level playing of course), but will provide that classic, warm distortion you expect from a Marshall when cranked up. The distortion channel is not overly distorted or harsh, and is great for producing those modern rock sounds. The resonance and presence knobs are great for shaping difference sounds depending on what you are looking for. The tone shift button seems to be a mid scoop. The reverb knob is ok. Like what others have said, it's pretty weak until you turn it up a bit. Personally I like it that way because it gives you the ability to add just a hint of reverb when you are not wanting it to be overpowering. The effects loop is a really nice feature. And that you have the ability to switch the effects loop on and off with the pedal. The amp its self is put together really well and it's nice to see that the pedal is made of metal and not cheap plastic.

Overall I really like this amp and not disappointed one bit.

Comments about Marshall DSL20HR 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have this thing plugged into a 4x12 with eminence legend 50's and it sounds spectacular! I have been using a Blackstar ht50 head and I have to say that the distortion on the Marshall is supremely better. It has that crunch that I have been looking for. Also, not fizzy as some of the Marshalls that I have tested have sounded. The clean (classic gain) channel is also very usable. I play in a cover band and was using the Blackstar for it's versatility. This Marshall is almost as versatile, with the exception being that the Blackstar has two clean options. I can work this "little" problem out. No worries, the distortion is THAT much better. Very powerful and portable. Can't wait to use it in my next gig!
Also, it takes pedals even better than the Blackstar, which I also did well in that category. The reverb isn't quite as full as the Blackstar, but I am fine with it.

Comments about Marshall DSL20HR 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Great Ultra Gain, Good Cleans. Clean Gain adds no dirt. Noisy transition click going from chan to chan which makes it hard to use live. Gives you the awesome Marshall sound and has plenty of volume, just not live performance friendly. Will be returning.

Comments about Marshall DSL20HR 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Loved the tones from this new version of the DSL line, all the gripes from the past have been fixed. However, I ran into a problem with the fx loop when using a looper. If I recorded a clean phrase and switched over to the gain channel the the volume of the looped phrase dropped dramatically. If I tracked a phrase from the gain channel and switched to the clean channel the looping phrase got really loud.

Smartest design. Simplest design. A little tight until the leather loosens up a bit. After that, they slip on, clamp down. Thats it.. Taking off , slide button up, pull off with little effort. A round of applause to this company, a customer for life here. Just an added bonus, they offer quite a few styles. Ive tried many locking straps... they dont come close to lock it straps. Seriously.
