Overview

The next generation of the Marshall DSL series has arrived! These DSL amps are laden with Marshall tone, features and functionality for the novice, as well as pros performing on the world’s biggest stages. The DSL series includes the following updated features:

Adjustable Power Output
The DSL models feature adjustable power settings, which delivers all-valve tone and feel, at any volume, from bedroom to stage. This technology adjusts power to the valves, instead of just turning off valve stages, allowing the amp to remain articulate and dynamic.

EQ Refinements
Some innovative tweaks to the EQ circuitry have given the new DSLs even greater tonal flexibility. The EQ section of the new DSLs can deliver exactly what your ears are looking for.

Emulated Output
Marshall's partnership with Softube has led to the creation of award-winning plug-ins, as well as exceptional tone in its CODE digital amps. The same team is responsible for the development of the new emulated output feature, found in the DSL series. Both the headphone out, and line out on the DSL models boast incredibly accurate emulation of Marshall's famed 1960 cabinet.

Reverb, Resonance and Master Volume
The DSL is now more versatile than ever, with features including discrete master volume controls for each channel, built-in reverb and resonance controls (the DSL1 and DSL5 do not offer resonance controls).

New Models
Additions to the range include the DSL1 head and combos, which offer all-valve Marshall DSL tone in a smaller package, plus a DSL20 combo and head.

Comments about Marshall DSL1HR 1W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

1st off, I LOVE THIS AMP! Probably the best "bang for the buck" I have spent on a guitar amplifier, ever. It's amazing how well lunchbox amplifiers are sounding these days. Amp manufacturers are putting more resources into their development, and it shows.

Playing this mini-Marshall through an old Marshall 1982a cabinet sounds convincingly like the bigger Marshall amps I've owned and/or played in my 42 years of applying pick to string. I currently have a modified 1980 Marshall 2204, and can muster up nearly an identical sound with this little 1 watt DSL, and at normal talking levels without making my eardrums tickle. The DSL1HR uses the same push-pull "class AB" circuit as its bigger siblings, except by using both halves of the 12AU7 output tube rather than output tubes in pairs or quads. That gives it a more convincing Marshall sound compared to a "class A" circuit.

The clean channel is pretty much "Fender" pristine, but with the Marshall midrange bump. The overdrive channel can go from an overdriven Plexi, to JMP roar, to JCM 800 saturation, and finally to JVM insanity, with the twist of a knob. No need for an overdrive/distortion pedal here. The amp also blooms with delicious harmonics and sag, at very low sound pressure levels. Thankfully they did not put "diode clipping" into the front end of this amp. Pedals can cover that if needed.

The reverb, effects loop, and emulated out are all great assets to shape and project your sound. I prefer the sound through a "real" cabinet as opposed to the emulated (1960 cab) out, but the emulated out does have its advantages in a live gig. The tone shift gives a scooped-mid sound, but I prefer the midrange presence which Marshalls are so famous for, so I normally keep the tone shift button off.

Another advantage is the amp comes with a channel selector foot switch and a speaker cable! The only caveat is a small "spillover" click when switching from the OD channel to clean.

BUY THIS AMP...I DARE YOU TO!!!

Comments about Marshall DSL1HR 1W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

First off I want everyone to know this comes with a footswitch! What? Yes! This little nugget has an effects loop too. What? Yes! ....Oh yeah two channels of delicious Marshall flavor. (no joke)
The DSL1 head sounds amazing through my 112 cabinet. If your looking for a home practice amp, this is it. Mic it or run a line to the P/A, and it could be band equipment. Yes, go ahead and laugh. Marshall may have perfected the small tube amp. I am absolutely amazed. I have to giggle every time I turn it on.
I have owned many amps, and I can tell you this is money well spent. Major props to Marshall on this.

Use for home /bedroom practice. Has great volume through the speaker output, but level through the emulated /headphones is very low. Even through the gain channel.

Comments about Marshall DSL1HR 1W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Marshall has done well with this amp. The build quality seems of high order, fit and finish on my amp is excellent. Internal layout appears well thought out, a pleasant change. Time will tell..
Currently running it through a JTM 1x12 cab w/Celestion G12 Heritage 80w 16Ω driver. Axes, SGs, Strats, Teles.. Stock tubes.
This lil' beast has very effective controls, there are endless tones to be found if you have the patience to find them. That matters to me as I prefer not to use effects, it does well with the boards and pedals I have, so not a problem I just don't use em much.
Clean Channel, I have had hours of fun with this, some have commented it is a bit bright, not necessarily my experience, however that's what the knobs are for, there are even knobs on the guitars, wow, the sound you want is there you just have to look for it.. It's worth the effort..
Drive Channel, It's a Marshall.... I find tones at reasonable levels that are present in the big Marshal amps that need to be wound up a bit to get there, not really functional most of the time at home. This is an outstanding home amp especially for drive junkies. You can rage distortion and not run the family and neighbors off.. Pretty flippen cool..
Versatility of this amp is rather remarkable, tones from nearly every genre of electric music are there somewhere to be found from olde skool blues through todays sounds. One of my friends is a jazz freak, stopped by to check out the rig, she was blown away and now owns one too..
It would have been cool to have a gain control for the Clean side, far from a a deal breaker. Also the feet are bit short so I swapped em out for a taller set. Reverb is subtle but effective. All in all pretty trivial..
Guitars and Amps are essentially audio alchemy, a million different variables combine to create something, whether it works for you no one can tell.
That said if your looking for a low watt tube head this one deserves an audition before you put those hard earned $$$ out..

Comments about Marshall DSL1HR 1W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

If you like classic Marshall tones you will find them in this little package "TLP". If you want and amp that feels like home and is easy to dial in you will find it with TLP. If you like your overdrive tones directly from the amp you will find them with TLP. If you need an effects loop for ambiance pedals you will find they play well with TLP. If you have a cab or two in your studio it is Nirvana!
