The Marantz MPH-2's are absolutely AWESOME. I have not heard anything that is capable of reproducing the bass accuracy that these things have. These head phones do a great job portraying the stage presence of bass, making me feel as if I actually have a (15" studio) subwoofer in my room, capable of hitting the lowest of notes with relative ease. Instead of placing the bass in a further back location from the highs and mids, (stereo wise like the sony MDR-7510's will tend to do), these headphones place the bass closer the the listener, making the bass easier to predict when monitoring with out a speaker/subwoofer setup. And the most important part... These are designed to be efficient, requiring less power (at an easy 300mW), which even my oldest running computer (7 years and running strong) has no problem driving. I'm sure you can use an amp, but you definitely don't need to have one to get a great experience with these. The one thing I must say, is that these must be broken in, as all studio headphones need to. I will play music at a low to moderate volume for about 8 or so hours (a shift at work) before I really give it a good listen. I notice the sound will clean up most after a solid 24 hours of music playing. I have been through four sets of headphones this month alone(all studio grade headphones, tascam TH-300X, Sony MDR-7510, and StatusAudio CB-1's) and this has been the process for each and every one. I found that every time I listened to the headphones, right out of the box, I could tell that they were just not "broken in" if you will. The clarity on the head phones is up to par, however the bass may make it a tad bit hard to hear if you are driving at low volumes. That is why I use these in conjuction with the CB-1's. These are my dedicated bass headphones, and the CB-1's are my dedicated high and mid headphones. I'll use the Sony's when mixing the tracks together, and I'll often find myself using these MPH-2 to verify bass output. These are rare already!

I bought these simply because they were available at a terrific sale price and I needed a couple of spare studio headphones for recording and editing. I'm not someone who spends a lot of money on things just because they have a good label and I have been pleasantly surprised in the past with bargain products. This was not the case here. They are built well and comfortable, but the sound quality is poor. It literally sounds like they are packed with cotton as the sound is too heavy on the bass side and the clarity is poor. Yes, I could fiddle with EQ's to bring them up to speed, but when editing for recording, this just wont fly. They are getting returned.

Comments about Marantz MPH-2 Professional Studio Headphones:

I bought this with promotional discount price. So I don't have any complaints. However, with the full price around $100, this headphone is definitely not worthy. The output volume is lower than normal. The sound quality is average, mid-range sound is muddy into the background and it lacks treble. No complaint about the bass though. Overall, I'm disappointed with its sound. I own many Marantz receivers and they are superior in sound reproduction. But this time Marantz let me down.

I bought this so I could play my guitar without bothering the family. I was impressed by the sound quality and comfort. I also like how the cord is a separate component so it can be replaced if necessary. Got it on sale for a great price. I would by them again.

I got these for a "song." (Sale price) I am blown away by the quality of these headphones. The entire musical spectrum is clear as a bell, from the lowest lows, to the highest highs. You not only hear the strings on a guitar picked, but you actually hear the pick striking the strings. I MUST have more of these. Hope they will go on sale again in the near future. I HIGHLY recommend these phones. They are every bit as good as anything Bose or any other company has available at a FRACTION of the cost !

Accurate, broad response. I let mine play for about 10 days before I listened to them and they are quite nice, if you like an accurate broad range. I mainly use these to mix and monitor, but put them on when I'm doing Photoshop and don't feel like getting my Senn M2 circums, which are now pretty much just for out and about.

The only thing I don't like about these headphones is the cabling. I feel that is should have come with a couple cable options like a coiled cable and a shorter cable. It comes with an extremely long cable. The sound quality is great, with great separation and really good Highs and lows. The pads are really soft and comfortable.

These are the most best sounding headphones that I own and I have over ten pairs of high quality to high-end audiophile headphones. My personal opinion on these headphones are highly rated for the build quality and the specs and mainly the sound. You can use them in your home or professional studio as I do or use them for your personal electronic devises without having to use an headphone amp. It has only 32 ohms and an outstanding frequency response of 10hz-30000khz. They are awesome. I definitnly would recommend headphones.

I use them with my ME-80 guitar processor or my e-drums when my kid is sleeping and I can't just jam out. They replaced my old Bayer Dynamic headphones that have been used and abused for the last 15 years. The weight and style are similar and the price was right. I'd say they are pretty similar in sound and wearability. These seem to be sturdier but my old ones were used so long they were literally falling apart. As far as it has gone so far, they are a decent replacement, overall I really like them. They block the sound out pretty well and have a decent range to them. The sound is good across the spectrum, the bass is audible but not overpowering in any way. I don't mind a bulky headphone so to me they aren't bad in that respect but I've heard that said about them. I think the cable being removable is great, I usually wear it the spot where it enters the left ear. While not an exact replacement for my old ones for the price I have no complaints about them at all. I'd purchase these for sure.

Comments about Marantz MPH-2 Professional Studio Headphones:

Keep these connected to a board that sits literally inches from my drum throne in my basement. Used them maybe a total of 2 hours and there they sat because I was trying a different method of monitoring. Last week I put in some music to play to, put the headphones on after a few months of them just laying there and no sound in one ear! They were undisturbed..... I don't get it....

Great headphones! They have an amazing bass response and clarity across the whole musical spectrum. I use them for private listening and also for playing my electric drums and guitar through. So happy with them!
