I bought a pair of these in late August, attracted by the low price and the promise of big sound. Mackie did not fail. I have used these speakers at multiple events I have DJ'd, both indoors and outdoors. They have a crisp sound and with the promised excellent bass. The fact that they're lightweight and easy to carry is a bonus. I am in the process of ordering more. Couldn't be happier!

The Mackie Thump 12, is a reliable speaker. It has a lot of power for a small package, and I've reliably used these speakers for small venues. It's light, compact, and when stored, it's easy to stack these together, if you use the actual Mackie Thump cases (there's a hard piece of plastic in the case, that allows for a stable platform). However, I have had a consistent problems, using these speakers as stage monitors. I have four of these, that I use primarily as stage monitors. My biggest issue is constant feedback at ~250 Hz. I have done my best to eliminate this feedback. I've rung out the monitors, and reduced the graphic eq, and parametric eq, for the monitor channel, to -15db, on my RM32AI, and Benrhinger XR18. Once you actually start pumping the volume on these monitors, it will still feedback at the 250 Hz range. The only solution I've found, is to use the HPF to cut any frequencies below ~200 Hz. Before you purchase, you may want to take a look at some other monitors, that will operate better, at higher volume levels.

awesome speaker

Comments about Mackie Thump12 1000W 12 Powered Loudspeaker:

I bought 4 of these primarily for use as monitors. After getting it all hooked up I realized they have a HUGE sound. Great dynamic response and in-your-face bass response. Definitely good enough to use at smaller venues as PA mains too.

Comments about Mackie Thump12 1000W 12 Powered Loudspeaker:

I play keyboard in a funk band, a classic rock band, and a church band. I had been running my keyboard through my Shure IEM's without running an amp. There were times that I really wanted to have some ambient sound to compete with the guitars and drums. This did the trick.

I am running a Nord Stage 88. I simply connected the Thump to the earphone jack. The first time I used it was NYE. I played on a large stage, with at times, 4 guitars, a bass player, 2 drummers, 3 pieces of brass.

The Thump exceeded my expectations! I had to actually turn the thing down!

Comments about Mackie Thump12 1000W 12 Powered Loudspeaker:

Use in a full time touring band as the keyboard monitoring rig. My rig consists of a Yamaha S70xs, a Kurzweil Forte, and a Yamaha Motif. All of these boards have huge dynamic range and I need to hear that range clearly and loudly. My old monitor system was a separate power amp and EQ and mixer in a 4 space rack powering 2 Mackie c300z cabinets in stereo. The old system was rugged but very heavy and bulky. Bought a pair of the Mackie Thump12's as an alternate setup and have been very pleased, with some caveats. First, these are designed to produce as much bottom end in their class and size. Great for DJ's but useless for sound reinforcement. This is where the built in EQ saves you. If you are using these without and external EQ, then simply use the built in EQ on the back and roll off the lows almost completely. At that point, these really start to shine. Once the amp is not wasting all its energy trying to produce 40Hz, the midrange wakes up! Clear and powerful with amazing detail in the high end. Critical for live audio. Well built, powerful, light weight, and more compact. Multi function input jacks solve lots of problems as well as the 'Thru' jack to send a duplicate of the signal to the PA. Even more powerful if used with a Mixer! Well worth the money.

Comments about Mackie Thump12 1000W 12 Powered Loudspeaker:

At first I plugged a microphone direct to speaker and was disappointed in the lack of volume and clarity, but after connecting to a mixer (unpowered) was really impressed! Plenty of power for small club use as well as keyboard low end response. Thump is a valid description. I just wish these speakers would lean back on angle, but I attempted and they fall over. Still love them.

Comments about Mackie Thump12 1000W 12 Powered Loudspeaker:

I use this with my Positive Grid Bias head. I enjoy the power and the headroom (SPL) which helps with giving more bass and definitions with high gain sims like MESA BOOGIE and whatever DJENT amps you like, as well as the low gain guitar amp models, where getting loud cleans need lots of power. I have been using a Sterling 5" monitor and my various guitar cabs for the guitar amp modeler but the Thump12 offers both an uncolored louder output for the cab sim as well as more Bass. My Sterling is better at highs though. I also like that you can daisy chain this with more XLR/TRS connected powered speakers.

I use this currently at home but I'm sure its plenty loud to gig with a loud drummer or in a small nightclub with a four piece band.

Product is good for the price. The low end does hit well for its size, but lacks a smooth rounded tone that you would find with a higher end 12 ie: QSC. Good starting speaker for a beginning DJ. I don't love the design but the new models look great.

I am please with the sound and would recommend them to anyone.
