The Mackie Thump Series Powered Loudspeakers deliver deep low-end and real power in a lightweight design that is extremely portable. Class-D Fast Recovery amplification pushes unmatched power to the high-frequency compression driver and bass-pounding high-output woofer. Plus, Mackie Active processing, including a precision crossover and driver time-alignment provides total optimization for maximum system efficiency. Versatile by design, Thump loudspeakers feature a user-adjustable 3-band EQ for tone control and, since they can be pole-mounted or used as a wedge, the Thump Series loudspeakers represent the best value available for a complete stage solution.

More than Just a Powered Speaker Cabinet
Sure, Thump loudspeakers have a built-in power amp”in fact, each have two of them. Mackie's Class-D Fast Recovery low-frequency amp drives the woofer more efficiently with less heat byproduct than other speakers. But so much more goes into a Mackie loudspeaker design than just amplifiers. Mackie Active technology (based on the popular SRMv2 Series) divides the frequencies via a precision 2-way crossover and also time aligns the signals so low-frequency and high-frequency signals arrive in sync to every member of your audience. Active compression provides a first line of defense for the drivers and thermal circuitry protects the amplifiers and power supply should things get too hot. All the onboard electronic systems work together dynamically to produce superior quality sound previously unavailable in this price range.

Portability Meets Versatility
For most people, portability is paramount. That's why Thump loudspeakers are ultra-compact and lightweight, especially the TH-12A which is less than two feet tall and weighs in just over 25lbs. For vocal-only scenarios and applications with acoustic instruments that require superior midrange, the TH-12A shines.

Not only are Thump loudspeakers superb PA enclosures, they also make a superior monitor wedge”just lay the cabinet on its side and turn it up. The compact, lightweight design means zero strain, whether mounting it on a high pole or loading up the van. Ultra-wide frequency response makes them ideal as a keyboard, vocal or even bass guitar monitor. Thump loudspeakers have incredibly smooth response and dispersion over a wide range of frequencies, so you can crank 'em up and they still sound smooth and never harsh.

Exceptional Sonic Performance
Thump Series powered loudspeakers put out a tremendous amount of sound for their size and price tag. The 2-way ported design generates ample quantities of chest-pounding bass, and their 1" compression driver ensures smooth, wide dispersion. Mackie even inserted a 3-band equalizer at the input to give you all the tonal control you could ever want, with an available 15dB boost or cut at 80Hz (low shelf), 100Hz to 8kHz (sweepable mids) and 12kHz (high shelf). With their extremely versatile EQ, you can add some extra thump to that kick drum, bring out the sizzle in your hi-hats, add pop to vocals or correct acoustic anomalies in the room.

Protecting Your Investment
Because Mackie knows you demand the most from your speakers, They added some extra circuitry to keep your Thump loudspeakers performing at their best, even when pushed really hard for long periods of time. Each driver has its own transparent compression circuit, which helps protect them from damaging transient peaks. An over-excursion filter, inserted just before the low frequency amplifier, protects the woofer from bottoming-out when the low-end is driven to the maximum. This means you can hit them hard without fear of thermal damage. Mackie knows things can get pretty hot in the real world, so if the electronics do overheat, separate thermal switches activate and shut down the high and/or low frequency amplifiers until they cool down. These safeguards ensure long life and great-sounding loudspeakers you can always count on.

Sound great for the money

By Evan

from atlanta,ga

Comments about Mackie Thump TH-12A 12" Active Loudspeaker:

I've only had these speakers for a week, but so far so good. I work at a music store..and was skeptical of the thump series because several of the TH15A models (The 15 inch version) have had issues or have been returned. Some people saying they didn't like the sound, some saying the tweeters didn't work, and one person brought it back bc it didn't even turn on brand new out of the box. However, the TH12A version works and sounds great so far. I use these for acoustic gigs at the moment... 2 acoustic guitars and 2 vocals. Plenty of low end for 12's, great midrange, and highs cut through as well. I havn't used these for a whole band setup, but I imagine they would hold their own. Good speakers for the money if the SMR450's are out of budget. 4 stars for now...If everything is still working great in 6 months I'll come back and give it 5.

Great Speaker - Great Deal

By Greg

from Kingston, Canada

Comments about Mackie Thump TH-12A 12" Active Loudspeaker:

I have been using these for band rehearsal in the basement and they suit my purposes well and sound great. The bass is present but very easy to control with some eq. They can go pretty loud but I don't usually have them much higher than half way. I listened to the bigger TH 15's in the store but the bass sounded boomy and without definition compared to these. The midrange and low end remind me of their more expensive cousins - the SRM-450's. I think Mackie will sell a boat-load of these puppies and at their price it's hard to go wrong. Go listen to them and you'll hear for yourself. Even in the fairly big PA room at the store, they held their own. When we play out, we'll be using these as stage monitors and they're very light to move around.

Not a durable speaker !

By Darruel A

from Dolton Illinois

Comments about Mackie Thump TH-12A 12" Active Loudspeaker:

I'm a professional free lance DJ. I do club sets and a lot of private yard and home party's. You cannot beat the sound quality of these speakers, The down fall is they are not durable. When I first got them home I plugged them straight into my laptop. one speaker quit within five minutes no power at all. I took it back. I got the speaker that was on display. A week later I DJ a block party the second speaker quit. The woofer went out. If you are going to set these speaker up to play them at a mid level volume these might be the speakers. If you need a durable speaker that your going to blast at a park are a night club, this is not the speaker.

Looks promising

By Richard Topping

from Shrewsbury, MA

Comments about Mackie Thump TH-12A 12" Active Loudspeaker:

Have just used this speaker for one gig (acoustic Irish band) and it worked well. I particularly appreciate the light weight and handy molded carrying handle on the top. Nice balanced sound and plenty of treble with equalization set to neutral.

Give it a chance

By Bryan Avery

from Richland WA

Comments about Mackie Thump TH-12A 12" Active Loudspeaker:

I bought two of these little guys with some hesitation. I heard rumors that Mackie has gone downhill since the home shop in Washington State no longer makes the speakers. I was in the market for some monitors for live performance and was looking for a self-powered speaker for myself and the lead singer. I play in a classic rock band and needed something that would cut through with my vocals yet not cut a hole in my pocket book so I bought two TH12s from GC. Just finished my third gig with these little monsters, outdoor gigs in 90+ degree weather, and they performed beautifully. Give these a shot, you will not be disappointed. Sure you can spend more but you will not find a better bang for your buck.

Comments about Mackie Thump TH-12A 12" Active Loudspeaker:

This is the reason I buy from Guitar Center. If the product does not perform well, you can return it. I bought a pair of these speakers to use with my Yamaha S90XS in a small club. We do not play loud and these speaker couldn't keep up. I cranked up the gain to 75% percent and they started to cutout real bad. I had to quit using them during the first song. I read some bad reviews about these speakers but pretty much ignored them to my peril. Guitar Center took them back, no questions asked. I buy all my gear from Guitar Center.

Super light Super Loud

By Julio

from Los angeles

Comments about Mackie Thump TH-12A 12" Active Loudspeaker:

I just bought a pair and really love the sound quality but my favorite thing is the weight at about 25lbs you can take them anywhere, bought them for back up but now im thinking of making them my primary speakers the only reason i didn't give them a 5 star is the lack of Ins and outs at the back of the speakers a RCA or 1/4inch input would have been nice, you do need a Sub for this if you like more punch the 12s just don't have that deep bass like the 15s, I'm a mobile Dj and and have two different set-ups when compared to my other high end speakers the Mackie Th12A is a good buy

You get what you pay for...

By Matthew Burzon

from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Mackie Thump TH-12A 12" Active Loudspeaker:

I bought 2 of these 12's and 2 matching 15's. I am really frustrated with this product. On day one, right out of the box, one of the speakers wouldn't power on so back to guitar center for a replacement. Good customer service and they replaced it no problem. These speakers have seen less than 25 hours of light use w/ vocals and acoustic guitar. The first live application with a full band and this burning smell starts coming out of one of the 12's with the line level set at 25%. The clipping light was occasionally on at peaks - nowhere near fully on and it should not have been a problem. This speaker is now fried with light use and I need to repair. Really? I spend way to much time repairing these speakers and not enough time using them.

Nice Speaker

By Joel Cosmano

from Havasu Arizona

Comments about Mackie Thump TH-12A 12" Active Loudspeaker:

The only reason I did not give 5 stars is I have not put them to the big test. I hooked them up one by one in the garage. I only had the gain on the back of the speaker up half way, (I never run them past 3/4) but I turned the mixer up all the way and they took the volume great and sounded pretty good. I need to test them with a all day event and put some bass in them for a better test. All in all I like them and would recommend them to anyone that wants to get some. Mackie makes a good product.
