I dont even know how to start, its just great! I needed something that can be mild & heavy when the demand came, and this DELIVERS & then some! You can hear every individual note you hit clearly withought fuzzing or fading, true bypass, the "Bump" literally bumps up what your playing, & its just great! Get it! I compaired it to the OCD & its not a bad pedal, believe me its good too, but this MXR hooked me instantly!

I've been chasing the OD dragon a LONG, LONG TIME, and now I have finally nailed it with this pedal. It is very transparent, smooth and biting at the same time. The bump feature preserves the low end without muddying up the tone. It is very much the Egg McMuffin of overdrives. MXR was very smart encasing it in gold, because that is what the tone is, pure gold! Buy the Pro-Coverage on it, because if anything silly happens to it, you will want a new one! IT IS THAT GOOD!

Last weekend I went into GC with the intention to check this thing out. I'm glad I did!! I've been playing 70's, 80's and 90's cover tunes using my TS-9 or Radial Engineering Hot British. The TS-9 just didn't quite get me there and the HB would take me way over the top. It's way too intense for playing hard rock. Thats where this bad boy comes in to play. I can tone it down to get me close to the TS-9 or I can turn up the drive for a nice crunch. Solos sound great with the TS-9 pushing this thing too. It doesn't get too saturated. Just a nice boost. Needless to say that I replaced Hot British on my board with this. The MXR and the TS-9 give me all I need for hard rock to some of the lighter metal. So if your in the market for a new overdrive, you've got to give this one a try. Luckily for me this was the last one in the store. They're going fast.....

This is an overdrive. Not Distortion! Very warm sounding. Tweaks of the knobs and bump button creates very versatile and different overdrive tones. Sustains for days. Pair it with a dynacomp and you can leave the room and come back in and this thing will still be singing. Also pair it with the MXR '78 distortion and you want believe want happens. Try it. Guaranteed to love it.

Little by little MXR pedals have replaced my Boss Pedals. I am not a big drive distortion user. I play a Telecaster mostly and Les Paul. I have had and tried quite a few overdrives. Man this thing just floored me. If you can't find a drive sound and tone here than I don't know what to tell you. Big, fat, transparent, spiky, you name it. I now have a signature sound.

I went last week looking for a OD for my Marshall JCM 900, Westin ( Fresno CA ) advised me about this Overdrive and it is AMAZING, I can go from blues to Heavy Metal, Oldies, Country, Hard Rock and Death Metal with it, even Jazz!!! And the most IMORTANT I was looking MY TONE MY OWN SIGNATURE SOUND and I FIND IT with this OD!!! you have to get it and make it yours!!

This pedal was exactly what i was looking for. I've owned/tried the following pedals, and they were all not what I was looking for: TS-9 (although the TS9DX was pretty useable in my setup) ZW-44 (great pedal, but wasn't what I wanted. perfect for a solo or more saturation with no color) Green Screamer (have been using until the M77 was purchased) Green Rhino (I wrote a review on that) RAT2 (good pedal, isn't what I needed for current setup - "yes" I know it's a distortion pedal) Pork Loin (not bad, just overkill for me) So what was i looking for? I was looking for an OD pedal that doesn't color your tone too much, but also doesn't rob the low end, as almost ALL overdrive pedals do. I gave the Green Rhino a run before the M77 as it was readily available, but the gain on it was a bit too Class A or farty sounding for me. It was very clippy as the gain went up. Anyway, the M77 so far has been great, as most MXR pedals are. There aren't too many parameters to mess with, and dialing in a great tone didn't take long. I have a single channel amp, so it takes pedals much differently than an amp with a clean channel. This pedal doesn't change your tone at all, unless you use the Bump button, in which case it adds a real nice typical tube screamer hump (although not overdone). It has plenty of output, which actually fell short on my Green Screamer, and ZW44. They had to be dimed to match the volume when deactive/active. The range of the Tone knob is also very apparent. With the previously two mentioned pedals, the tone only changed subtly when turning. My BIGGEST concern and issue I was having, is that all the pedals I was using robbed my low end. With pedals deactive, my amp has a good low resonance. When activating pedals, because of the nature of them, the low got masked, and it was enough to annoy me. With the 100hz knob, it's easy to compensate missing resonance, so that you can have a seamless transition when the pedal is on or off. The pedal also looks awesome. I liked having the green before, but the gold is kind of new and refreshing. Overall, I think MXR really nailed it with this one. It's as if the tech's all ran into the same issues as me. Thank you MXR. If this one didn't work, I didn't know what I was gonna do!

I have an Ibanez TSA15H, which has a tubescreamer built in. Compared to the M77, the tubescreamer is a bit darker and lacks definition IMO. Keep in mind that I usually use these overdrive pedals with the gain down and volume all the way up, in order to drive other distortion pedals or the front of a distorted amp, for tight palm muting tones. Even so, I think the M77 sounds better than the tubescreamer when used on a clean channel. The M77 also has many more features, is very versatile, and is also the same price as the tubescreamer, which makes it a no brainer for me.

As a musician, I've always tried to sound different that ohers. Not so much as something obnoxiously different, but I like to sculp my own tone. I bought this from GC and I am very sattisfied. I've tried a tube screamer and its a good pedal, but it just sounds so generic. I play worship music, but I like to expound into as many genres as possible from jazz, alternative, reggae, classic rock, blues, to progresive rock. I found this pedal and I love it: a good naural sounding overdrive. The best part is True-Bypass. The settings on this pedal are very good, once you find the right blend between the 4 knobs and the boost for your preference on this pedal you will love it.

Have only had this pedal for a few days but wish I had picked it up a while ago. I certainly agree with all of the (positive) reviews I have read and my comments certainly echo those. A lot of overdrives promise what this little "gold beauty" delivers. The simple controls do have a wide ranging effect on the sounds and tones available and if you are looking for "true" overdrive (not distortion) this pedal delivers without fail. All overdrives seem to be made for humbuckers but I have found that this pedal matches up just as well with my single coil Strats - probably because of the 100hz dial. And (as others have also said) it works equally well stacked in front or behind other gain type pedals. For most it probably sounds best when driving an already over driven amp but I also found some great sounds through various clean channels on the amps I use. Certainly worth the price and that said - for my money this product out performs a lot of "boutique" pedals costing many times this amount.

I purchased this pedal about three months ago, and wanted to give myself some playing time before commenting on it. I usually don't review products, but this little pedal has qickly become a favorite of mine, so I felt that I should.

Just to give a reference on what use this pedal for...I play a metal and hardcore punk style music, and play through a Marshall JCM 900 with a Strat fitted with EMGs

I have been using the Ibanez turbo tube screamer for years, just as a boost for leads and such. But recently that pedal has been having some issues making it unreliable for live performances, so I decided to try something different. And I'm glad I did.

This pedal impressed me right away with wide range of tones. But thats what I love most about it. I really love my Marshall tone, and don't want a pedal that will change it. And this one doesn't. If you have it dialed in right, it will give you the boost you need without compromising your amps tone. Or, If you want to change your tone, this pedal has a nice range of solid options. It can do anything from blues, to rock to metal.

I tested it side by side with my tube screamer, and this thing, to me, sounds so much better.
I don't really need much gain out of this pedal, as I run all of it out of my amp. So for me, 1/4 to 1/3 of the way up is plenty. The 100HZ knob is great for dialing in many different tones, but I keep it dialed in to match my amps tone. The bump button is great for some added bottom end which is nice for some of those fast chugging parts. This thing sounds so great, that I now use it for more than just boosting leads.

Bottom line, this pedal rocks!
