I wish I could tell you what I think of this product...

The gap between the head and the rim is completely uneven, and I can't get a simple answer as to whether this is, by design, part of Meinl's tuning system or whether it is a flaw. No other hand drum I own is like this, but then again no other drum I own has this tuning system. It doesn't seem to tune evenly, but how would I know if nobody who should know (Meinl, Musician's Friend) provides real customer service? Maybe it's fine, maybe it's not...I wish I could say!

Can you tune for sound similar to a djembe - and what is the weight of the 14"?
While the MEINL Deep Shell Tar is a frame drum, and the djembe is a goblet-shaped drum, their construction and playing techniques differ significantly. The Tar's design, including its internal tuning system and goat skin head, allows for tonal adjustments, but it may not fully replicate the djembe's distinctive bass and slap tones. The 14" MEINL Deep Shell Tar weighs approximately 2.2 pounds.
