The M-Audio BX studio monitor series is trusted by more musicians and recording professionals than any other. With the BX5 D2, you'll enjoy the utmost accuracy in an engaging listening experience.

M-Audio monitors-number one by design
M-Audio's experienced engineers combine innovative thinking with masterful speaker design and superior craftsmanship, developing monitors that push technology boundaries and outperform the competition. From the high-resolution M-Audio DSM series to the best-selling M-Audio BX series, our monitors provide the perfect monitoring solution to complement your professional setup, project studio or mobile recording rig.

Accurate and enjoyable
Whether you're recording, mixing, or mastering, your monitors are your primary reference source. Accurate monitors let you hear exactly what's happening in your mixes-and give you the assurance that your music will translate well to other listening environments. The M-Audio BX8 D2 monitors leverage a decade of monitor engineering expertise to deliver exceptional transparency and sonic definition-allowing you to enjoy marathon mixing sessions with minimal listening fatigue.

Designed for pros-and beginners
Countless pros use M-Audio studio monitors to produce and mix the music and audio you hear every day. The BX D2 series makes that same design philosophy and technology available to anyone with a passion for great sound. BX8 D2 helps you understand what's in your mix so you can make better decisions about how it will translate across a wide variety of systems-from MP3 earbuds to car stereos to audiophile rigs.

Silk-dome, waveguide-loaded, high-frequency drivers
Our high-frequency domes are made from natural silk to counter the audible ringing that is inherent in the poorly crafted metallic materials often found in other monitors. The high-frequency driver is fully isolated from the rest of the enclosure to ensure minimum distortion, providing ultra-smooth frequency response up to 22 kHz. It also features a built-in waveguide, which offers an expansive sound stage and exceptional imaging.

Kevlar low-frequency drivers
To insure a lifetime of service, we constructed the BX5 D2 monitor's 8" low-frequency driver from woven Kevlar. Kevlar's high mechanical and thermal resilience makes it ideal for use in speaker cones. Our engineers also created a curved conical design that improves room dispersion. High-damping reliable rubber surrounds provide percussive musical bass, and insure that the cone reaches its optimal excursion for accurate reproduction. And our high-temperature voice coils reduce power compression, guaranteeing that your monitors will deliver full performance hour after hour.

Rear-ported cabinet design
The BX8 D2 cabinet is integrally designed with its other components for optimal performance-right down to rounded corners for reduced edge diffraction and superior imaging. The custom rear port is designed to minimize air turbulence and resulting distortion while adding additional low frequency extension.

Bi-amplified efficiency
The Class A/B bi-amplified design dedicates separate power amps to the high and low frequencies-providing ample headroom for even the loudest and most dynamic of mixes. Combined with a finely tuned crossover, the design ensures that each driver only delivers the frequencies that it can reproduce most efficiently, resulting in tonal accuracy and cohesive sound across the entire frequency spectrum.

Find the sweet spot quickly and easily
When monitoring, it's important to sit in the middle position or "sweet spot" between the two speakers-where the stereo image is optimized. BX8 D2 features a pinhole power LED that makes finding the sweet spot easy. You'll know you're in the right listening position when the BX8 D2 power LEDs appear to be brightest.

Background hiss is terrible

By Andrew Parisi

from Seattle

Comments about M-Audio BX8 D2 Studio Monitors:

These monitors would be pretty great if they were quiet. They have a constant background hiss/hum that just kills them. I sent my first pair back to m-audio for warranty repair. They replaced the amps and woofers in each speaker. The repair did not fix the issue at all. It's a serious design flaw that m-audio, in their infinite wisdom, is unable to fix... I'm debating gutting the speakers and just using them as passive monitors, where they might actually sound good.

Great powered speakers with a small issue

By Nick Jacovides

from Somerville, MA

Comments about M-Audio BX8 D2 Studio Monitors:

I compared these speakers with 4 others in the Speaker Room at the Guitar Center. To my ears, these speakers were the sharpest and clearest. I couldn't wait to get them home. Once installed, I noticed a buzz coming from the speakers. I took them back and got another pair. Same issue. After putting my ear on many speakers, I learned that all powered speakers make a slight buzzing sound once you power them. Some are louder than others. I'm in a quiet basement and I can hear this buzz from the next room. I'm disappointed with this issue and don't know if I can tolerate it. I want to praise the staff at the Guitar Center, however; they have offered twice to exchange them for another brand. I think I will take them up on it.

Great Sounding - Issues with product straight out of the box

By M. Kapolka

from Detroit Michigan

Comments about M-Audio BX8 D2 Studio Monitors:

When these speakers work they sound great. I'm exchanging mine today though because of a number of reasons: 1. One speaker is making all kinds of noise intermittently and you cannot stop it once it starts. Sounds like a thunderstorm. 2. The other speaker has the LED indicator misaligned with the hole. As such you need to look into the back of the speaker cabinet vent to see if it is on or not. 3. The speakers are not volume balanced - On speaker is consistently louder than the other, despite my swapping them on channels, confirming sound balance, checking volume level, etc. This is my second set of speakers from M-Audio. I also have a pair of MX-5's and they sound great. I upgraded to these as I wanted a bit more bass response and more power. They are great speakers when they work, but I must say I'm a bit disappointed with their quality of these. Hopefully the new set will be better.

Background Hiss Explained

By gary tang

from Temecula, CA

Comments about M-Audio BX8 D2 Studio Monitors:

If you crank the onboard volume to max on the monitors you WILL get hiss. I leave them about half way up and they are silent and way loud enough to mix or just listen to my Roland XV5050 (rack mounted Fantom). If you want loud for an entertainment system you should probably get a set of PA Cabinets, I have a set and have run the BX8s with the 15" Community PA Cabs and they fill it out well in my tiny home studio which only fits 2 people: one at the drum kit, one at the three tier keyboard rack plus drum mixing rack and small computer table. Plus Guitar Center is blowing these out because AVID no longer owns M-Audio and the new M-Audio is only selling the BX8 as singles. $299 unadvertised floor price! I came into buy a set of reference headphones and got the store's last BX8 D2 instead. I've been in the market for reference monitors for years, this is an unbeatable price! I listened to the 8" Mackies, Yamahas, etc., the BX8 is compatible, but at the price of a 5"!

One of the best sounding monitors I've heard in a while!

By Tadeh Bedrosian

from Pasadena

Comments about M-Audio BX8 D2 Studio Monitors:

I have used 7 different pair of studio monitors; JBL, Mackie, etc.. I have to say, these produce more bass than all of the other monitors I have purchased. The lows are very clean, and have great room disbursement. My room rumbles when I put a little volume to them. I haven't heard bass like this in a long time. All of the producers who have came into my studio have told me that the bass is by far the best responding. The highs are even better. The high frequency range is just insane as far as clarity. You can't find anything in the price range that will even compete. The mid range in really, really good as well. I've heard sounds in music that I've never heard before. I have been using these monitors for a very long time in extreme conditions, and they sound like I just bought them. I promise, you will NOT regret this purchase. Trust me..

Oh wow...

By Eric Rice

from Seattle, Washington

Comments about M-Audio BX8 D2 Studio Monitors:

I bought a pair of these new, and right when I turned them on they were buzzing. I tried using different outlets, no luck. The cables weren't the problem either, they make the sound regardless of being plugged in. I really like these monitors, my friend has a pair of them and they sound great but I've read a lot of people have this problem. I'm going to return them and if it happens again, I'm going with a different brand. Nice try M-audio.

Great speakers

from Pasadena CA

Comments about M-Audio BX8 D2 Studio Monitors:

These monitor speakers sound really good for the price. Very clear and flat without overemphasizing highs and lows. The store had a special so it was cheaper than the advertised online price. I listened to these and other speakers in their recording studio room. For the special price I think it was a good deal.

Wow I'm Impressed...

from Lumberton TX

Comments about M-Audio BX8 D2 Studio Monitors:

I'm playing a small club, 150 people. 4 piece band, R&B and Country. I've tried a Peavey KB300 keyboard amp, it worked pretty good but not real clean. Then I tried powered mixer (Peavey XR8600) with two PVx-15 Enclosures. I was getting a lot of distortion, not a clean reproduction that my Yamaha S90XS is capable of. These Studio Monitors are perfect. Even pushed to 90% volume, they never miss a beat. Strong output with no distortion I pushed them pretty hard for three hours. I have only used them one night but they brought my keyboard to life! I am very pleased so far. Time will tell if they hold up.
