I read a nearly glowing review by T B Wittet about this snare, and decided to take a chance on it -- given its low price. Received it first week of April this year, and since that time, I have got to say this drum has surprised me! It appears quite well put together, the chroming is clean and clear, it is easy to tune (and holds it). And the sound? Crisp and snappy! It sounds, to my ear anyway, as if it could function easily as one's only snare. I've got a bunch of snares to work with, and I find that I use the Supralite more than just about any of the others. It more than lived up to the glowing review mentioned earlier. Give it an audition -- if you can find one!

The drum sounds very good. One thing that bothers me is that this drum is advertised as 1.5 mm thickness. I can assure you that it is not. Another online music store has this correct as 1 mm, and I have verified this as being correct with Ludwig (also the box I received from GC stated is was 1 mm shell). GC is using the false 1.5 mm thickness as a selling point, unfortunately this is not correct so please correct this so others do not make this mistake.

Now I have to drive 30 miles to the store to see if this stripped lug issue can be rectified. I'll have to call ahead to make sure GC has a drum tech working that day as well.

Comments about Ludwig Supralite Snare Drum:

Great sound and projector (had to tune and tweak a little) in a gig setting, the exact sound I/we were hoping for! I've heard of certain issues (tube lugs in particular) after regular use, but so far so good!

        Classic Snare Sound, Killer Overtones!

Comments about Ludwig Supralite Snare Drum:

A classic snare sound. So fun to play. Read a few negative reviews, luckily I read them AFTER I played drum at a GC. If the Supralite sounds bad to you, it's not the drum, it's the tuning!!! I love the overtones of this snare (think Bill Bruford) but the overtones can be managed very simply with moon gels.

Comments about Ludwig Supralite Snare Drum:

I really wanted to love this snare, and it has fantastic tone and range of use, but the hardware is as cheap as it gets. The throwoff loosens your wires after about 15 minutes of solid play and I've had to take the heads off to re-attach washers inside the drum multiple times.

This would be a great drum if you are a soft hitter or ONLY use it in studio.
