By far the easiest interface I have ever used. I was looking for something to record when jamming and found it. Small, clips onto my guitar strap. The gearbox software is pretty cool if you're looking to experiment with different sounds. It does NOT come with recording software, but works perfectly with Audacity. Great product.
This product is amazing! Simple set up straight out of the box. I've been looking a couple of months for an interface to play my guitar along with my MP3's on my computer. Thanks to the reviews on this website I didn't make a mistake and buy any of the other products in the same catagory. Line 6 had the best reviews so when I found the TonePort GX I bought it with confidence. But it has surpassed my expectations. The amps sound sooooooo amazing, MP3 player is perfect and even has a "half speed" button for learning those fast solos. The tuner works great, there's no delay or feedback from hitting your strings to when you hear them through your headphones and the software is very user friendly and easy to navigate. I've already recommended this product to all my friends and the size and plug & play USB if perfect for traveling with your laptop. If your looking for an affordable, simple solution to playing your guitar through your computer then you'll love the TonePort GX.
I am now officially a Line 6 believer! I was looking for something basic so that I could start recording some ideas and putting songs together, but I had no idea what I was getting into here. There are so many things to play around with that I'll probably spend months trying different combinations of effects and amps and such. The software included with the Toneport GX is worth twice the price alone. There's a lot to play around with, but it's organized in a way that makes everything easy to navigate and understand. On top of that, it's upgradeable. From what I can tell, the hardware is very sturdy and reliable. Plus, it looks very cool sitting on my desk. There are no latency issues, which is probably the most irritating thing on the planet, and makes it impossible to play. Everything is right on the money here. Believe me when I tell you this... Buy this thing before they realize what a deal this is and raise the price. The Toneport GX is worth a lot more than what I paid for it, and if you are looking for a way to record your material, this is absolutely the way to go!
I love this product! It is the best thing have bought from line six for this kind of price. However there is one problem whith this recording interface. It doesent record! But the amount of efects is amazing. You can get thousands of dollars worth of effects on here and for 70 Dollars this is the best deal.
I received the Toneport GX as a gift to use with my HP laptop and Custom Strat. The tones from the Gearbox software are awesome. I record into Audacity software and get some great sounds. I like how compact the unit is, doesn't clutter the desk at all. For someone who wants to start computer programing, get this unit. If someone has experience and wants a fun new "toy" to mess around with, get it. I like having access to 100's of artist presets and then being able to save my own.
I would buy this product again, but strongly urge Line 6 to debug their latest Gearbox software- I find that it crashes regularly on me, especially after I tried to enable the VST plugin version in FL Studio 7- only to find out after the fact that they want over $200 to activate a license for the VST plugin version- (which I understood from the product description was supposed to be included.) I love how this thing sounds through my mixer from the line-out, however, I am greatly disappointed that I cannot enable the VST plugin for FL Studio unless I want to shell out some big bucks to buy a license for it- oh well, I guess I will not be using the plugin version- but I am very happy with the lineout monitoring because it gives me zero latency in my hard-disk recording, although I have to use native noise reduction filters in my recording software due to the fact that I use an analog mixer. When I purchase a digital I/O box, that problem should be solved, however... IN the meantime, I'm looking forward to recording with this thing (if I can keep the software from crashing constantly, that is)
This little box is awesome. I use it for practicing and it is really simple to use. It doesn't come with recording software but I downloaded Audacity Software for free and it works great. My favorite feature is the ability to load famous tones. It comes with countless sounds such as Dimebag, Scott Ian, Steve Vai and many more. It actually makes you sound like the famous guitarist you like. Definatly worth the money.
I was looking for something to use so I could get away from plugging my amp into my computer. I was surfing Guitar Center site and I found this. All I can say is wow!! This thing has numerous amount of presets and different styles. I was messing around and I found Angus Young, Joe Satriani and Dokken sounds. I grew up in the 80's so of course I got excited with that sound. (yeah I know kind of corny) Anyways, If you are looking for something to plug into your computer for practicing I think this is the !@#$. Now a few things you should know. I had to mess with things a little. EX. I have a 2.0 ghz with 2GB ram. Well Media player kept cutting out when I brought up the software. The system resources were going nuts. So, I use Realplayer instead so I can jam out with my music. This software will eat system resources!! Have some ram available!! I tweaked some settings and no problems as of yet. Make sure you follow all the instructions and updates ASAP according to Line 6 software. It got a little squirelly until I did all updates. All in all I am happy. Totally perfect for what I am doing. I play in a cover band and was looking for something where I could plug in and get some different sounds and jam out with the music without going through my little practice amp. Would I buy it again? Yeah. For 70 bucks you cant go wrong. I eventually will get some recording software (which this does not have) to record my personal practices on the computer but for now. I would say buy it!!!!!!!
I do a lot of traveling where space/weight is an issue, so the size and self-contained-ness of the TonePort GX appealed to me. I'm running the thing through my laptop and it sounds great whether I'm using my cheap-o external speakers or my headphones. It gives me a highly-portable solution for playing my electric guitar (I use a Traveler Speedster for travel...) while away from home. The range of tones and amp/effects types is incredible for the price. The computer interface is easy to manipulate, though not as responsive as having a footswitch/pedal, but hey...Its a lot of fun and I really couldn't be happier with it--highly recommended.
Don't spend thousands of dollars on pedals and amps. Get a PC or a laptop with speakers, plug in this little gem and rock out to every sound possible. Download Tabs directly from the software, play with every band out there and do it with style! Would give it a 10 stars if they had it. Don't hesitate to buy this product.
I recently picked this piece up and bo am i satisfied. I have been trying to find a way to record my song ideas forever, and i didnt want to spend a fortune on pro tools and other digital interfaces. this is the solution. First of all the price is insane for the quality. It comes with the interface and the gearbox software. with the gearbox im am able to get pretty much any tone i desire. it also good for experimenting with tones. althought it does not come with recorxding software you can get a free download of audacity, which is great for tracking riffs and laying down basics. Over all this is the best solution i have for quick recording. get it before they jack up the price!
My friend has the PODxt live, so I've been playing around with line 6 tone for a while, and when I saw this product on sale I jumped on it right away, so far its been great, the tones sound amazing, the hardware works great and it was super-easy to set up. I'd definitely recommend this product to anyone that loves to experiment with guitar tone.
If you decide to buy this little guy, you've already made a great choice. The sounds that come bundled with it are great to mess around with, and there are thousands more online that you can access right from the included GearBox software. All in all, the interface is great and easy to use. There are only a few things I don't like about it. One is the lack of a 1/4" port to plug into my amp, and second is the lack of ability to play right through your computer speakers without unplugging them from the back of the computer and plugging them into the back of the hardware. The nice thing about it, though, is that there is a standard headphone jack on the back of it, so you can play without disturbing anybody too much. Any way you slice it, this is a great product, and well worth the money.
This thing works great on Windows XP and the GearBox Software is fun to mess around with. I recently built a Windows Vista PC and I couldn't get it to work right. The drivers don't fully support Vista. Great product but if you have Vista, I would avoid computer products all together.
I use a mac, so it is amazing, mac's come with a great recording software called "Garage Band" It is like having a Million dollar recording studio on your desk!!!!!!!!! This works seamlessly with a mac, you just plug it in and hit record. In the tone-port software you can change the guitar fx and change your speaker cabs, along with anything else a band would have on stage!!! If you like, you can change the fx on Garage band, but that is not needed!!!! I definitely recommend getting a Apple Computer if you like music or are creative and are looking for a new computer
I was searching for a simple, affordable way to record for my band and found it in the Line 6 TonePort GX. I got it in the mail, installed the software, plugged it into my USB, and got started with recording (recording software not included). It really is that easy. The tone from all of the models and pre-amps is superior in quality and comes with various presets for Guitar, Bass, and Vocal. I've had no problems with this product since I've bought it. In short: If you're thinking about buying it, DO IT! You won't be dissapointed.
I was looking at getting the UX1 or higher model, but didn't need the separate mic input. If you are looking for a great audio input for your recording needs that gets the job done, buy this product. I have had no problems at all with setting it up, using it with any of my audio applications, or sturdiness.
