The Laney Ironheart IRT60H is a thoroughly modern tube head capable of full on metal tones but offers you far more than other metal oriented amps. It's loaded with a pair of premium TAD 6L6 loaded tubes. The feature packed preamp is laid out logically and features three distinct channels (Clean, Rhythm and Lead). Each channel features passive 3-band EQ with push pull options for Deep, mid shift and treble shift which allows you to dial in the exact tone you are after. The master section features an overall Dynamics control which allows you to vary the interaction of the amp the drivers. Depending on the volume, an overall Tone control, a Laney custom Digital Reverb and a Watts feature allow you to dial the out put of the amp back to a whisper without destroying your tone.

One of the coolest features of the IRT60H is a switchable Pre-Boost facility which functions just like kicking in your favorite boost pedal in front of your amp. This gives your playing more dynamics and feel. The rear panel of the unit features everything you need to connect your outboard gear, a variable level FX loop, a variety of extension speaker sockets and the supplied FS4-IRT footswitch connection socket. You'll also find the switch that gives you the ability to change the output tubes from the factory should you like. Finished in tough black basket weave Tolex with matching front fret and brooding red glow, it looks as good as it sounds.

Comments about Laney IRT60H 60W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Well...This amp is awsome. the cleans are nice and crisp or nice and dark what ever you want....the gain channel is not muddy sounding and it can be acdc gain or metalica gain...i mean this amp will do it all...a very very tight sound with nice bottom end and not mushy at all.. i use the crunch channel for my high gain distortion and the lead channel to boost my leads and i use the pre boost for my clean awsome. over all the amp is very loud or very low how ever you want it...built like a tank...very nice giging amp

Jack of all trades, and master of all

Comments about Laney IRT60H 60W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I purchased this head recently, after getting a used Laney AOR 50 that I had to return due to tube issues. The tl;dr, this head is a beast. All three channels are very usable, and I have yet to get a bad tone out of any of them. I'm running it with the stock 6L6's, but plan on switching them out to EL34's, and I'm currently using a '03 Epi LP Custom loaded with SD '59's, and a Peavey 412 with Sheffields. Clean channel: I had previously used a Peavey Delta Blues 210, so I have high standards for clean channels. This did not disappoint. The clean channel is bright and articulate, but when cranked, goes straight to plexi territory. The tone is comparable to a couple of reissue JTM45 heads I've played. It's very bluesy, and with my 'buckers in the middle out of phase position, can get me very close to vintage Peter Green tones. With the "Watt" channel turned to about 12 o'clock and the clean volume cranked, it gets the power tube melting tone you'd expect from classic rock albums. With the boost engaged, it's like putting a tube screamer in front of it. Rhythm channel: This is where I am 99.9% or the time. I play heavy rock / sludge in the style of Sleep, Mos Generator, Lo Pan, Wo Fat, etc, and the rhythm channel is right in the classic Laney AOR vein I was originally looking for. It's crunchy and articulate, in the 800 realm, but with it's own personality. Lead channel: This is where things get pretty rowdy. The tone here will put you into Crowbar / Down / EHG, LOG, or any modern metal territory quick. For my taste it's got a little too much gain for what I like, but for leads it's perfect. That being said, it does seem like the lead channel would pair well with pickups more in line with EMG's, SD Blackouts, or any of the newer Lace Hemi series. Something that will let the amp scream, while retaining clarity and articulation. It's not mushy like a Rectifier, just gobs and gobs of gain, while retaining a similar tonal quality to the rhythm channel. As far as looks, this head is well sexy. The red LED's and viewable chassis being a very nice touch. The build quality seems durable, with the bonus being the recessed handles on either side, allowing for a more ergonomic lifting of the amp. If I needed to, I would buy the heck our of this amp again.

Comments about Laney IRT60H 60W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Bought this and returned it to GC. It was a shot in the dark for me after listening to youtube vids of it . Mark my words , those guys on the vids are using tone boost pedals and dry pickups to make it sound tight and edgy . They are not. Also its not insane gain unless you use the boost feature ...then it gets you into soldano and old 5150 territory but with some mud and compressed dynamics . I also don't like the tone shift pull pots on the knobs. You dial in a good tone on normal then pull the pots to further tweak it and if you start to lose your good tone you are lost and have to start over . Very lame feature. Also when it was shipped the tube bias was on el34 but it comes stock with 6l6's. Glad i caught that but i bet it was tested ( in china ) by someone who didnt . That can seriously damage the 6l6 tubes and seometimes the amp because el34's run at way higher plate voltage. Its looks built well . The placement of the handles are genius...but the amp is just...ughh. Reminds me of an old marshall dsl a friend had retrofitted with 6l6's . Kinda typical hard rock . Not screaming high gain. Be leery of youtube demos . Some of those people get free amps. pedals and money to push stuff. You have to try before you buy. Now if you are new at guitar and need an affordable head , you might find a used one for 450-500...but for a serious guitarist you may be disappointed...
