I ordered this piece back when it was announced in March 2014. I received the piece 3 months later due to shipping straight from the company. The first thing I noticed was how ridiculously light it was. I am used to heavy gear in my rig so receiving a piece that weights less than a pound (12.6oz) was amazing. Setup was super easy and the rack ears are removable. Once I turned the tuner on I was immediately impressed with the display, It is super bright and the 3D look makes it easy to read at any angle or distance. There are 3 modes on this tuner 1.Standard tuning 2. Full Strobe (Which I am a fan of) 3. Half Strobe. My only complaint is that it is all plastic so if you are not putting it in a rack it could get damaged easily. All in all this piece is worth the money. and at only $100 you would be stupid not to order it.

This thing looks great and works great. Very easy to use and the 3 display setting are pretty cool. It looks good in my rack. Speaking of the rack, there's where it could use some improvement. The rack ears provided with the tuner are snap on basically. You slide them onto tabs on the tuners body and there's a little catch that holds them there, no screws. It wouldn't have added much cost to use metal ears and a few screws to hold them on. When I when to mount this in the rack I could only use either the top or the bottom mounting holes on the tuner's rack ears, their mounting holes didn't line up well enough to use both sets of mounting holes. This was the biggest flaw to me. I don't travel a whole lot with for gigs so it should be fine. It just seems like these issues would have been caught during prototype review or design review.

Either this or a Poly Tune 2 (depending on your setup)

Comments about Korg Pitchblack PRO Rackmount Tuner:

It's a tuner. It's a light show if you want one. It works very well with an extended range bass guitar with quick response down to double digit hertz. As noted, it's quite light so it would not make a good blunt object if you know what I mean. The depth is about one inch so I was able to install a Furman power conditioner on the back of my rack and still had room to put this on the front with just enough space for the wall-wart for this and other items. Inputs on the front and back also make it more flexible.

One star off because I get an annoying pop when I engage the mute button. That doesn't fit my definition of "mute". I can turn of the amp to tune but should not have to when stomp boxes at half the price manage that feature with no issue. That aside, it looks and works great.

Comments about Korg Pitchblack PRO Rackmount Tuner:

I bought this unit to put in my guitar effects rack. There are not many rackmount tuners available, but I've had Korg products in the past, so I figured it was worth a shot.
It's very light duty. The whole case is plastic. =vendors the removable rack ears are plastic. This is not professional quality.

Plastic rack ears, cheap housing, generic wallwart power supply. I wouldn't take this on the road. May be good for a studio, it looks cool. Save yourself the hassle and buy an older korg rack tuner. The older design was more 'pro'.

Comments about Korg Pitchblack PRO Rackmount Tuner:

I only gave this 4 stars cause I've only had it about a week and I don't like the plastic casing. but I would imaging it would cost a bit more if it was metal. It being plastic does not have anything to do with it's function. However, this tuner works great and looks cool. Used it with a 6 string and 7 string guitar. It's accurate. I haven't tested the cable tester, but that's not why I bought this.

When muted, I did notice a slight bleed and could somewhat hear my guitar during practice while tuning but it was low enough that it doesn't bother me. But that may be fixable since I have some minor troubleshooting to do on my rack system (unrelated to the tuner).

A lot of folks comment that this item is made of plastic. Why? It's not a foot pedal. It's meant for a rack or desk top. The plastic is just fine.
I love how large, bright and clear the display is. I'm using it in my studio and no issues with tuning from across the room. My only complaint is the strobe (main reason for purchasing this item). I tune on the attack, not the decay. I find the strobe is jerky. Not as smooth as I expected. I'm now using the regular tuning mode most of the time.
This tuner is accurate to within (+-) 1 cent. That's impressive, but I my return the Korg and pickup the TC Electronic PolyTune 2. Their strobe is accurate to (+-) .1 cent. Much better for studio work.
I wish the PolyTune 2 came in a rack/desktop version. I don't need a foot pedal. I have the original PolyTune on my pedal board and it's very smooth. I hope the new version is the same. If not, I'll keep the Korg.

I needed a new rackmount tuner for my studio because mine was old and becoming a little tired (not all lights coming on). I had borrowed the pitchblack from a friend while doing a small west coast tour and really liked how bright and easy to read the display was so when it was time for a new one the choice was obvious for me. I've had it in my studio for about 1 month now and everyone who comes over comments on how easy it is to read and use. A great tuner for a great price.

Comments about Korg Pitchblack PRO Rackmount Tuner:

Bought as a replacement for an older model, I wanted something that had more contrast as the older one was difficult to see in bright light and especially in sunlight. The PB-05 delivers.. high contrast, attractive color against the black background. Easy to use, sensitive, and multiple functions and displays. I use it rack mounted in a 4 space on my right side facing up tuning a pedal steel.
While I keep a clip on type unit as back up, it's not as sensitive and not as accurate.
