Great buy

Comments about KNA VV-1 Detachable Passive Piezo Pickup for Violin and Viola:

Finally, a decent and affordable pickup for violin/viola. I play the violin with a full worship band (two guitars, drums, bass guitar, and at least three singers) at least once a week. I've always had issues hearing myself and have had complaints that no one in the audience or in the band could hear me. With this pick up, it's perfect. Being on a limited budget I couldn't convince myself to buy a pickup made specifically for a violin since they were at least $200. It seems pretty durable and fits nicely on my violin and is easy to install. It fits right on the violin in the case, no reason to take it off.

Comments about KNA VV-1 Detachable Passive Piezo Pickup for Violin and Viola:

It took a little bit more modification of the bridge to install than I had expected, but still not real major. It sounds pretty good, especially with a little HF roll off for harshness. I haven't tried it with a pre-amp, and I suppose that would improve the sound, but definitely usable in a live situation w/o it. Does need a lot of gain w/o the pre-amp, but much better for feedback than using a mic. Unplugged it doesn't noticeably affect the sound to my ear, so I just leave it on. But it's easy to take off if needed.

Very fragile. Works well. A pain to set up but it works. Good for the money.

Comments about KNA VV-1 Detachable Passive Piezo Pickup for Violin and Viola:

Tried this pickup along with a more expensive competitor out on two violins. The KNA sounded best on both violins with our setup. Happily, we were able to convert a cheap acoustic violin into a nice-sounding electric with this pickup. Everyone that's heard it 'electrified' is impressed!

Comments about KNA VV-1 Detachable Passive Piezo Pickup for Violin and Viola:

        Greetings,
I like this pickup. I had the VV - 2 for almost a year. The one part that is fragile is the transducer that picks up the vibrations from the violin bridge. It's fragile on both the VV 1 and VV 2. It barely fits in the notch on the bridge, and trying to make it fit is how my last one became broken. It's made from a sensor embedded in a thin wooden wafer. I had pro coverage on it, so it was replaced. I opted to not buy VV 2, as its only difference was the volume control knob. If you're playing out or live, you'll probably want to spend the extra 30 bucks for the volume control. If your recording or a basement player, I found it to be unnecessary.
So far as the high ends, I would recommend putting it through an EQ before the amp to dampen the high ends, or use amplification that has treble control. I play mine through my PA, and use the EQ on the PA and get good results. All in all, it was a good buy and works well for the money.
