The only practical yet good option for classical guitar amplification
The Kremona pickup is absolutely wonderful. I used the dean markley piezo for a couple of years and the sound is inconsistent depending on how well the putty is sticking to the guitar. The putty on the soundboard also deadens the sound of the guitar. If you are a serious gigging classical guitarist and own a nice guitar, why would you stick disgusting putty on your guitar anyways? It does leave a mark, no matter what dean markley claims. The kremona pickup on the other hand becomes a beautiful part of your guitar once installed, it does not affect the acoustic sound of your guitar therefore you can just leave it on the guitar forever. When you need it simply plug it in! The tone is also very impressive. I've played it through recording mixers, PA's, acoustic amps and electric guitar amps, and it works marvelously. The pickup itself is very true to sound, so most of your control comes from what you plug it into, which is great because it's very flexible and will sound like your guitar as is, if thats what you are looking for. Many students and even teachers at my previous schools are using this pickup, San Francisco Conservatory of music and Yale School of Music Highly recommended!!

Feedback galore - not recommended
I got this pickup to amplify my classical for live performances, both solo and with a band. I've tried it a handful of times and every time have had problems. First of all, you must keep your amp or PA input extremely quiet or this thing will feedback, which kind of defeats the whole point. Also if you move slightly it will make a horrible popping noise. It also comes unplugged extremely easily. This thing is basically useless for live performance. Just mic your guitar.

I needed to amplify my classical guitar for the gigs I do with my purely acoustic band and this had executed very well! I can now use my favorite guitar in any performing or practice environment.

The pick up was easy to install without any impact to the guitar. The sound is balanced across all strings. The tone is clear and it sounds even better with a little EQ and reverb.
Good with EQ, Natural tone

I actually really appreciate the natural tone of this pickup but there is a good amount of eq required, especially in the lower frequencies. I usually EQ it with a HPF at 120-160hz, remove quite a bit of 700hz, and boost 10k a few decibels. After that it's actually a good natural tone. I have it installed on a Cordoba C10 and think it's a good match there. One slight issue I have with it sometimes is a hum which I think is natural for a pickup designed like this so I don't think it's a defective pickup as the hum only appears when plugged into no grounded equipment but isn't present when plugged into thing slike my fishman loudbox mini charge.

Awesome Sauce !!!

For live performance, this thing is awesome! It easily beats using mics in so many ways. Very natural, accurate and clean sound for a classical guitar. I had it installed in 15 mins with no mods. It fit my 12 hole tie block perfectly! Some said it is fragile, but honestly, unless you are handling your guitar like some burly lumberjack, you'll have no problems. I plug this into a Behringer EQ700 set for 15dB gain and flat response as a poor man's preamp then go straight to the board. It is susceptible to feedback, so pay attention to your orientation to the floor monitors. If live, don't waste money on a high end preamp cuz you'll never hear the quality. You can record with it, but good mics and a good digital interface are better. Live? This device with an EQ700 is awesome sauce!!!

This pickup is dirt cheap but sounds amazing . It's natural woody and warm . As a passive pickup it was not able to drive the PA at church so I now pair it up with a LR bags Gigpro . It cost 3 times as much as the pickup but it's an excellent package . For small amps the passive pickup works Just fine

Will this break when the lid of my case is closed? There is a soft pad in the lid that presses down slightly on the bridge.
This should not break, nosubmitted6 years ago

When installed on my nylon string guitar, will it operate through a guitar effects pedal?
As long as your nylon stringed guitar is a acoustic/electric. Yes it will
