Wonderful pedal. It's a channel strip in a box. EQ, compression, distortion, clean blend, and DI box. Loved it so much on guitar that I bought a second one for bass. #sweepstakes

I recently purchased the pulp n peel v4 - my first JHS pedal, and 7th pedal overall. I read another review on GC and felt I had to share my initial experience to offer another opinion. I lead worship in a church and I am the only guitarist, playing acoustic exclusively. Oh yeah, and we have no sound guy. I've been looking to get a compressor for 2 years now but found nothing I liked or could "hear" with my acoustic. I have a chorus, 2 reverb's, an octave synth pedal, tuner with built-in buffer (I have a very long run), and a looper pedal with extension controller. Although I had heard this was a very "transparent" compressor, I find that to be an optional characteristic. This is the most versatile, clear sounding tone clarifying pedal I've heard I the market today. One use of this pedal that I was impressed with is boosting... Shifting from rhythm to lead (I.e. playing the melody), this can increase your volume but also change you're EQ on the fly (and add a little overdrive if you want), for an interlude lead line. In addition, I have found in just a few minutes that you can dial in a few settings very easily that allow you to really clarify your tone if you like to shift between finger playing and strumming during a song looks I do. Let's just say this... I received some comments on how much better my guitar sounded I the day I started using this pedal - and the only thing I did differently was to add this pedal... you be the judge! I highly recommend this (from an acoustic player's perspective). FYI, I place this second in the chain after the tuner, so I don't use as a DI box (which it certainly can be also).

Ugh. On my quest for the ability to compress this was hands down the worst. Thankfully there are 45 day return guarantees. Adding to the fact the only way to tell it was on way by increasing the volume, the compression doesn't do anything until 75% open. The blend knob isn't needed b/c I can never hear any difference in my signal. This pedal was also a good 1/4 inch taller than the rest of my board. Maybe mine was a fluke, but...I've been told otherwise by those who owned the previous version.
