Overview

Since 1987, musicians all over the world have come to know the playing comfort and unique sound of the Ibanez SR series bass. With 3-band EQ and its newly developed Mid-Frequency Select switch, the Ibanez SR500 bass can produce any sound you require.

The SR500 bass starts with a balanced, contoured mahogany body that's comfortable and resonates well for strong lows and low mids.

The SR500's sleek and strong 5-piece SR4 jatoba/bubinga neck is easy to play with just the right width and radius. The smooth curve and beveled styling of the neck joint will also be appreciated when reaching for high notes.

The SR500 features an easy-access 9V battery box, powering a Bartolini MK1 3-band EQ. The 2 Bartolini MK1 pickups are split-coil designs that provide a very wide frequency range and enhanced definition for maximum accuracy. The neck and bridge pickups have equal response, like traditional single-coils, but without the hum and noise.

Unbeatable for the price

Comments about Ibanez SR500PB 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Was in GC checking out PA cabinets when I saw this beautiful bass from across the room and was drawn to walk over and pick it up. First off, it is extremely light. Lighter than any other bass I have tried to be honest. Secondly, before even plugging it in, I couldn't believe how responsive it was. The action is set for slap heaven, the neck strong and thin and fast, and everything is very bright. The electronics were the icing. Incredible variety of sound available with the Bartolinis with rich harmonics and nice rounded fat lows and clear punchy mids. Can really growl when cranked as well. Have not put it down for even one day since I brought it home. Proud owner since Oct. 2010 and it's just now appearing on the GC website. Was told it is a special GC exclusive from Ibanez. Made in Indonesia. Highly recommended. How's that for a Valentine's love story?!

this is the one that spoke to me!

Comments about Ibanez SR500PB 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I bought this bass after looking at new ones for over a year. I had much more that could be spent, yet this machine just sent me. I have been playing bass since the summer of 1968, and owned many instruments. I tried many other Ibanez?s, 700?s. 800?s, 1200E?s and just simply fell in love with the SR500PB. Not to slam the others, yet this is the one that spoke to me. Was I a Round wound fan, certainly not! The Elixers that it came with may be changing my mind. Darned good strings. Did I have to have active electronics? Passive would have been fine, and was my first choice. All in all this has to be one fine instrument for me to fight my internal instincts that much. It came out of the box set up well, perfectly livable, and playable. The general finish is superior to most in its price range, the neck was/is excellent, and everything worked fine. The fret dress was equal better than most MIM Fenders and equal to some MIA?s I had recently checked out. I did have a lengthy discussion with the Luther at GC, he graduated from the school that I prefer my techs/Luther?s graduate from, and his work is supreme (I inspected some of his work), and he has a spectacular attitude. He did end up touching up the frets, and adjusting everything to my tastes. This was not necessary, yet since this may well be my last new bass, I really wanted it to be as excellent as it could get.

Comments about Ibanez SR500PB 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This if the best thing to get for the money. its light weight. Its easy to play and has a Fast neck. The finish did scare me a little as i was not used to a poly finish. but once you play this bass you start to smile like a kid on Christmas morning.

Comments about Ibanez SR500PB 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Not as much a review of the guitar as a review of how horrible Guitar Center handled selling one to me. If you scour the internet - you will readily see that this is THE best sounding and playing bass with the most horrible finish for under $1k. I purchased this bass online - as GC's site showed it as "In Stock and Ready To Ship". In most of the world that means it is new in the unopened box, sitting in a warehouse ready to be put in a brown truck and sent to me.

In Guitar Center's world - that means that it might be in the warehouse, it might be in the store, it might be a unit that's been demo'ed and played and dropped and scratched by every person who's walked into a GC store. And this is what GC sent me - basically a used demo unit that was scratched and gouged up - my guess is that it had been on the sales floor for at least several months.

I knew from all of the research I had done that the SR500's had a delicate finish. Fully aware of that going in. But when paying full price for an instrument - it should be ME that has the pleasure of giving the instrument the wore in look.

For the approximate hour that I played the instrument before putting it back in the box and returning it - it played awesome. Light, fast and well balanced. Part of me wishes I hadn't sent it back. There are a lot of resources on the internet that show step by step how to disassemble, refinish and reassemble the SR500 so that it will look great with a finish that will last.

But, I shouldn't have to do that with a brand new instrument. If the online listing claimed "Used" or "Demo Unit - slight blemishes", etc and listed it for a discount - then by all means that would be my choice. Shame on you Guitar Center for thinking it is somehow ok to ship used merch and try and pass it for new.

    Great bass

Comments about Ibanez SR500PB 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

So far very impressed. Wide tonal range, compliments my Precision and Pedulla fretless basses. Love the thin neck, frets have no sharp edges, great balance and extremely light. For the money a great bass. Would definitely recommend to other players.

Comments about Ibanez SR500PB 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is amazing! It's ridiculously lightweight but feels solid. The sound is perfect, very bright and crisp. The only downside is the finish, it's definitely susceptible to damage. Even though it came new off the floor, it had a couple slight dings and blemishes. Howver, I love everything about this bass! The PB is the same as the other SR500 but the flat brown burst is a way better color. I can't tell the difference in the poplar burl (hence the PB) from the traditional mahogany. If you're in the market for a new bass, with fancy upgrades, but not the fancy price, the SR500 is the way to go.
