Great value

Comments about Ibanez GSR205SM 5-String Electric Bass:

If you like a five string and you don't want to reach half way across the fretboard just to go two frets down and one string up, this is the bass for you. It has a nice tight neck that makes this bass almost as easy to play as a guitar, a low smooth action makes for fast and easy transition and the sound is perfect straight off the rack. The 205 offers high quality sound and performance at an entry level price that's hard to say no to. I would recommend this bass for anyone.

Comments about Ibanez GSR205SM 5-String Electric Bass:

I bought this product only after the GSR205 in walnut was back-ordered to a date over three months after I ordered it. However, I'm very happy with it. The finish is gorgeous, the pickups sound clear, the neck is fast, the fingerboard is smooth- it's a wonderful bass. However, there is slight fret buzzing, even when tuned to E standard. Not a huge deal, especially when compared to the many pros.

It's a $300 Bass..

Comments about Ibanez GSR205SM 5-String Electric Bass:

Pros: Beautiful Wood Finish (I got the Brown Burst) Pretty decent stock pickups Nice thin Ibanez neck (Not too wide either) Very light Very thin body Decent sustain Good action on mine, another I tried double, but with less buzz obviously. Cons: Just a tad bit neck heavy (not a huge issue) Neck came what I would consider flat as a washboard action, no concave truss adjustment at all (buzzes quite a bit) tuned to D (full step down) I'm a guitar player (no bass guru) and I bought this bass to record some tracks with. It's definitely a good starter bass, and it definitely has the potential to play shows with as well. Tuned to standard tuning this thing is probably at it's ideal. Tuned down more than a step you may have to mess around quite a bit with the neck and intonation, and it still might not work for you. Other than the above I've already recommended it to some of my students interested in bass.

Comments about Ibanez GSR205SM 5-String Electric Bass:

I play in my home studio and record my bass along with mp3's of my favoritie songs, I make videos for self critique and to share with other bass players in my FaceBook bassists group. I recently sold my Ibanez SR755 5 string because I was not thrilled with the B string sound. Now I find the B sounds better to my ear with this bass that costs one third of the SR755...Amazing.

I prefer passive electronics and the GSR205SM with it's Phat EQ give me the best of both worlds or active or passive. With the EQ turned counter clockwise the bass sounds like a passive and as you turn up the EQ the bass responds well and gives me an edge on the sound.

Best of all there is no Floppy B string farty tone. the B sounds more musical.

I want to address the weight of this bass. It is light as a feather especially after playing my Warwick. I can play for extended periods of time without having back pain issues.

As to the statement of other reviewers about this being a great beginner's bass, let me add that in the hands of a seasoned player it sounds and feels as good as you'd want it to sound as well. This bass sounds totally different than my Fenders and Warwick and I find that to be advantageous.

    I would recommend it

Comments about Ibanez GSR205SM 5-String Electric Bass:

Let me go ahead and start with the negative part, which is minimal considering. I purchased this guitar based upon reviews and pricing to match a great product. There are 3 color options for this guitar and i chose the Charcoal Brown Burst. When the product came in it was no where close to what is shown online. I saw another finish in my local store and it is spot on from the image shown online. I think it was Natural Gray Burst. I ended up selling the first one i ordered after a couple of months and re-ordered another one and it came in different than the first one but i do like the finish better on this one. The fretboard even came in a different color tone on the newest one, which i like just fine, and the knobs are different than the first. Not sure where the consistency is on these or where they got the image for the Charcoal Brown Burst at.

Other than that i have to say this is a really nice guitar. It has a smaller diameter neck which is easier to play and the power this thing has is amazing for the price. Lots of adjustment for tone and it looks really nice to boot. Ive only played a couple of years but a guy i know thats played for years in groups played it and was impressed with it. So that alone says something about it. The setup right out of the box is really close and only needs minor adjustments.

I would have given 5 stars except for the finish issue. It plays good, sounds great and looks even better!

Comments about Ibanez GSR205SM 5-String Electric Bass:

I've been playing bass for 28 years, but I've never owned a 5-string. I've owned many Ibanez bass guitars, so I felt confident it would play well, but it exceeded my expectations for the money. Your fingers will glide across the fretboard with ease. No buzzing even on the low B. Takes a minute to get used to playing the E on the second string down, but the pop of the B, is worth the time. Not to mention a much fuller open E due to being closer to the center of the neck. It will change the way you approach playing, and open a whole new world of possibilities. If you are still on the fence about this work of art, jump down, and go buy it already!

Comments about Ibanez GSR205SM 5-String Electric Bass:

I have a short scale Fender Pawn Shop series that I play in church. I find the short scale is easier for me to play, but I really wanted a 5 string. For the price this thing is awesome. It is lighter than my short scale and it's easier to move around the fretboard than I thought it would be. I put some flat wounds on it and couldn't be happier. I didn't give it 5 stars because I've only had it a couple of weeks, so I can't speak for durability as far as electronics.
