I originally picked this up as a present for my nephew for his birthday. He's got a really awful Squire and I wanted to upgrade him. I knew it sounded good at the store, but when I got it home it floored me. I loved it's raw and aggressive sound through my Bugera V22 Infin. It kicked my MIM strat's butt. Not great clean-wize against the strat, but feed it a little distortion or overdrive and boom - tone city. My MIM ran for cover.

So the bad thing I did...I kept the guitar for myself. I know, I know, I'm an awful uncle. But I'm going to go out and get him another one on time for his BD. He just can't have this one. It's mine.

The fit and finish are crazy at this price. Right, the parts are cheap. But they're good enough cheap. I've got no problems. The neck is straight and comfortable, the radius is highly playable whatever it is.

The trem is the classic strat type, 6 screws for pivots, but with the fat modern type intonators. You can't go off on it without getting out of tune of course, but you can warble it all day long for a sweet detune. Another thing about the trem, they got it figured out how long to make the height adjustment screws so you don't get the palm of your hand shredded. Wish my MIM had that feature.

I feel a kind of weird pleasure/distaste with this guitar. It feels good to have snagged this gem so cheap, but it's kind of disappointing knowing my more expensive guitars don't bury it.

Got this for regular practice and jamming, since this is a budget guitar. But the pickup is not so good. The bass knob is particularly very bad and this could be infact defect in my guitar. Bass pickup does not work until you turn it till certain point. And not able to control volume correctly. Thought of returning back but never really got chance to do that.

Point is not very happy with the purchase.

Comments about Ibanez GIO series GRGR120EX Electric Guitar:

If youre considering grabbing this guitar, go ahead and do yourself the favor! Glad I picked this over the grg120bdx. The reverse headstock and inlays were just too cool. This guitar will serve new and experienced players alike, and is easily up to the standards of $400/500 instruments. Dont let the price fool you, It really doesnt get any better than this. made well and plays great. I dont know why there are no reviews of this beauty. Cannot think of any flaws, and pictures seriously dont do this guitar justice. Get it in white :)

Comments about Ibanez GIO series GRGR120EX Electric Guitar:

This guitar is not meant to be played on a clean channel. The sound is horrible, bland, not at all something you should buy this guitar for. But, put it on distortion and it's a complete 180 from bad to good. I'd put this sound with my LTD that has EMG pickups installed, in your face metal. It feels great and looks awesome with the blue paint job. Even the fret inlays look awesome. Even the stock tuners hold the drop tunings well. If you're looking for a great band practice/beat em up guitar this is it right here.

Comments about Ibanez GIO series GRGR120EX Electric Guitar:

Fairly green when it comes to critiquing a guitar, but as a beginning player this guitar blows my Peavy Raptor out of the water. I've wanted a guitar that would make me want to practice more and I have definitely found it! I've always been a fan of Ibanez guitars based on looks and feel, this guitar is no exception in my opinion. Great buy for the money, can't wait to throw some higher end pickups on it.

Comments about Ibanez GIO series GRGR120EX Electric Guitar:

I found one of these in the used section at my local store but it looked new. For the price I decided to take it home because I wanted a 24-fret shred guitar and I didn't have a lot of money to spend. I have always liked Ibanez guitars, but in the past what disappointed me was the nasal sound of the stock pickups. This guitar does not sound nasal at all; the notes (with distortion) are crisp, crunchy and have good harmonics and clarity. The guitar is very easy to play and after a good setup it was very fun to practice techniques like sweeping, legato, etc. that are more difficult on other guitars. I would recommend this guitar to any player who wants a decent sounding fun and easy to play guitar.

Comments about Ibanez GIO series GRGR120EX Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar about a month ago and I gotta say, it's awesome!!!! I'm fairly new to guitar. I started learning back in January on an acoustic and decided to try an electric. So far this has not dissapointed. The guitar not only looks amazing with the sharktooth inlays and its cool shape, but it sounds really good for the price. If you're just aching to have fun, rock out, and play your favorite songs from your favorite bands at an affordable price, this is one of the best guitars out there. It is a pretty versatile guitar as the pickups allow you to play anything from really dirty crunchy tones for metal and hard rock, as well as nice clean tones for other styles like jazz, country, etc. There's obviously better guitars for specific styles of music, but this one is perfect to start off with while you're still a beginner.

Comments about Ibanez GIO series GRGR120EX Electric Guitar:

I've been searching for a electric guitar for a long time that just feels "right" as soon as I pick it up. This Ibanez Gio is definitely the one. The neck shape and feel just works great for me. (i have thick fingers) I'm not interested in playing metal or shredding, I just want to play clean and to me this guitar sounds very good. The pickups for me are fine & I feel that it is a very versatile sounding guitar. The price is amazing, fit and finish is nice. Feels and looks like a mass produced guitar made by a company that really got their production methods down to a science. The white color with the black lettering and trim make this guitar look like it costs hundreds of dollars more, Its a sharp color combination. Buy this guitar if your starting out and take care of it and you'll have a great instrument to start you on your journey. Thank you Ibanez and thanks Guitar Center.
