I know that there are two reviews before mine where this guitar is rated 5 stars? But, my bad experience??. I bought this online with a store pickup. Took the unopened guitar box home and attempted to tune it. All the strings laid flat across the fret board. Maybe I did something wrong? Am I that stupid? So I look at the manual that was in the case and it starts talking about using the Allen wrench (which was also in the package), or have it serviced by the dealer. So I go back to Guitar Center with the guitar. They send me to the guy who does repairs and he starts to do his best to get it in shape. After about 10 minutes I said that it seemed like too much work needed on a brand new guitar and I would like a replacement. So I get the only other one they currently had (the demo). I tried as I might to like the guitar and love it, but the action was so high to play easily. The onboard electronic tuner totally sucked because it was inaccurate which made it useless. The sound was very tinny. Not happy, so I exchanged it for the Alvarez AF66. Excellent tuner. Excellent sound and very good action.

Actually, a 4.5 star - Excellent

By Jack

from Dallas, TX

Comments about Ibanez AEG20II Flamed Sycamore Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this as a replacement guitar for my previous acoustic (cracked internal brace). It is very comfortable to play right out of the box and very attractive to display as well. As with any guitar, I highly recommend playing your specific instrument before leaving the store. There was a difference between the demo and the one I took home. The only negative I had was that the battery was almost dead when I first tried plugging in. I checked and there was not a short in the Fishman electronics, just a dead battery. After replacement, it has been excellent. The tuner, while not as precise as I would prefer, is accurate and good as a quick spot check. Did I mention that it is really comfortable to play? I also appreciate the satin finish on the backside of the neck to make it easier to move up and down the neck. The neck profile is about 1/2 way between a Les Paul and an Ibanez RG120 electric.

Comments about Ibanez AEG20II Flamed Sycamore Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

It would be hard to find a more attractive guitar at this affordable price. Gold keys, pearl and bone inlay. Beautiful both front and back. The sound is very pleasant and stays in tune extremely well. This is a small bodied instrument so don't expect it to have that full projecting sound of a grand auditorium or dreadnought guitar. Another area where it falls short is in off the rack playability, but quite frankly most all guitars do as well. If you do not know how to tune-up an instrument yourself, get it done professionally. I prefer the fastest action I can get which exposes the inconsistencies in fret hight and this one was no where near playable when I first received it. Now it plays as good as it looks.

    great slim size guitar

    By Nori

    from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Ibanez AEG20II Flamed Sycamore Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was looking for something smaller than a common dreadnought guitar, and something slimmer also. It was between this and the Yamaha APX 500, but I found this one to be better and am really happy with it. As with any instrument, I suggest that you go and try it out in the store either - it may not be the best fitting guitar for some people, and remember that it is smaller than most standard acoustics, so it's not going to have much deeper and greater sound, but once you plug it in then that's a moot point. I like it how the end pin and outlet are separate (unlike the APX 500 - think about it, if one or the other breaks, it's better to have it separated). I bought this item in store and had some custom work to lower the bridge a little bit, and the higher frets play well. Along with a great price, I highly recommend this guitar for anyone looking for a guitar in the 300-500 range.

Comments about Ibanez AEG20II Flamed Sycamore Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've owned this guitar for 6 years now and it ended my search for a consistent guitar. This guitar is impossible to knock out of tune and stays in tune even when capo'd (some go flat). The xlr option on this guitar is what sold me on this guitar. As a guitarist in a church band some smaller church's cant support alot of electric gear and instead of utilizing a mic for my amp I just use a xlr mic cord allowing the sound man to control foh volume. Surprisingly loud for a hollow body and has a flawless warm sound when amped.

Comments about Ibanez AEG20II Flamed Sycamore Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I am simply a music enthusiast who loves to write and sing (not for others to hear, usually). This guitar is the right size (I am a small woman), comfortable to play (neck isn't too long), and the sound is beautifully balanced. I was personally concerned with finding a guitar that didn't ring out on the high end too much and I found that with this one. Aside from the beautiful sound and comfortable playability, it is just very beautiful from the head to the body, with its gold hardware for a little extra character. I have only been playing for about a year and fully anticipate this guitar will grow with me! Love it to pieces...in fact I named her 'Lovely'. I haven't plugged in yet, so no comment (yet) on sound quality there.

I do my own setups and this one came out of the box perfect. The buzz free low action on this guitar is exceptional. It would beat a room full of all makes and price points on play-ability. Workmanship and finish are also exceptional. This is the guitar that will sit in the living room for fun. When I can get same guitar in solid wood from Ibanez I will be buying it too. The AE500 looks like it.

Comments about Ibanez AEG20II Flamed Sycamore Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

As a jazz guitar major in college, I consider myself pretty picky about what I play and almost didn't even pick up an ibanez. Prior to this guitar, I'd also had several bad experiences with Guitar Center, so I went in convinced I wasn't going to buy anything but this guitar changed my mind. It's a great size, a good combination of woods (the sycamore sounds great), resonates richly, and the flame is beautiful. As long as you don't use super heavy strings, it stays in tune pretty well and there's no fret buzz. The slim neck and shorter scale make it very playable and still provides the benefits of 21 frets. Of course there are better guitars out there, but I got my money's worth out of it within the first month. I highly recommend this guitar!

I got this guitar as a Christmas gift when I was 12- I'm now 23 and this is still my favorite guitar. It sounds great with both steel and nylon strings, which has been my favorite part as it allows me to change my sound whenever I want. I treated it poorly for a while in high school- dropping it and banging it against stuff occasionally- but it still looks like it did when I took it out of the box.

I'm looking for another guitar now and it has me worried that I'll never find a guitar that I love as much as this one.

Plays, and looks, great. High quality sound, both acoustic and plugged in. Only issue I have is that on the Guitar Center website, the description states it has both 1/4" and xlr connections, but the one I received has only the 1/4"; no xlr. Since the guitar plays exceptionally well, I'm still giving it 5 stars.

Comments about Ibanez AEG20II Flamed Sycamore Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I picked this up as a backup for my other acoustic/electric, and it's perfect. I do recommend trying it at the store, rather than just ordering it. The one in stock at the store was perfect: action was set just right, and the guitar has a nice sound. It's voice is a bit "thin" since it's a slender bodied acoustic, but it was the sound I was looking for. It's nicely balanced, and there's no "dead spots" regardless of where you play it on the neck. Plug it into an amp and it really comes alive; I usually play small venues and use a combo amp for boost, and electronics on this guitar makes it easy to get the sound you want. Whether strumming, running some solo lines or riffs, or finger picking, the action is great. The finish is also dramatic and beautiful. Great guitar!

I own an Ibanez AEG10NII (nylon strings) with a narrower neck than a clasic which I absolutely love. I thought this AEG20II would be great to have as a companion to it. I have not been able to find a single flaw in this guitar! The workmanship is the best. The finish is great although the color of the one I received is nothing like the one pictured on the website. (I like it better) It is a deep rich brown w/the tiger striped sycamore top. It sounds great although not quite as loud as some thicker guitars in its price range. I love the smaller size and thickness that fits me perfectly. The sound with an amp is as good as any guitar in the same price range. The set-up was just like I like it right out of the box (although the strings are noisy and will need to be replaced with some better ones when I get to it. I don't think I could be more pleased!
