I bought a pair of these and have pushed them to a "Light" intermittent Clip for 1-2 hrs straight. They did NOT disappoint. Very good sound. Pushed side-by-side with a pair of JBL PRX518s and a pair of Behringer B1800D PROs. The Harbingers held their own. I would not recommend them for long-term Thumpy "Rap or Hip/Hop" music but they do very well with Thrash/Heavy Metal, Rock, Country and Bluegrass.
Definitely a good purchase. Will go back in December for 2 more . . . One can never have too many toys. :)

I bought two of these I use them for one wedding light music worked out great. I did a sweet 16 burned-out one sub took it back to exchange on my third gig with these I did a hip hop show and they both burned out. I would not recommend them for pro DJ use. They're great for small venues at half volume. If you use these subwoofers at full volume expect to burn them out after a few hours of solid play. They do have lots of bass lots of low end but just make sure you don't EVER let them clip. I felt these were not the subs for my DJ application and decided to take them back and move up to more expensive subwoofers. I've owned the QSC powered 18s and the EV powered 18s and they both by far take on more of a work load. I have ran them hard and put them through years of use and they still work for me. I had High Hopes for these Harbingers and thought at this price I can get 2 subs for the price of 1 well it didn't work out for me. I hope this helps

Comments about Harbinger Vari 18 in. Powered Subwoofer:

I purchased this sub for simple house parties we have with our friends. I travel from house to house with this. I have this 1 sub with 2 Eurolive 12's Speakers. Let me tell you this thing hits HARD!!!!!!! It sounds like you are at a club. Well worth the price. In the old days when I use to DJ you would have to connect an amp to your subs. Now it's built in and I love it. If you are looking for a sub to your system, for sure go for this one. It's amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments about Harbinger Vari 18 in. Powered Subwoofer:

I bought one of this subs around halloween earlier this year. I try it at the store and it sounded pretty good compare to some top brands. The overall sound is really high-quality for the price you are paying. Unlike other harbinger products, the sound quality is much better. If you usually play latin or pop music, I recommend setting your crossover at 90Hz, that way you get a more punchy sound. I usually play this sub with a pair of JBL Eon 315, and they are more than enough for small to medium venues. You also have to keep in mind that even thought this is a great product, if you are looking for higher quality, definitely look more into JBL or QSC. However, if you are like me who usually has a couple gigs a month I totally recommend getting this sub. One is more than enough for venues anywhere from 50 to 75 people, but if you usually play at gives over 100 people, then I definitely encourage getting two.

You won't beat it for the price!

Comments about Harbinger Vari 18 in. Powered Subwoofer:

To preface...I have an older Harbinger sub I bought maybe four years ago, and have been very pleased with it. It's been rock solid and sounds great. The only issue I have had is the output power. It's not that it's weak, it's that I have a monster amp for the mains because I occasionally do an outside event and I had to bump up the input to the sub to get it to keep up. But it sounds great; people were always complementing me on the bass I was kicking out of my system.

I had been wanting to buy a second sub because when my quartet would sing, I would put the single sub in the center, but that was screwing with the recording on my video camera because it was picking up too much sub with it being in the middle. So I wanted two so I could move them to the sides and use as a base for the mains. SO I bought one of these.

Got it in, hooked it up, and quickly found out how much more powerful it is than it's older brother. Wow, I had to set the volume at half to keep it from overriding the older sub. But the new one sounded great; not only louder but fuller than the older sub too.

So, of course, I had to buy another. Ouch!! Luckily, I got them both on sale for $100 off.
I now have them both hooked up and an very pleased!! Plenty of power to easily keep up with all the power I can throw at my mains without smoking them (again), and the sound is great!

The only thing I can fuss about, and others have mentioned this, is the finish. It scrapes off easily and I think these will get ugly quick when I start transporting them. But if they do, I'll sand it off and put some of that bedliner stuff on them. So overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase. I don't think there's anything better without spending a lot more.

Over 35 years in the DJ & SOUND community era. These Harbingers power speaker's & power sub's have made their mark in the sound system's performance hands down BEST in the budget area for all type's of music! I've put together a Harbinger powered speaker system setup and push them too almost cilp levels at several block parties jamming for 5 hour's straight! The only bad thing was the cop's telling us to lower the volume. All due respect to law enforcement but the block party jammed on... Peace ✌

I'm a professional sound man and I purchased this speaker as the bottom end of the drum monitor and the bands I work for are very happy with the sound. The speaker is powerful and the ease of connection makes it compatible with all powered speakers. Works great as front of house subs for the additional low end to really get the party going.

For the price this speaker holds up pretty well, compared to using the jbl918s or the "Thunder-KMT21" k array speakers, i would say on par in quality with k array, not as loud at the vrx.

At first using it i was unimpressed, but after about 10 minutes of heavy use, they warmed right up.

I bought this to run with a QSC KW181 when I need more bass. Let me tell you... I'm impressed. It actually held its own next to my KW181. There is a huge price difference between these two, and it makes me want to sell my QSC and buy a couple more of these. The finish is absolutely terrible. Its almost like sandpaper. Other than that I'm still wanting at least one more!

I purchased the Vari 18 powered subwoofer to compliment my Harbinger V2112 powered tops. After owning the 12 inch tops, I decided to add the subwoofer. I am more than pleased with it's performance and output. Treat it the way it should be, and this subwoofer will serve you well for years. The finish is abrasive and rough, which I can look past . In conclusion, I am pleased to add this subwoofer to my collection.

I have been waiting for a stereo sub-woofer for my keyboard setup. Added this sub-woofer to my 2 Peavey DM 115 bi-amped speakers for a really full sound, especially the low end of the piano! Also fills in the bottom of synth passages. The castors are excellent as they lock the rotation of the wheels in addition to the wheels themselves. I have never seen castors like these before. Sometimes locking the wheels isn't enough as the cabinet will move due to the rotation of the locked castors. With these castors, when the wheels lock, the rotation of the castor itself is locked.

Hey guys I just want to say that these subwoofers are great. I have been in the DJ business since 2000, 2001 and have always dealt with JBL or Cerwin Vega's. I bought 4 of these Harbinger 18 powered subs and they are loud and work fabulous. I heard them at the store and I liked the sound of them, but when I used them at a venue this weekend the were banging. I had to lower my base volume down. I was really impressed. Totally recommend. I sold my Vega Earthquakes to buy the Harbinger's for the compact size to have more room in my DJ trailer. Also for the mobility and easy to carry and set up. I honestly don't miss my Vega's.

Comments about Harbinger Vari 18 in. Powered Subwoofer:

The item received, while made by the same brand, is completely different than the one pictured. I had the same issue with Guitar Center, and apparently the manufacturer has updated their design without updating their pictures.

Which would be fine, except that the interior pocket doesn't have a lid. That's right, any metallic equipment or parts that you keep inside the interior pocket will be bouncing around against the banjo's neck and strings, potentially moving up to the tuning pegs or down to the pot of the banjo.

The other cons are that the new design has only one exterior pocket, not the two pictured, and that it is larger and more guitar shaped than the case pictured.

It still seems like a functional and well made case if you don't keep anything except for the instrument inside, and for $50 may be worth it to you. But you need to update your pictures!
