The Sk1-73 is part of the Sk Stage Keyboard Series, which is among some of the most revolutionary HAMMOND keyboards to date. From the company that invented and perfected the Drawbar/Tonwheel concept in 1934, the HAMMOND Sk1-73 is an ultra-light 73-note keyboard with the essential sound and design elements required by Organists and Synth players. When sometimes 61 keys aren't enough, but the 88-note board is too much, 73 are "just right". And for any Organist, to play "real deal" Hammond on the larger keyboard can be outright liberating and inspiring. In addition to the authentic HAMMOND Tonewheel voices, the Sk1-73's Extravoice Division provides Hi-Def Acoustic Grands, Electric Piano's, Harpsichord, Accordeon, Wind, Brass, Synth and Tuned Percussion voices.
You may play any of the Extravoices "solo" or add them to the Organ voices. The Organ Generator may be switched to provide authentic models of British Vx Organ, Vx Jag.Organ and Italian Farf Combo Organs, all of which can be registered in the original fashion. The fourth Organ mode calls 32 ranks of Genuine Classical ("Church") Pipe Organ voices derived from HAMMOND's Flagship Model 935 Church Organ.
Like all modern Hammonds, the Sk1-73 has deep editing capabilities, allowing voicing (volume/timbre/leakage/motor noise) for each of the 96 Digital Tonewheels, faithfully delivering any Hammond Organ's individual personality, with the ability to save these profiles for instant recall. 12 Factory Digital Tonewheel profiles ranging from "showroom clean" to "road worn" are available for instant personalization. Every facet of the Hammond's sound like Chorus/ Vibrato, Percussion, Key Click and Overdrive are widely adjustable with all settings saved with every preset.
The Pipe Organ voices are also scaling/voicing capable. Their semi-weighted keyboards are designed to feel like a vintage B-3, yet remain comfortable for any pianist, with variable touch "depth". An expandable Voice Library is available free from the Hammond Website. At just under 20 lb. the Sk1-73 can easily be transported from gig to gig, and can also be used as a MIDI Controller, with the ability to address 3 external zones. An Mp3/WAV music player is onboard to play backing tracks, break music, educational aids or any other tunes combined with the Sk's stereo output. You may also direct connect a physical Leslie Speaker via the 8pin dedicated Leslie Jack.

Comments about Hammond Sk1-73 73-Key Digital Stage Keyboard and Organ:
I'm one of those guys that's been around Hammond's and Leslies all my life. Mom & Dad had an M-2 and 125, I learned on them as a toddler. What all this intro means is that I believe I have a pretty good understanding of the Hammond/Leslie duo. I got the SK-1 73 to upgrade my XK-3. I won't say there is absolutely no difference in the tone of the two, but even my trained ear can not discern a big jump in tonal quality. To me, the new SK doesn't have a huge improvement in tone. However, it is far superior to the XK in almost every other way, the most prominent feature being the Leslie simulation, it's tremendous, and this is coming from a die hard Leslie lover. As stated, just about everything on this board is a great improvement over past Hammonds, and I've had a lot of them. The Leslie simulation is good enough that I don't haul around my Motion Sound KBR-3D anymore, I now use a Bose F1 812 powered P.A. speaker, the two sound beautiful together. Oh, I'll still lug a 122 or 145 around once in a while, but rarely, the Leslie sim on this board is that good. I will agree with things one reviewer pointed out, there is alot of unused, unneeded sounds on board, but the ones I really need are pretty good. I didn't have the opportunity to play one of the SK series boards before I bought mine, and was a little worried about the Rhodes sounds. Not, perfect, I have to go to my Yamaha XS for that. But I will say for live performances, it's just fine, I'm not disappointed and I don't think you will be either. Also, as he pointed out, the downloadable sounds from the Hammond library are a joke, there's almost nothing there worth using. Clever marketing on Hammond's part, shame on them.

Comments about Hammond Sk1-73 73-Key Digital Stage Keyboard and Organ:
Great for the B3 enthusiast, but not so much for the rest of the sounds. Hokey clavinet, brass and strings. Lots of wasteful dedication to church organ sounds that no gigging rock musician will ever use. The downloadable sounds from Hammond's website are just OK with nothing that will excite anyone. If it's a portable B3 drawbar organ you are looking for, this fits the bill, but not much else.

Comments about Hammond Sk1-73 73-Key Digital Stage Keyboard and Organ:
This keyboard sounds amazing - im playing the built in Leslie(s) through the Roland KC-550 and it sounds unreal. Better than the original. If your looking for that iconic B-3 sound, this is it.
