A nice guitar - well worth the price

Comments about Guild Starfire IV Hollowbody Archtop Electric Guitar:

I bought the cherry and black Starfire. I very much like the guitar, well worth the price. The Starfire IV is a mahogany wood instrument which is what I was particularly looking for. The pickups sound much more like single-coils - I am especially glad I did not get a brighter sounding wood (not a smooth jazzy tone in the least). The intonation could use a touch-up but the guitar sounded great right out of the box. If you are looking for a semi tone but do not want to spend too much $ this Guild would be something to look in to.

Pretty Shoddy

Comments about Guild Starfire IV Hollowbody Archtop Electric Guitar:

Well, mine had a bad fret job, as in they weren't even close to level & was especially bad past the 12th fret. Then the nut literally fell out of the slot once I removed the strings. Nothing some super glue can't fix but really? Then there's the floating bridge. UGH. Unless you have an exceptionally soft touch expect the entire bridge to slip & shift all the time & when it does you lose your tuning & intonation. I did what others have done & put some double sided tape on the bridge but hardly a difference. It still slips & rocks back & forth so to me it's just an all around bad, unstable design I'd rather not deal with. I found myself spending more time tuning than playing & that was the deal breaker. There's some promise there if they can get quality control in check & do something about that awful bridge. The pickups are decent. Reminds me of a good ol SG. Good feeling neck. Good feel & tone overall. If you find you love this guitar & can't live without it, at the very least you'll need to pay a professional to pin the bridge & level/dress the frets. Considering imports are getting better all the time I was pretty disappointed. I expected more for the money. I could produce a long list of guitars for half the price of the Starfire that outperform it in every conceivable way so would I recommend to a friend? If they pinned this bridge at the factory & tighten up on their quality control, yes. Until then, no. There are just so many other options & this one doesn't stand out in a good way.
