Gretsch Guitars

Description

The Gretsch Streamliner Cat-Eye limited-edition center block double-cut electric guitar delivers exceptional performance, sound and style. Designed for guitarists seeking more than just the ordinary, this stylish semi-hollowbody bursts into the modern era with a voice all its own.

Resonant Tones From a Chambered Maple Body

This guitar's double-cutaway maple body utilizes chambered construction, with a solid center block running through the middle. The result is a lively, resonant voice, with reduced weight for playing comfort. The arched top adds a touch of vintage vibe, while the elegant cat-eye f-holes provide a refined aesthetic. It comes available in two classy finishes—Riviera Blue and Abbey Ale—which highlight the figured maple's beauty.

Smooth Playability With a Comfortable Neck

The Streamliner Cat-Eye has a slim, fast nato neck with a smooth laurel fingerboard. Its soft C profile offers a comfortable feel that facilitates intricate solos and chords up and down the fingerboard. Medium-jumbo frets provide excellent playability. The 12" radius fingerboard will feel familiar to players accustomed to modern electric guitars.

Shape Your Sound With Broad'Tron Pickups and Smart Controls

The Streamliner Cat-Eye guitar comes equipped with a trio of Broad'Tron BT-3S humbucking pickups, providing muscular tone with articulate note separation. Individual volume controls allow you to blend the bridge, rhythm and neck pickups to suit your needs. Master volume and tone knobs offer additional shaping of the guitar's overall voice. The control layout makes it easy to move from glassy cleans to raunchy overdrive.

Expressive Control With a Bigsby B70 Vibrato

This Streamliner model features a Bigsby B70 vibrato tailpiece, providing expressive, nuanced pitch control. From subtle shimmers to dive-bomb effects, the Bigsby expands the guitar's sonic palette. An Adjusto-Matic bridge anchors the strings solidly, keeping tuning stable even under heavy vibrato use. The tailpiece's smooth action makes it easy to add vibrato to chords or single-note runs.

It arrived in a completely playable condition - no fret problems; nice light strings; fretboard was smooth and seemed well treated; no rough fret-ends. With three humbuckers, able to play in every combination, there's a lot of sounds to experiment with. Every position is interesting and pleasing in its own way. Even unplugged it has a nice tone, and it has become my guitar-of-choice when everyone in the house is asleep. (Yes, I have a Mustang Micro but there's something nice about playing quietly, alone, in the dark.) My only complaint is that the pots on all the dials are not great: for about 50% of their travel they do nothing and then have a short, very sensitive range. It makes it really hard to change tone on the fly.

great deal on a super looking and playing Gretsch. Had a Chet Akins country gentleman years ago but this looks unbelievable in comparison and plays and sounds just as good, Everyone who looks at it can't believe it is priced so low. Bixby is as usual a little wonky but Bixby actually recommends heavier gauge strings so currently 11-52 Cobalt's, but it seems to have changed the sound slightly and of course a little harder to bend,

Saw this guitar while shopping for something way more upscale. Tried it out and fell in love. They didnt have a case in the store for it so i ordered it online and saw the abby ale color and ordered that . When i opened the box the guitar is stunning. Plays great and i could find no defects with it. Sounds great plugged in and its perfect for me because i have to use it unplugged sometimes when at rental. Sounds great either way. Not too heavy f÷ls about the same as my telecaster, i would say in the 7-8 lb range. Doesnt dive, bigsby works great, Complaints....the neck is a little thin for my taste but i have large hands. And the tuners are a little cheap but do the job. Making this my new number one. Cant say enough good things about it.

I bought this one to have a new warmer tone with the power of amps to use to grow. It's listed as an almost do everything guitar with a good name. I love the color and the fact it also has an arm to make the strings wave. I'm a newbie and don't know all the terms yet but have enjoyed this guitar and it has extra humbuckers for a total of three, a lot of electric guitars only have two. It is well made and it's an investiment giving options to grow as a guitarist. I'm entering the #sweepstakes in hopes of growing my collection.

  • Yes I've bought several guitars and amps from guitar center

I've admired Gretsch guitars for years, and started really researching the brand. This guitar is perfect for me as a casual intermediate, and the GC sale made it an easy decision! I couldn't be happier with my new Gretsch!!

I am an intermediate acoustic player looking to purchase my first electric. I am not able to visit a music store so will need to purchase online. My first question. Does this guitar (Cat Eye Limited Edition) offer the traditional Gretsch sound? Second question, when switching between neck and bridge pickups what would be the toggle configuration and will the middle pickup produce the same tone in both positions?

    Open Reply - Gear-Support
Short answer: Partially—yes, but with a modern twist. Traditional Gretsch Sound: Gretsch guitars are famous for their: Bright, chimey top end Clear note definition "Tron-style" pickups (like Filter’Trons or Dynasonics) Resonant, semi-hollow or hollow body designs What the Streamliner Cat-Eye Offers: Pickups: This model features Broad'Tron BT-2S humbuckers, which are higher output than traditional Filter’Trons. They provide: A warmer, fuller, and more mid-focused tone Less of the "jangle" and sparkle associated with classic Gretsch pickups More suited for rock, blues, and heavier rhythm work Body Design: The center block design helps reduce feedback and enhances sustain, which is more in line with modern playability than vintage hollow bodies. Verdict: If you're seeking Gretsch character with more power and midrange bite, the Cat-Eye Streamliner is a great option. If you're after the sparkly, airy Gretsch sound of a Chet Atkins or vintage Duo Jet, you may eventually want to explore Electromatic or Professional Collection models with Filter'Trons. 2. Toggle Switch Configuration & Middle Pickup Tone Behavior The Cat-Eye Streamliner is a dual-humbucker guitar with three-way pickup switching. Toggle Switch Positions: Up (Position 1): Neck pickup only — warm, round tone for rhythm and jazz Middle (Position 2): Both pickups active — balanced and wide, good for clean or crunchy chords Down (Position 3): Bridge pickup only — brighter, cutting tone for lead or twangy riffs Middle Position Sound: The middle position on this guitar activates both the neck and bridge pickups in parallel, just like a typical Les Paul. The resulting tone is: Clearer than either pickup alone Not exactly a blend—it has its own character Not identical in both toggle directions (i.e., Position 2 sounds unique, not a repeat of 1 or 3)
