Gretsch Guitars
Description

The Gretsch G9520 Jim Dandy Flat Top acoustic guitar offers musicians a vintage-inspired parlor guitar packed with features for songwriting, practice and performance. Gretsch has reimagined the popular Rex parlor guitars of the 1940s and '50s, updating the Jim Dandy Flat Top's style with a sleek black finish while retaining its classic acoustic sound. Despite its compact size, the Jim Dandy Flat Top produces warm, resonant tones with pronounced bass response that are ideal for fingerpicking or strumming.

Agathis Body Provides Full, Balanced Tone

The Jim Dandy's agathis body creates an acoustic voice with depth and clarity. Its agathis top is braced with an X-brace pattern that allows the top to vibrate freely, resulting in a lively tone with rich overtones. The body's small size helps to focus and project the guitar's sound, giving it a robust voice that belies its diminutive dimensions.

Smooth-Playing Neck and Fingerboard

The Jim Dandy's nato neck has a comfortable C-shaped profile and joins the body at the 12th fret, providing easy access to higher notes. Its rosewood fingerboard has vintage-style frets and pearloid dot inlays for a traditional look. A dual-action truss rod allows players to adjust the neck relief to suit their preferences or compensate for changes in humidity.

Appealing Vintage-Inspired Aesthetics

With its 12-fret parlor-sized body, slotted headstock, and nickel hardware, the Jim Dandy has an undeniably vintage vibe. The guitar's white body binding, rosette, and pickguard provide contrast to its black finish. Open-gear tuners on the Gretsch-branded headstock allow for smooth and accurate tuning. Overall, the Jim Dandy has a sleek and stylish appearance that complements its classic acoustic tone.

I'm finally learning to play !

I've been back & forth for decades messing around with a guitar & quitting before I learned enough to enjoy it! This smaller guitar has made all the difference for me! Love, love it! The second time I picked it up I didn't put it down for hours....can't say enough.

Arrived in subpar condition.

The guitar had corroded and stained frets and strings out of the box. The action was very high at the nut and saddle. The saddle is plastic and has grooves in it from the strings so it will need to be replaced. The overall construction of the instrument seems to be solid, however I would not purchase this item in hindsight. Customer service was no help.

I wanted a parlor sized couch guitar. I wasn't looking for a high end instrument but I was certainly looking for something playable that sounded decent. This guitar not only fit the bill, it exceeds it significantly. Fit and finish are flawless. The action is comfortably low right out of the box and the neck needed no adjustment. I do get a little buzzing and need to give a little TLC to the third fret, but the ends are smooth and are otherwise every bit as good as any of my guitars. With worn in new strings and moderate use so far it's stayed right in tune. On top of all that it sounds great and projects surprisingly well for such a small guitar. Don't tell Gretch, but I would have paid well more than double what I did and still expected to have had to do some work to get it right. Planning on adding a Deltolux pickup at some point soon. Full disclosure, I would have bought the Deltolux version if it had been in the store. But after finding and playing this version, I decided the mini project to add it would be right way to go.

This Gretsch parlor guitar is perfect for sitting around the house and strumming, and I've also used it at small coffee house gigs with no amplification. It has a surprisingly rich and deep tone for its size and is a great addition to any guitar collection!! Buy it!! For the money it can't be beat!!

As expected, the action need attention but overall it is well built. I removed about 1/32 inch from both the nut and saddle; it now plays nicely. I was amazed that it was in tune upon arrival and holds tune quite well. Given how hard it is To find an affordable short scale instrument, this is a great buy.
