Overview

Gretsch is offering a new Candy Apple Red finish to its G2655T Streamliner Center Block Jr. lineup.

The exhilarating G2655T Streamliner Center Block Jr. with Bigsby is designed for three simple things—high gain-friendly performance, slick, easy playability and spectacular style.

The secret to the Streamliner’s sound is twofold—the Broad’Tron humbucking pickup and the spruce center block. Specifically designed for the Streamliner, the high-output Broad’Tron pickup spawns robust lows, pristine highs and a throaty midrange for a unique tone that blends well with other instruments in a band context. A lightweight spruce center block runs the length of the body, reinforcing the top while eliminating undesired feedback for volume-friendly performance on modern stages.

Other fine features include a traditional control layout— neck and bridge pickup volume controls, a master tone control, master volume control and three-way pickup switching, Bigsby-licensed B50 vibrato tailpiece, Adjusto-Matic bridge with anchored base and synthetic bone nut, fast-playing 12 in.-radius rosewood fingerboard with elegant pearloid block inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets, and white-bound neck with a thin “U”-shaped profile.

Boasts classic eye-catching style with vintage-style gold control knobs, F Holes, elegant two-ply white and black body binding, slick-looking nickel hardware, single-ply black pickguard with Gretsch logo and arched laminated maple construction. Case sold separately.

I was looking around at GC Times Square and was initially checking out Fender Strats. As I was about to leave, the Gretsch Streamliner Center Block Jr with Bigsby in cherry red caught my eye. I had never tried a Gretsch before, but, was well aware of their brand and reputation. I sat down with one, plugged it into an Orange amp and tried it out. What I found was a smaller, lighter guitar with a big sound and clear, sharp tone. I first tried using a clear tone and it sounded very sharp with a beautiful, bell like tone in the highs. It also rocked when I used distortion, very reminiscent of Malcom Young of AC/DC. The neck is just the right size and my hands were easily gliding and hitting the pearl inlay frets. The finish is a beautiful cherry red that reminds one of a red automobile of the 1950's, early 1960's. The sound definitely rings of guitars of that era in rock and roll, country and jazz. I actually tried sampling a bit of playing of each, as well as Blues, and was very impressed. It evokes great guitar players such as Chet Atkins, Chuck Berry, George Harrison and Brian Setzer to name a few. This is a beautiful and affordable Gretsch, which Gretsch' traditionally retail for much more than the price of this one. Highly recommend this gorgeous guitar.

I bought this guitar while it was on sale for memorial day. It came promptly, and I must admit it is beautiful. Just what I always wanted. However, it had some disappointments. First, I always heard that a bigsby vibrato will stay in tune. I could not get the guitar to stay in tune when using the vibrato, no matter what I tried. High action, medium action, low action, bow in neck, no bow in neck. Nothing would help,it just wouldn't stay in tune. Possibly it had a cheap set of strings, I don't know. I didn't try changing the strings. Seems like a Gretch would come with a decent set of strings. The strings seemed to be sliding smoothly through the nut and saddles. Also, the frets were small and skinny which I didn't like. I hated to do it, but I took it back, but it was a beautiful guitar.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2655T Streamliner Center Block Jr. with Bigsby:

I was set to buy a G5420T but it was twangier than I expected, too much so for me. I tried nearly every hollow and semi-hollow guitar on the wall and bought this. It was set-up like a dream, low action, just right nut, smooth controls. Now this has bit of the Gretsch twang but not a lot. It's voiced more for a midrange focused tone. A nice raunchy tone on the bridge pickup for dominant lead work. The neck pickup tone is to die for, begging for rich thick lead tones, juicy with lots of sustain. The frets are smaller than I prefer but it doesn't really hold me back. And it's a bit neck heavy. Switching to a wider leather strap solved that problem. But the set-up here is extraordinary for a guitar at any price.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2655T Streamliner Center Block Jr. with Bigsby:

I've been eying a semi-hollow thin line electric for awhile. I tried a few others, but they just didn't get me excited. I grabbed this little beauty from among the rest and bang! What a fun little guitar! I love the sound, it's not a full humbucker sound or a single coil-- it's somewhere in between. I love the appointments, the white (not "cream", i.e. yellow) binding on just about every edge, the bigsby vibrato, and super sparkle glossy finish. It's just a joy to play and at this price point is unbeatable.

From the moment I picked it up at the store, I didn't want any other guitar I was looking at but this one. From the store, it plays well, looks amazing, and sounds great. There is a little buzz, but it is no problem at all. Even better it is $100 cheaper than the other colors!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2655T Streamliner Center Block Jr. with Bigsby:

Great guitar with great tone. Gorgeous candy apple red color. I love that I can play it acoustically while my kids are sleeping and it still sounds amazing while trying to be quiet. Plug it in and it sounds incredible. The broad'tron pick ups still have a little bit of that Gretsch twang, but also dig in when you want them to. Electronics are solid on mine, but I have read some people having problems with their pots either going full on or off. Mine roll on and off like butter.
My only gripe with this guitar is the strap button is on the back of the neck, instead of on the horn, and it's a little headstock heavy which makes it want to dive if you're not holding the neck. I think that maybe a common occurrence with a junior body guitar, but it is a little bit of a bummer. But it's worth it because it feels great in my hands.

This is an excellent guitar for the money. I'm using it primarily for jazz and it sounds just great. The pickups are less twangy than my other Gretsch Electromatic. It has a fatter, more mid-range quality. But if you roll in the bridge pickup, you can get a great rock or blues tone too. It plays like a dream. It really is a sweet little guitar. I've been playing for over 50 years and have picked up a lot of guitars over the years, but this one is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Very nicely made, and perfectly set up right out of the box. All I had to do was tune it. Pickups are strong and silent. Fast neck with great action. Light. Its a bit unbalanced, so the neck dives toward the ground if you just let it hang from the strap, but not a huge problem. Tone is good, but I don't think it's classic gretsch in that regard. The Bigsby is surprisingly stable. No complaints. I got the candy apple red version, as it was on sale. Its pretty, but I think the other colors are better.

Guitar will not stay in tune once you touch the whammy bar. I tuned it then played it over 10 times and within seconds of a fresh tune it is as far as a half step off again.
