Overview

Revitalizing the best elements from the past, the G2622 Streamliner Center Block Double Cutaway bursts into the modern music era with updated sound and style. Brash and feedback-resistant, the sleek G2622 is designed for the guitarist who demands more than the mundane from an instrument: more performance, more style and most importantly, more volume while retaining all you expect from a Gretsch.

The secret to the Streamliners sound is two-fold: the BroadTron humbucking pickup and the spruce center block. Specifically designed by the expert engineers at Gretsch for the Streamliner, the high-output BroadTron pickup spawns robust lows, pristine highs and a throaty midrange for a unique tone that blends well with other instruments in a band context. A lightweight spruce center block runs the length of the body, reinforcing the top while eliminating undesired feedback for volume-friendly performance on rocking stages.

The Streamliner's sonic power is harnessed and shaped by the traditional control layout: neck and bridge pickup volume controls, a master tone control, master volume control and three-way pickup switching. A fast-playing 12-radius rosewood fingerboard with elegant pearloid block inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets sits atop the white-bound neck with a thin U-shaped profileideal for chord work or fiery riffing. Enjoy rock-solid tuning stability courtesy of the stylish Gretsch V stoptail tailpiece, Adjusto-matic bridge with an anchored base and synthetic bone nut.

All the classic eye-catching style youve come to expect from Gretsch is here: vintage-style gold control knobs, F holes, elegant two-ply white and black body binding, slick-looking nickel hardware, single-ply black pickguard with Gretsch logo and arched laminated maple construction.

Nearly impossible to put down once you pick it up and start playing, G2622 Streamliner Center Block Double Cutaway is an updated version of the authentic sound and classic style that has earned Gretsch accolades since the dawn of rock n' roll.

The Gretsch is the most recent addition to my guitar collection including a Gibson J45, Fender HSS Strat, Cordoba C5CE, and Taylor Big Baby. Of these guitars NOTHING sounds better plugged in than the Gretsch 2622. I have a 68' reissue Fender Deluxe Reverb 22W tube and I don't run pedals so I keep it very old school, the Gretsch is far cleaner than the Strat and the pick up variations are spot on. Very clean and classic tone, which even if you run pedals is best to start with. I purchased the guitar without tremolo because playing the 2622 and the 2622T side by side, IMO the 2622 w/ no trem had much better sustain and fuller sound. I searched far and wide for a semi hollow body, and money was not a determining factor. I looked at high ends like Gibsons and all the lower end players including epiphone and ibanes, however, NOTHING even those that dwarfed the price of the Gretsch gave me the same feel. The Gretsch 2622 is truly dialed in. I highly recommend this guitar. If you don't believe me, just check out the other 5 star reviews all over the web. This thing absolutely SMOKES any of its competitors in similar price ranges, and is hard to tell apart from the higher end semis. They are going fast so grab one while you can!

First thoughts out of the box were how nice it looks, the weight is light but not too light. I hate guitars that are so light they feel like toys or so heavy they feel like anchors. This guitar has a nice neck and frets were level and polished. No fret sprouting and I was able to lower the action without any buzz. The neck pickup is powerful, as loud as Seymour Duncan Custom 5 and tons of low end. The neck pickup is completely unusable due to its extremely muddy tone. The middle position was also unusable. This was very disappointing, if you're expecting that Gretsch sparkle, this is the wrong guitar for you. I turned my bright switch on my amp, put bass to 0 and treble to 10 and still a puddle of mud. I added loads of compression and modulation and its almost usable. The pots feel as cheap as any low budget Asian pot I've ever seen so I'm going to do a rewire with 550K pots for Bridge Volume and Master Volume and 1000 pots for Master tone and Neck pickup and see if that helps. If not, I will have to buy new pickups. Very surprised to not see more people complaining about this because I've never heard a guitar this muddy in my life.

If you're looking for a great budget guitar that is versatile and great out the box, this isnt likely the guitar. If you want a jazz guitar with balls or plan on modifying, this is a decent option.

Even though I was disappointed with the tone, it's a beautifully crafted instrument and will be a great mod platform. I plan to hot rod the mud out of this girl. First off I will completely rewire with CTS pots and Switchcraft switch and jack. Right now I plan on keeping the stock pickups, I suspect they are fine and it's more about the pots. I also plan on getting a white pearloid pickguard in lieu of the stock black. (I have the Walnut Stain) put in Grover Tuners, a brass nut and brass bridge. I also will look for some chrome Gretsch knobs to replace the gold blank ones and put on a classic rockabilly style switch on it.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2622 Streamliner Center Block Double Cutaway:

I am a finger picker and very selective on the types of guitars I play in order to capture both low and high tones in the Semi-Hollows with enough volume to not get drowned out by percussion as well as finding the right model to also rock out on, needless to say the right guitar is always a long process. I searched for quite a while and played about every model under $500 narrowing it to an Epiphone ES 335 and WildKat as well as a used Riviera and a Ibanez AMV10...I was about to settle on the 335 when I noticed the Gretsch G2622 Steamliner that had just come in, I plugged in in played a few licks and knew within about 15 seconds this was the one I had been waiting for. I couldn't believe it was under $500, it easily plays like something that costs twice that much or more. the size is perfect, the fit and finish is pleasing and spectacular and just blew away the competition. All my tones are picked up and if I want to really shred it can easily do that without compromise or reverb. I am very impressed with the Gretsch pickups they are easily better than the lower end humbuckers on the Epiphones. The neck glides perfectly and the guitar is just right there as you play without any effort. Plug one in and you'll be amazed, I never right reviews so it obviously impressed me and I am very pleased.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2622 Streamliner Center Block Double Cutaway:

I own about 20 guitars. Everything from PRS (high-end), Gibson 339 & les pauls, Suhr's, Fenders, Godin, John Page, Gretsch & G&Ls. I say this because when I tried an inexpensive guitar at GC it was more of a joke than anything else. The joke was on me. There isn't a better guitar out there for close to what this can do. The playability, tone and construction is over the top for the money period. ANYONE who loves to play should own own one. Gretsch screwed themselves by over delivering on this. Its as good as ANY of them at 1K. Incredibly versatile. Flat out rocks with gain and yet can play some really sweet tones clean. Tone wise its warmer than most Gretsch guitars but in a VERY good way. Get over the price point and buy it. I did and couldn't be happier.

Needed a setup out of the box. G string kept going out of tune. However this is a gem of a guitar, almost plays itself. Wonderful action. Plays anything from crisp and clean to a dirty sound. If you purchase just be planning to have it setup right out of the box.

This guitar does not come with a case or gig bag.But was packed very nice and found nothing wrong or scratched. The body is a little wider than a les paul, maybe thiner too. This guitar is much lighter than my les paul. this guitar weighs in at 7.2lbs my 2012 american tele weighs in at 8lbs.
I play a lot and my daily guitar has been a strat most of my life.I do play a lot of telecaster as well.I have been playing for over 35 years and the guitar plays nice after 2 hours on it.Love the f holes you can plug in or not, sounds good either way.The action was set very nice.Came with 009 gauge strings.I think I may make this my main guitar, for a while anyways.Finish is great on the guitar.I will have to wait and see if it can hold up under my playing.only time will tell. But it is beautiful and a great playing guitar.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2622 Streamliner Center Block Double Cutaway:

I've played acoustic guitar for over 40 years, but finally decided I needed to move into a new genre. Knowing absolutely nothing about electric guitars, I spent some considerable time reading and trying out various instruments. I wanted something I could feel comfortable with, both in sound and playability, and that also addressed my musical backgound and interests, primarily early '50s-'60s rockabilly, R'n'R, Scotty Moore/James Burton/Eddie Cochran stuff. I just kept coming back to this 2622. When I saw the price it really clinched the deal. Sound, finish, comfort... everything was just right. It was good straight out of the box, but I had it set up anyway. My guitar tech (not a GC guy) said there was hardly anything to do: a small neck adjustment and light intonation work. This is a great guitar to start out with, and one I expect I will keep for the rest of my life. Absolutely NO disappointments! Highly recommend!

Although it is made in China, or Indonesia many guitars coming out of those countries are on par with many USA made guitars. First off everything from the Finish to the Electronics are Top Grade. The feel of the neck is perfect for my hands (I have pretty big hands). Playability is great. Tone wise it also excels. I've been playing for 40 years. Have played professionally on stage and in the studio. I have played Gibson ES335's that didn't feel or sound quite as good as this. This guitar is great for both beginner and touring professional..

Great playing guitar straight out of the box. Amazing quality, that "Gretsch sound", but also versatile. This thing can scream if you give it some gain or even hook it up through a blues driver. Love it! Actually also bought it's cousin with the Bigsby. I am a Strat player, but this Gretsch makes for a nice changing things up once in a while.

I primarily bought this thing for clean types, but this thing loves the fuzz. I initially was wow'd by this instrument. Great frets, fretboard, everything. Until I got to the electronics. Master volume tone is OK, but you can forget about the tone pots. It is either all or nothing when it comes to those. And if its that big of a deal, you can get some quality electronics. Overall, great guitar. 4/5. Definitely will come back to Gretsch.
