This Marimbula is a traditional Afro-Cuban hand percussion instrument developed over 100 years ago in the Caribbean-although its roots can be traced back to Africa. The tunable metal keys are played with the hands or mallets to create resonant, bass kalimba-type sounds. Comments about Gon Bops Marimbula:
I First heard this instrument in the cuban genre CHAGUI, and later discovered that this instrument was widely used in early SKA and REGGAE music. If you play bass and want the experience bass in a most beautiful and primitive form then this instrument is for you. I highly recommend checking out some recordings of people jamming on it before you decide to buy one because it may not be the sound your looking for.
