I rarely do reviews but this time it's needed given the state of all thats guitar right now. Tried a 2018 Explorer first, truss rod wouldn't adjust, otherwise great guitar. Next a 2018 Flying V, high E fretted out beyond the 12th fret, otherwise great guitar. Love the V best but decided on an SG after issues. This is at least the 3rd SG since owning an original 1961 LP SG in the early 70s so was hesitant. None were keepers, this one is fantastic, highly recommend if you can get a good one. Maybe got lucky as this is what I consider a 98+ percenter. Only minor issue is the high E starts to fret out with beyond half step bends at the 20th fret. It should break in a bit and clear up or close enough to it. With soft touch there, not as much an issue. Even if I need to deal with it, for 18% off the retail price, it is a fantastic buy and great guitar for the money, I'm impressed. I know Gibson's and their long on and off sordid history but find a 98 percenter and it will be a great purchase.

This guitar has great pickups, a gorgeous finish (Heritage Cherry) and an amazing pedigree. However, its weight is unbalanced, with the neck heavier than the body. Its frets are too high, making lead work difficult. Most disturbingly, when you play a chord lightly, it'll play in tune, but if you push down harder (as one is likely to do, for example, on stage), the chord will go out of tune, with the notes of the strings you're pressing going sharp. As much as I like SGs, I'm not going to play a guitar that won't play in tune.

Light guitar. Best sounding sg I've ever played. Unbelievable good blues tone. Great hard rock. Just puts out so much power.

Was playing a Les Paul. Love the sweet tones. The Les is like wearing a brick around your neck. SG solved this. Same great tones and half the weight. Great action. Love the fret board.

Comments about Gibson SG Standard 2018 Electric Guitar:

Everything about this guitar is great. Like a real sg standard should be. No crazy robo tuners. I feel like Gibson is going in the right direction with their quality. Do yourself a favor and pass right by the discounted 2017's and pick up one of these 2018 models they are great. Also a big thanks to Grant and Hunter at Guitar Center in Bartlett, TN.

Comments about Gibson SG Standard 2018 Electric Guitar:

I recently tried this guitar out at a store in Seattle. I put it down within seconds the QC was so bad. People saying it was the best guitar they've played but walk away with cuts in there fingers. The lacquer build up on the neck was a mess. The frets stabbed you. All around I was not impressed. The guitar felt so light I thought if I set it down the neck would snap. Huge disappointment...

As soon as I took it out of the case and put it in my hands I knew it was the one. I will never need another guitar so long as I have this one. Great tone, great feel, surprisingly lightweight, can't go wrong with ebony. A++++++

I'm very happy with my new 2018 Gibson SG Standard! It plays great and has good tone. Covering some AC/DC never sounded better. I also bought the new 2018 Marshall DSL40CR. It works great with this guitar and my Fender American Professional! Both purchased from Guitar Center. I would purchase this guitar again and recommend to anyone wanting a Gibson electric in an affordable price range.
