The J-45 has been a staple and top-seller for Gibson since its debut in 1942. Renowned for its durability, the stripped-down round shoulder dreadnought design was nicknamed "The Workhorse." Over the years, the J-45 has been a go-to for legends like James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, as well as modern songwriters like Aimee Mann, Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) and James Mercer (The Shins).
This J-45 Studio acoustic/electric guitar pairs a walnut body with a Sitka spruce top. Sitka spruce is the most popular top wood for steel-string acoustic guitars, beloved for both its projection qualities and broad dynamic range. Walnut, on the other hand, is used much more sparingly. Its lively woodgrain adds plenty of visual charm, and sonically offers you a mix of the bell-like ring of maple, dark warmth of rosewood and woody nuances of mahogany. All of this, combined with traditional hand-scalloped X bracing and a nitrocellulose Antique Natural finish, and you've got a solid instrument, especially for fingerpickers.
The J-45 Studio's Advanced Response mahogany neck is outfitted with a walnut fingerboard. The neck design is slimmer, with a flatter fingerboard, making it ideal for electric players transitioning to acoustic. A TUSQ nut and saddle ensures excellent transfer, while Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with kidney buttons keep it in tune longer.
Making it a great choice for gigging performers or singer-songwriters ready to hit the stage, Gibson equipped the J-45 Studio acoustic-electric guitar with an L.R. Baggs VTC soundhole-mounted pickup. With worry-free performance, it gives you discrete, easy-to-use volume and tone controls to dial in your sound.
