Overview

Slightly overwound, with hotter output, the BurstBucker Type 3 works well in the bridge position with a BurstBucker Type 2 in the neck position.
On the shop floor of the original Gibson plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the earliest Gibson "Patent Applied For" humbuckers were wound using imprecise machines, resulting in pickups with varying degrees of output and tone. The BurstBucker line of pickups represents Gibson's drive to recapture the magic of the original "Patent Applied For" humbuckers. First introduced in the early 1990s, the Gibson BurstBucker - Types 1, 2, and 3 - successfully captured the subtle variations of true, classic humbucker tone with historically "unmatched" bobbin windings and Alnico II magnets. They produce an airy, full tone, and when overdriven they achieve a magical distortion with the slightly enhanced highs that made the originals famous. BurstBucker Type 1 features a lower output, excellent for the neck position. BurstBucker Type 2 features medium output, and is perfect for both positions. BurstBucker Type 3 is overwound and hot, which is typically ideal for the bridge position. None of the BurstBuckers are wax potted, and all feature vintage braided two-conductor wiring.

Well-balanced, versatile and articulate pickup

By Neal Gold

Comments about Gibson Burstbucker Type 3 Humbucker PickupDouble Black:

My Epiphone ES-175 already looks like its Gibson icon...now it plays like one. The stock Epi Alnico 2 pickups are really quite fine, but I wanted a neck pickup to open up that huge maple hollow body. This is the first pup whose pole pieces I didn't need to adjust for differences in volume; it's that well-balanced. Wonderful chord clarity (articulation), single notes ring and sing, and lovely warm and crunchy overdrive. Kudos to Nick at GC Glen Burnie for installation and intonation excellence!

Comments about Gibson Burstbucker Type 3 Humbucker PickupDouble Black:

Bought this an the type 2 for my Epiphone. I have a totally new sounding guitar with the Jazzy/Blues Gibson tone I was looking for but couldn't afford. Money well spent, and Oh the guitar center peeps at Brooklyn GC were very accommodating..

Comments about Gibson Burstbucker Type 3 Humbucker PickupDouble Black:

This pickup is wound too hot for being un-waxed. It is too airy and thin sounding with too much bite. The Burstbucker 2's are a much better option if you are looking for this type of sound.
