Picked up a bourbon burst Standard this morning and though I haven't spent a ton of time with it yet I can say that the 2017 Standards are incredible guitars. The new asymmetrical neck and compound radius fretboard have to be played to be appreciated. Probably the most comfortable, smoothest neck I've played.
I initially went to GC to get one of last year's Tradionals that was on clearance. I wasn't planning on spending this kind of money on a Les Paul. One of the sales guys, who I've known for years pulled this Standard out of the box and handed it to me. "Play this while I re-string the Tradional for you" he says. 3 hours later I spent a grand more than I wanted to and left with the 2017 Standard.
If you're in the market for a new Les Paul definitely give one of these a test drive. You won't be disappointed.

I have been playing for 30 years and also had a previous career in the musical instrument sales industry so I know a little bit about guitars. I had been debating for the past few months about adding a Gibson Les Paul back into my stable which include other high end guitars. The Black Friday sale at GC pushed me past the tipping point and I decided to order this Blueberry Burst Standard based on recent feedback that Gibson had ramped up their quality control and were now consistently delivering quality instruments. I'm sorry to report that in my experience nothing could be further from the truth. My guitar arrived in literally unplayable condition. Specifically, the neck was so overly bowed and twisted that it left the strings 1/4" of the fretboard. So much for all the boasting about the fancy processing equipment used to ensure the delivery of a perfectly set up "premium quality" instrument. Also, there is an issue with the lacquer they are using on these guitars that promotes a static charge build-up that you CANNOT get rid of. When you run your hand along the back of the neck (like every time you change neck position) it produces static, crackles, and pops that can be heard very clearly through any amp making this guitar completely worthless for recording or playing live. This has been verified by several other guitar techs I spoke with who are very familiar with this ongoing issue with newer Gibsons so it is not an isolated incident. The bottom line is that it is still a crapshoot when you choose to purchase a Gibson and it just shouldn't be that way. Its sad to say but I honestly believe I would have received a better playing instrument if I had order a $99 Affinity Strat! This guitar will be returned and hopefully I will find an alternative brand that cares more about quality control than living off old nostalgia.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Standard T Electric Guitar:

This is my first Gibson and I was a but reluctant to spend this much as a beginner, but why have to upgrade later on. Not being able to see this new color in person prior to ordering I was also nervous about ordering it sight unseen. I'm glad I did it though, the bourbon burst is beautiful.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Standard T Electric Guitar:

It plays exceptionally well and intonation was very, very close when I plugged it in after I let it acclimate .
It's taking me some time to warm up to the push-pull knob system with the Burstbucker Pro's. The pickups down sound bad, just not what I would call a traditional PAF.

    2017 Standard-Blueberry Burst

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Standard T Electric Guitar:

Guitar Center Delivers again.Thank you for the great service and fast delivery.

Got this most beautiful 2017 Les Paul Blueberry Burst Standard T this week as a 30th Anniversary gift from awesome wife.
The finish is completely perfect, not a single issue anywhere.
Set up was also very good. This guitar is very fresh, the setup was done at the Gibson Nashville factory on December 3 rd 2016. I am playing it on December 22nd 2016,
This is my first Gibson Les Paul. The sustain is over the top awesome.
Love the new options on the push pulls.
The fingerboard is so smooth and the strings bend so easy.
The nut and bridge are perfect. Excellent color.
Love the shape and width of the neck, fast and fun.
Binding on body and neck is perfect.
The Blueberry burst is perfect for a surfer like me who loves the ocean.
The grain match is past perfect on the face. I some how got one that looks as good than any others I had seen on any of the on line retailers sites. However the color is not the most important to me, it is the performance, but heck it's good to have an axe that will most likely turns heads too!
The case fits perfect and is very nice.
I look forward to playing this for many years.
    Thank you Gibson USA

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Standard T Electric Guitar:

I was hesitant to get a Les Paul, due to experiences from years ago remembering them as heavy, detuning easily etc., The quality and tone of the standard are spectacular, the neck is very comfortable and playable, and it has a sustain I did not get from any other instrument so far. I like the traditional model with regular tuners, just seems less complicated, and everything is just right where it needs to be. Gibson made a stunning guitar suitable for any style, purpose and venue.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Standard T Electric Guitar:

I've wanted a Les Paul for 15 years, but could never justify dropping that much on a guitar. I picked up a 2017 Standard a few weeks ago and it is so worth it though. The blueberry burst is so gorgeous I could look at it for hours. I'm playing it through a Marshall tube amp and the sound is incredible. And the feel... I had my reservations about the asymmetrical neck, but it plays like a dream. I've played a fair variety of Fenders and other Gibsons, but this is by far the best feeling, sounding, and looking guitar I've played.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Standard T Electric Guitar:

LP's are a pretty variable. I tried out the 2017 Traditional T (disappointingly dull, muddy bottom end) and at 2018 Standard HP (solid tone, but unnecessarily futuristic. Hate the G Force gizmo). Finally settled on a blemished 2017 Standard T in Honeyburst at a discount and hit it just right. Looks amazing and the tone was spot on. Very articulate and well-balanced. Super clear, punchy voice, great harmonics, appropriate LP growl. Depending on volume, tone and amp settings, the guitar delivers a wide pallette of sound. Maybe it's just the one I got, but it definitely brings an amazing range of options.

Beautiful finish , sounds amazing in any of the modes possible. Comes with scratch plate and fittings in the case , which is also good quality. Action was a bit high out of the box, but still playable. One thing was unfortunate in that the low E tuning peg was not lined up with the other ones and needed to be straightened. I complained and got money refunded.. I was worried about the neck being blocky , but the slim taper neck is a joy to play.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Standard T Electric Guitar:

I've wanted a Gibson Les Paul Standard for some time. After months of looking at reviews and various guitars, I fell in love with a 2017 Blueberry Burst Standard and decided it was time. I had to order online because the local store did not have one. When I called customer service to order, being end of 2017 there was a little hassle trying to find a guitar that was new and not a demo model, but eventually GC customer service rep assured me I'd be receiving a new guitar. When the guitar arrived in a Fender box, I was disappointed that the guitar did not appear to be new, but a demo model. The case was scuffed up and the guitar had some dings and the paint was pulling away from the fretboard. Also, the neck was very sticky... GC did what they could to offer a return and even refunded some money for the guitar. They recommended that I return it in exchange for another guitar, but they didn't have any more in the Blueberry Burst so I opted to send back to Gibson to have the guitar repaired.

The guitar was returned in a couple weeks, and other than by feel, the paint looks good, but it is a little rough where they touched up the paint on the neck. The neck is still very sticky and it has a pronounced static effect that you can hear when you move your hand up and down the neck. Google suggests this a common problem for many guitars but this is disappointing that a guitar that costs this much has so many problems. I have a PRS Custom 24 which cost twice what this guitar cost as well as a used 2008 Schecter Hellraiser that cost half, and the neck is smooth and quiet on both.

I'm giving this 3 stars because the guitar sounds and looks amazing. I had hoped that Gibson quality was better and if not for the top and unique look of this guitar, I'd return it for another.
