Excellent guitar. Perfectly setup right out of the box. The new pickups sound fantastic! The maple neck and poplar body make for a light but well balanced guitar. Has serious sustain and tone isn't overly bright, but very well balanced, despite the maple neck and lightweight body.

Neck has just the right bite to it. Great for blues, dirty blues and classic rock. Gets a bit muddy under high gain, but this isn't a guitar designed for metal. Neck has a great, creamy tone for jazz cleans too. Does a good job of hitting Slash tones through my Blackstar.

Feels Very Cheap

By Mike the Mover

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

This thing feels very cheap as soon as you pick it up. I honestly cant believe that Gibson put its name on this thing. It feels like a $100 no-name guitar. If you are looking for a guitar in this price range, that is decent, and you like Gibson style, go for an Epiphone Les Paul Trad Pro or something like that instead of this thing.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

A bit disappointed that the Firebird Zero is smaller overall that a Firebird. It is shorter and the body is smaller. There was not one on display to look at, I ordered it sight unseen.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

I picked one of these up in store and I honestly am pretty satisfied with it. The size of the guitar is small, very small. The weight of the guitar is very light as well. The finish of the guitar is comparable to a similarly priced Fender IMO.

I had to do a setup on mine when I got it home and it plays like a champ. I like the tone on the Dual Slugs, especially the neck pickup. I play this through a Laney Cub with a Cub 2x12 under it and this does quite well. I have compared the tone on this guitar with some of my other guitars, (2016 Gibson SG Faded, 2017 Gibson M2, 2014 Gibson SGM, 2015 Gibson SG Special, 2004 Fender Showmaster, 2014 Fender Jazzmaster Blacktop HH and a 2015 Gibson Les Paul Studio) and the tone was right in the middle of the pack (Les Paul was tops, Gibson M2 and SGM were the bottom). I do find that it is a bit on the bright side due to the Poplar wood but rolling the tone off slightly on the guitar cures that.

I love the light weight of this guitar as it is very easy on my back. I can easily play this through an hour set with no pain at all.

I like this enough that I am aiming to get one in each of the 8 colors it is being released in. Definitely worth the money but I would encourage you to try one in store before buying one online as it is small and some people will have a big issue with that.

Pick up at a thrifty price, with a few upgrades you have a legit instrument. New hipshot locking tuners, Seymour duncan distortion pickups, and a new bridge or file the bridge saddles.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

First, I have to say that I got one of these on clearance for less than they're selling for used, otherwise, this would not be in the stable. Do NOT compare this to the $1,700 Firebird Studio or the $4,000 Firebird Custom on the wall. It is not that, and it will never be that. I bought this for one reason - it's fun to play, and, if it gets dinged while I'm jamming with friends, who cares? My Les Paul Traditional and my PRS CE 22 get to stay safely at home and saved for important events.

Condition of mine was good, with the neck, frets, and body in good condition. Paint is not great, but acceptable. Setup needed some help, but a minor truss rod adjustment fixed that easily. The bridge is an absolute nightmare. Drop it to the stops, but the bridge rotates forward under string pressure and raises the action. Gibson won't, but they need to replace this or do whatever it takes to get it fixed. I can live with the action being slightly higher than I like, and the guitar is a lot of fun to play. Standing, it's a bit neck heavy, but it's a very light guitar overall. The pickups are brighter and a bit more gritty than the Classic '57s in my LP, but deliver acceptable overall sounds. Again, none of this is of typical Gibson quality, but it can be a fun guitar as a beater or for a new player being introduced to playing.

Love this guitar so much that I bought another!! is now my "signature model" guitar haha
Playing guitar for over 30 years and am amazed how cool this is.
Plan to use the Zero on the new Vortex of Insanity release
and with my other band VOXXTRON
The growl of these pickups when playing power chords is amazing
as the only other guitar I have that does that is my 2012 Gibson Firebird Studio
      which has totally different pickups!
Plays good, looks good and it's a Gibson Made in the U.S.A.
This Gibson Firebird Zero is both wacky and cool and I wish I had 13 of them!

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

I've had my firebird zero for about 3 months now and I love it. All I saw and read before buying it were bad reviews and poor craftsmanship. Maybe mine is an exception but I saw none of the action problems, poor painting, and poor assembly that other people complained about. It is a super light guitar and has a great sound. You cannot beat this deal, a true Gibson for under $500. That's unheard of!
