This guitar showed me how little some people know about guitars. First off, i keep seeing people write "it feels cheap". It's a poplar body which is a very light weight wood, with excellent tonal qualities! Secondly, there is glued on neck with no bolts or plate on the neck joint, which aides in its light weight. Thirdly, the hardware is bare minimal. Tuners, bridge, knobs, input jack, and toggle switch-that's it! Not much metal to deal with on this, but these are the reasons it's light weight.
Playability: truthfully, I was very intrigued with the "Gibson double slug pickups" addition. Gibson factory pups which supposedly were to offer a chunky heavy rock tone, which I am witnessing right now as I'm playing. No feedback, no buzz, no electronics issues!
Lastly, this guitar is visually stunning! You can chose between Pelham blue or black. I bought black, but under the simple black finish, you can still see the wood grain, which is gorgeous!
All in all, this guitar is a fantastic deal! Please do your homework on your guitars inside and out to ensure complete knowledgeability of the product before you type a review and have no reasons to back your accusations up. Thanks.

Coolest looking Melody Maker around

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

I love the Zero. I think most people check it out expecting a Firebird Studio type guitar and are disappointed. This is most definitely Melody Maker DNA here. Really fun n' funky guitar that isn't too precious to take anywhere. The pickups are OK, take a little dialing in for the sweet spot but it's in there. Everything on the guitar works well except for the odd tailpiece choice. An import adjustable stoptail that doesn't sit right and can't be set low enough to take advantage of the great neck on this guitar. A quick swap for an aftermarket "lightning bolt" stoptail and the guitar is a killer. Really light and a blast to gig with!

Awesome guitar for smaller guitar players

Cons

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

This guitar is very comfortable for me to play. I'm a petite female guitarist with very small hands. I've had a baby Taylor acoustic for years and a Squire Tele, but I've struggled to be able to play barre chords on an electric - until now. The Firebird Zero is very comfortable for me to play and it fits my fretting hand perfectly. It sounds fantastic, even with my cheap practice amp.

On the downside, the action was very high and some set-up was required. The overall feel of the guitar is great for me, so I'll probably end up doing some upgrades and may replace the bridge with a better quality one. I adjusted the intonation, but it still goes out of tune too often.

I was this close...

By Ben

from Los Angeles

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

I was really hot on getting one of these when I first saw them... I went to a couple of GCs looking to see them in person before buying one.

First, the body is smaller and thinner than a normal Firebird. That was kind of a deal breaker for me. While I commend Gibson for taking a chance on making a "budget" line of USA-made guitars, this one just falls short. For almost the same money, you can find used Gibson Les Paul Studios.

The hardware is not great, but I will say this, the pickups do sound good and it plays good enough.

This is definitely a "beginner" Gibson model (which is what Epiphone is supposed to be). I would think that a young player looking for their first or second "real" guitar (upgrading from a sub-$300 guitar), would love one of these. This is probably what Gibson had in mind for these. Also, they score some bonus points for going with an unusual body style that you don't see every day.

Overall, the guitar is not horrible. I hope that Gibson learns from these and makes some tweaks based on customer feedback

Can you say "garbage"?

By Rick Rice

from Sierra Vista, AZ

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

I had high hopes for this product. Those hopes were dashed after only a cursory inspection. The action was high. The intonation was way off. Pickups are just so-so. The gigbag was the nicest thing about this order. Do yourself a favor and avoid this "instrument". I have a bottom line Squier Tele that blows this piece of garbage away.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

This guitar is sounds good and everything, but its the only reason I would buy it. Its uncomfortable to sit down with, I recommend performing standing up. I do want to include that the tone is great, I tried many guitars and this guitar sounds better than a prs se custom which are like around $750, but those can come with 24 frets and a tremolo system, which too bad many gibsons like this are just 22 frets with no trem. My point is the way it sounds is the only reason I would buy it.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

Can you believe it, a Gibson at such a great value. I received my Firebird Zero today and am really impressed with this guitar. Very comfortable to play and sounds pretty good. It has a very bright tone that is clear and crisp. If you crank the volume knob up it gets very gritty and nice. The pickup selector switch is a little has a little scratchy noise but it could be shelf dust. Over all, Love this guitar, cant beat the value of this guitar.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero Electric Guitar:

Take some of these reviews with a grain of salt.
People make it sound like this guitar is almost unplayable. This is not my experience... not at all.
I picked this guitar up to noodle around with while waiting for a friend at guitar center. I was intrigued by the tag that said it is an american made Gibson, and was at a closeout price.
Just noodling around, I decided that I like this neck more than any Gibson that I have ever tried. It has a slightly wide feel, but is not deep at all. I'm not sure if that is called a shallow "C". The neck is satin rather than a gloss. This has always been my preference. I feel like sometimes gloss feels weird on my hands when they get sweaty.
The frets felt just perfect, no edges. With the scale length and the decent sized smooth frets, this guitar bends really easily and just plays like a dream.

    The Tone
I figured that at this price, it would have some terrible sounding pickups and I would be turned off once I plugged it in. I couldn't have been more wrong. I know that sound quality is totally subjective, but these pickups have a really cool "throaty" feel to them. I personally don't play anything on a clean setting, so I can't speak to their clean tone; but when I plugged them into the same amp that I use in the store, I was overwhelmed with the tone that came out. It is full, and the pickups are obviously pretty high output. I like to play classic rock, hard rock and grunge and I was amazed at the fact that the tone was more pleasing to me than either of my current favorite guitars that I own. The tone just suits me and my style. The bridge pickup does not sound thin or fizzy at all, it sounds full and meaty. The neck pickup has a more round tone but also gives some great dirt.

    About those Bad Reviews
Go try one. The one that I purchased has the action just how I like it, plays like a dream, and sounds as good (to me) as anything that I have tried. At this price, even if you need to make a mod or two, it is a great deal!
