Overview

The 2016 SG Faded T is offered this year with powerful pickups and time-tested hardware. This is a guitar that any SG fan would love to own. It comes in a choice of worn satin nitro finishes, all beautifully faded for a timeless look. The construction uses the same materials as its predecessor of 50 years ago with a solid mahogany body and set mahogany neck.

The neck marks the return to Gibson' traditional neck width that players prefer, using a self-lubricating Graph Tech nut for better sustain and improved intonation. The rosewood fingerboard is thicker than last year', offering a more solid playing feel, traditional tone and better sustain. Electronics feature Alnico-powered 490R (neck) and 490T (bridge) pickups that produce everything from warmth to sizzling leads.

Chrome hardware includes a tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece, and traditional manual tuners that add a vintage note, but with performance that is smooth and efficient. The 2016 SG Faded Series T comes setup by factory experts and includes a padded gig bag.

Key features
The vintage tuner vibe with smooth, efficient performance
Retains the celebrated feel of the SG's lightning-fast neck
Density for solid sustain, self-lubrication for accurate return-to-pitch after bending - without string stick

Guard your guitar with padded protection
Subtle inlay elegance matches the guitar's essence
From purring warmth to sizzling leads, the Alnico-powered 490R (neck) and 490T (bridge) pickups deliver true tone
Traditional tone, solid playing feel, and more sustain than ever
Expert setup makes this handcrafted, American-made guitar ready for immediate action

Retired my '79 'THE "SG"' Walnut/Ebony 'SG' recently after having it rewired and wanted the classic Mahagony/Rosewood 'SG' and this was on an 'IN-STORE' only Memorial Day sale @ GC and I GRABBED IT IMMDEAITELY. I had my eye on it for a while and just happened to go into the store the day it was on sale, at an unbelievably GREAT price. The action is a little high and I swapped the 46-10's on it for some super-slinky's, 42-09's and the high E was hitting the 1st fret. I brought it back to GC and after a quick truss rod adjustment the guitar was still intonated and ready for action. This guitar is ALMOST as good as the STANDARD 'SG', the salesman thought there was no difference in the tone of both guitars but there is. I played each through the same Fender Amp and it was really close, but there is a difference. However it is not enough of a differnce (its actually very slight) to warrant a doubling in price+ for the STANDARD 'SG'. The only drawback is there is no hard shell case. My chainsaw HSC FROM MY '79 will do the job from my other 'SG' if it has to go outside of my home but that will be a rare occassion.
This SPECIAL T Faded Cherry 'SG' is a great every day player. The Lead pickup is really bright and has a sharp sound for leads and the rythm pickup has the classic Gibson 'ZOO' sound on slides and fat rythm playing. The middle position adds a little color to the fatness and is a desirable position for most rhythm playing.
I got a GREAT DEAL on a CLASSIC GUITAR and am real glad I stopped into GC that specific day as I was ready to go for the regular retail price on this guitar anyway so I just ended up saving $200 on a GREAT Guitar.THANKS Guitar Center, YOU ROCK.

Beautiful guitar, sounds great. I added pick up covers, really helped sound. Had to do a major setup job on this one, not setup from factory like add said. The neck was set too high,so bridge and tailpiece is jacked up little too high for my taste. Other than that, plays good.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Faded Series T Electric Guitar:

Got a coupon at GC, so this was a sweet deal. Ordered a separate hardship case. Love the look and feel of this. Had the standard black SG, but for some reason I didnt grow attached to it. The feel of an unfinished neck does it for me.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Faded Series T Electric Guitar:

My other electric guitars are Fenders, but I've always wanted an SG and this one looked promising, so I went for it. I am really pleased with it. A lot lighter than a Strat (although the neck's a little heavier than the body, apparently, so you have to hold it), and it sounds nice through my little tube amp. While it's a bit of a learning curve adjusting to the different headstock and a bridge that falls off when you change strings, I've become pretty attached to this little guitar.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Faded Series T Electric Guitar:

I started looking to buy an 'SG Standard'....and this one caught my eye on GIBSON's web-site.I was in Philly so I strolled into GC in Langhorne, Pa. to take a look at it and , SURPRISE, it was on a 'One day In-Store' only Memorial Day sale, WOW!!! The deal that I got was unreal !! I grabbed it immediately and compared the sound of this 2016 'Special T Faded Cherry "SG"' to the 2016 '"SG" Standard' and although the sales people thought there was no difference ,there is....but it is so slight as to not justify the price of the "SG" Standard'. So, for the deal I was getting, I could not walk away from this 2016 "SG Special T Faded Cherry' and bought it on the spot...at first sight.
This Guitar is light , but make no mistake, has a heavy-weight sound...it is almost unbelievable. The P495R and P490T pickups give it a FAT Rhythm sound and a really crisp and sharp Lead tone. It has replaced my '94 'NIGHTHAWK' as my everyday playing Guitar.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Faded Series T Electric Guitar:

I bought mine in the Lancaster, PA. Guitar Center. I went to the store looking for a PA system and left with this.

The setup was perfect on this guitar. The guitar tech there must have touched it because it was spot on, the best SG I have ever played from an action perspective ( I have owned 8 Gibson SGs, currently have 6). I love the weight and the sound. I am a big Weezer fan and down tuned a half step, it totally nails it. The 490s sound awesome in this. I play through a Line 6 HD500X and a Blackstar HT60 Soloist. That rig with this guitar is total bliss in my home studio.

Try this before you buy it. Mine is a dream to play because it has a perfect setup for me.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Faded Series T Electric Guitar:

First off, if you're looking for a Gibson, this is a great deal. Especially for an SG. I personally don't like the look of the standard with the big block inlays and prefer uncovered humbuckers so this was less money for something I liked more. Also the faded nitro gloss finish is supposed to be cheaper but I really prefer the feel of it. I'm probably just imagining things as many guitarists do, but I feel closer to the wood with this finish and feel like the guitar can breath and resonate more. Take that for what you will. I went to his from playing a fender strat and the glue on neck really makes a difference. It feels like a more complete guitar and the tone is a bit better. Sustain is also better especially playing clean. This has tall narrow frets that help with bending and are optimal for thick strings. Out of the box it played great but the 9-46 set needs changing. The top 3 strings don't have enough bottom end so I got some thicker ones (I also like the playing feel of thicker strings) and that solved the time problem. But that's also just to my ears and preference. All in all would recommend.

I am a drummer who just started to learn guitar. I have a Fender acoustic/electric, a road worn tele and now the sg.
The sg has a perfect feel to me, the neck, the thin body, it sounds great without being plugged in, and great when it is. It seemed setup pretty good out of the box, and it came in a decent padded gig bag, but I bought a hard case for it anyway.
It stays in tune, and it feels much better than the tele does.
What little I know is..... I love the sg .
