Comments about Gibson 2016 Les Paul Studio HP Electric Guitar:

I purchased the 2016 LP Studio HP in vintage sunburst and I am truly thrilled with it. Its one of the best looking and feeling LP's I have played. I told myself I would never buy an instrument again without playing it first because I am very particular about the look, feel, and tone etc.
While I was waiting for the guitar to arrive, I went amp shopping at a local Guitar Center and grabbed an LP Studio off the wall for a sound test. I left that day with a sick feeling in my stomach and was certain I would be sending my guitar right back the minute it arrived. The two LP studio's at the store were brand new, but one had a knob missing and both looked like $300 guitars at best. Their finishes were terrible, felt lousy, and overall I was convinced that Gibson had fallen as a brand with no quality control.
The Fender American's were obviously higher quality, you could see it from across the room. I could have bought a far better looking, feeling, and sounding Fender for at least $500 less. I was not happy at all.
When my LP arrived and as soon as I opened it I felt 100% better!
It looks Fantastic! The second I picked it up I KNEW it was a keeper!
I LOVE the neck width and profile, It's truly the nicest LP I have ever played just because of that alone.
The inlays on the fretboard are REAL abalone, not sure if Guitar Center website says that, but Gibson's does. The abalone inlays are a detail that make a big difference, I hear only the higher end LP's have them now.
My only nit-picky complaints are that the woodgrain on top is not too well matched up, but it doesn't bother me, and I actually prefer a studio over the flashier flame tops anyway. I also think the plastic trim on the pick guard and around the pickups somehow don't quite match the rest of the guitar. The guitar looks VERY vintage overall, and the plastic trim looks odd, I wouldn't call it "cheap looking," it just looks too clean or something.
I still give it 5 stars and I couldn't be happier!
